During the tour, you will be accommodated at Mirador Amazon Lodge for the first and sixth nights, then you will stay at Manu Rainforest Lodge on the second night, followed by Casa Matsiguenka for the third and fourth nights. On the fifth night, you will stay at Robles Ecological Reserve Tree House.

Casa Matsiguenka lodge is owned and run by two indigenous communities of the tribe Matsiguenka. This lodge has a rustic design with 12 double rooms and provides mosquito nets. Surrounding the lodge are private trails, where Matsiguenka act as local guides. They also have an interpretation house where they produce and sell craftwork.


On this tour, you will travel through the mountains to enter the cloud forest where you do some walks to observe several species of birds, orchids, and maybe monkeys. After spending the night in a private lodge (Mirador Amazon Lodge), on the following day, you will continue traveling four hours by boat to Manu Rainforest Lodge deep in the jungle, visiting hot springs on the way. In the evening, you will do a night walk to observe spiders (tarantulas), insects, frogs, and snakes.

You will continue traveling by boat to the reserved zone (Casa Matsiguenka). The following day you will explore the untouched primary rainforest, visiting the lakes Cocha Salvador and Cocha Otorongo.

The following day you will spend the night in a tree house beside a mammal clay lick to watch out for tapirs, deer, and other animals. The next morning you will explore the rainforest again before going back by boat and bus to Mirador Amazon Lodge.

On the last day, you will return to Cusco by bus.


Day 1: Cusco - Mirador Amazon Lodge

You will leave from Cusco by private bus, first stopping to visit the pre-Inca burial towers of Ninamarca. You will then drive through the mountains, to get to the typical folkloric town of Paucartambo. Here you will take a short walk around the town before carrying on to Tres Cruces, the entrance to the cultural zone of Manu and the cloud forest. From there, you will continue to San Pedro where you will walk for around one hour to observe the national bird of Peru, the cock-of-the-rock, monkeys, and orchids. You will arrive at the private Manu Rainforest Lodge in the evening where you will stay for the night.

Day 2: Mirador Amazon Lodge - Manu Rainforest Lodge

After breakfast, you will continue traveling by private bus to Atalaya. On the way, you will stop to observe a coca plantation and at a viewpoint where you can get a good overview of the jungle and the river. From Atalaya, you will leave by motorized boat to Aguas Calientes, where you can bath in the natural hot springs. During the boat trip, you will see many different kinds of animals, especially birds, and a beautiful landscape.

In the afternoon, you will arrive at Robles Ecological Reserve where you will have a short rest. In the evening, you will leave for a night walk in the jungle to look for spiders, insects, and snakes. You will return to Manu Rainforest Lodge for dinner and spend the night in the beautiful, comfortable lodge.

Day 3: Manu Rainforest Lodge - Casa Matsiguenka

You will leave the lodge very early and continue your journey downriver (Alto Madre de Dios River) to go into the reserved zone on the Manu River. Your first stop there is a national park control point (Puesto de Vigilancia Limonal). Halfway to Casa Matsiguenka lodge, you will do a first short walk in the reserved zone. Along the boat trip, you will observe many different kinds of animals such as capybaras, peccaries, monkeys, lots of birds and caimans, maybe even a jaguar. Late in the afternoon, you will arrive at Casa Matsiguenka lodge where you spend the night. Optional night walk is available there.

Day 4: Casa Matsiguenka lodge (Manu Biosphere Reserve)

In the morning, you will visit Cocha Salvador. From a catamaran, you will watch animals such as herons and spider monkeys and enjoy watching the nearly extinct giant otters fishing. After lunch, you will start your excursion through the virgin jungle to Cocha Otorongo Lake, where there is a 20-meter high observation tower. From this tower, you will have another chance to see giant otters and black caimans.

For the rest of the day, you will explore the jungle looking for more species of monkeys. The guide will also explain the jungle lifestyle, flora and fauna, medical plants, and jungle food. You might also find a group of peccaries. In the evening, you can enjoy the beautiful sunset and return to Casa Matsiguenka lodge, where you spend the night.

Day 5: Casa Matsiguenka lodge - Robles Ecological Reserve Tree House (mammal clay lick)

You will leave Casa Matsiguenka lodge very early to have another opportunity to see a jaguar on your way out of the reserved zone. You might also see tapirs, turtles, and caimans. After a short stop in Boca Manu, a visit to the native community of Diamante is optional. You will continue upriver (Alto Madre de Dios River) to Robles Ecological Reserve.

In the evening, you will walk to the mammal clay lick where you prepare your beds (protected by mosquito nets) in the tree house and wait to see wild pigs and tapirs feeding on the mineral salts. You will stay there the whole night taking shifts to watch for nocturnal animals.

Day 6: Robles Ecological Reserve - Mirador Amazon Lodge

In the morning, you will walk back to Robles Ecological Reserve, exploring this part of the jungle. Again, you might see many different kinds of animals, birds, medicinal plants, and giant trees. After breakfast, you will continue your adventure by boat traveling upriver for several hours to Atalaya, where your private bus will be waiting for you to bring you to Mirador Amazon Lodge for the night. There you will build a fire, relax, and have some drinks and a BBQ.

Day 7: Mirador Amazon Lodge - Cusco

After breakfast, you will return by bus to Cusco via the cloud forest and Paucartambo. You will arrive in Cusco in the early afternoon.
