You come to Bardia for the jungle activities but will find yourself feeling rested and pampered at Rhino Lodge Bardia.


The deluxe room has a single bed (36 x 78) and King-size bed (60 x 78) in every room. Each contains a private bathroom, air-condition, fan, mosquito nets, and a canopy above each bed for extra protection from insects. Also, you will obtain towels, slippers, and mineral water.

Outside, you have a shady veranda with comfortable seats, where you can relax when you do not want to be inside your room. A spacious garden full of trees and sitting huts are also disposable. In all the resort, there is a solid Wi-Fi signal, so you don't have to worry about being connected to the internet.

Village tour

Embark on a village tour to a nearby ethnic Tharu village where you will learn more about the life and lifestyle of the Tharus. The tour includes an elephant breeding center visit and sunset view from the Karnali river bank.

Jeep safari and jungle walk

Travel deep into the jungle in an open-air Jeep where you can see many varieties of animals. During this trip, a naturalist will take you from one part of the national park to another part where the wild animal sightings are more likely to be seen on the day. Your driver will stop the Jeep in several places and you will walk to spot the wild animals going deep to the jungle without the noisy sound. You will climb Machan Tower in the jungle to have a look of the wild animal nearby.

Tiger tracking

If you dream to see a royal Bengal tiger, Bardia National Park is the place to go in Nepal. Bardia National Park is the only place in Nepal in which this jungle king can be encountered on a trek. Tiger tracking is famous in Bardia after The Titanic hero Leonardo Dicaprio encountered a female tiger with her four cubs. A specialist naturalist will focus on the tiger by closely observing its activities smelling its scent, examining its scat, finding its scratch marks on the trees and finding fresh pugmarks on the trail. If you are lucky enough to see one, it will surely be a moment you will remember all your life.

Bird watching

There are over 400 varieties of birds in Bardia National Park, including some that come for the winter or are part of the seasonal migrations from Siberia. Bardia is very popular with bird watchers because of its remoteness as well as the sheer number of birds that can be seen.

Elephant breeding center visit

Rhino Lodge Bardia is located within a short walking distance of the elephant breeding grounds where you can see baby elephants and learn more about this giant, but very gentle creatures of the jungle.


Bardia National Park

Bardia National Park is located in the western lowland and encompasses a total area of 968 square kilometers. The park includes alluvial floodplains created by Karnali River in the west and the pristine ecosystem of Bardia Valley in the northeastern section. The park is reputed for its rich biodiversity. The vegetation here ranges from early successional stage, tall floodplains grassland established on the alluvial floodplain of Karnali, Orai, and Babai river systems, to the climax stage, sal and forest extended on relatively dry flatlands.

The fauna diversity of the park includes 53 species of mammals, including endangered megaherbivores like rhinoceros and elephants, more than 25 species of reptiles, over 400 species of birds, 121 species of fishes, and unknown diversity of mollusks and arthropods. Species conservation in the park has yielded satisfactory results as a number of mammals such as tigers, elephants, spotted deer, hog deer, smabar, swamp deer have made a remarkable comeback.

A narrow strip of buffer zone covering an area of 327 square kilometers adjoins the park in the West and in the South. More than 100,000 people of diverse ethnicity inhabit the buffer zone. Tharus are the indigenous group and comprise above 60% of the total population. Other ethnic groups in the buffer zone include Brahmin / Kshetri, occupational castes, and the people of Mongoloid origin (Magar, Gurung, Tamang, etc.). Agriculture is the main occupation of buffer zone communities.

Things to do (optional)

Rafting in Karnali

This is not white water rafting, but rather a gentle and relaxing float down the Impressive and beautiful Karnali River from the northwestern boundary. During the trip, which lasts all day, your rafting guides will help you to spot many types of bird and other wildlife along the riverbank. Elephant, deer, wild boars and rhinos are often seen drinking at the river and a real highlight of the trip is the chance to see the rare and endangered freshwater dolphins.

You take a hearty packed lunch, which you can eat by the riverbank, whilst enjoying the fresh river breezes and return to the lodge as the sun is trip is highly recommended and provides a real opportunity to enjoy unspoiled nature and see rare wildlife.

Photographic tour

Photography in Bardia National Park is exciting for the traveler as this place is newly awarded in ITB Berling 2019 for increasing the tiger population double. What would you like to capture in your camera? Wild animals or birds, this is one of the best places in Nepal.

Crocodile breeding center

Bardia National Park is home of two types of crocodiles, including the endangered gharial crocodile. This strange looking crocodile has a long, narrow snout studded with sharp teeth. This croc is a fish eater, and the female lays the largest egg of all crocodiles. There, you can see gharial as well as the more common marsh mugger.

How to get there

Recommended Airports

Arrival by airplane

Please book your flight to arrive at Nepalgunj Airport (KEP). Transfers from and to this airport are available for about 65 USD per one Jeep for one way. Upon arrival at Nepalgunj Airport (KEP), you can be met by Rhino Lodge Bardia's representative and driven to the lodge in a private vehicle for a very scenic two-hour drive.

For groups of more than 15 people, Rhino Lodge Bardia can arrange either a direct or connecting flight from any airport in Nepal to Nepalgunj. Airfare one way from Kathmandu To Nepaljung is about 143 USD with Buddha Air, Yeti Airlines, or Shree Airlines. The times of the airlines are usually from 8:00 to 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. daily.

Arrival by bus

You can also catch a bus from Nepalgunj bus station to Thakurdwara, the main village of Bardia National Park. If you are traveling to Bardia from Eastern Nepal, catch a vehicle plying towards Mahendranagar. If you are coming from India via Bandassa on the Indian border, through Mahendranagar, catch a bus plying towards eastern Nepal and get dropped in Amdassa. It takes nine hours to reach Bandassa from Delhi and a further five hours from Mahendranagar to reach Ambassa.
