Program

Day 1: Arrival in Entebbe

Your incredible 12-day journey begins with a warm welcome in Uganda's Entebbe. Upon arrival, you'll be greeted by Rafiki Eco Safaris' representative and transferred to your comfortable accommodations at either Karibu Guesthouse or Cassia Lodge in Entebbe or Kampala.

Day 2: Mabamba Swamp to Lake Mburo National Park

After a delightful breakfast, venture to the Mabamba Swamp's birding site for a chance to spot the captivating shoebill bird, an important sighting for birding enthusiasts. Following your visit to Mabamba, journey to Lake Mburo National Park via the Equator line, a unique geographical point. Settle in for the night at your chosen lodging, which includes options like Rwakobo Rock, Mihingo Lodge, or Mantana Tented Camp.

Day 3: Exploring Lake Mburo National Park

Embark on a game drive after breakfast, where you may encounter graceful impalas, zebras, oribi, elands, and even elusive leopards. Optional activities like nature walks and birding are available for your enjoyment. In the afternoon, embark on a boat ride on Lake Mburo, encountering its diverse wildlife, including hippos and crocodiles. Relax at your lodge before considering an optional evening game drive.

Day 4: Lake Mburo National Park to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

As the sun rises, set out for Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site and home to half of the world's gorilla population. En route, indulge in another game drive within Lake Mburo National Park. Upon arrival in Bwindi, check in to your chosen lodge and immerse yourself in the park's lush surroundings.

Day 5 and 6: Gorilla Tracking and Batwa Community Interaction

After breakfast, embark on a gorilla tracking adventure with a ranger guide, an awe-inspiring experience as you come face-to-face with these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat. Enjoy observing the gorillas for an hour, a memory that will last a lifetime. In the afternoon, take a community walk to the Batwa Village, learning about the indigenous inhabitants of Bwindi's forests.

Day 7 and 8: Tree Climbing Lions and Queen Elizabeth National Park

Today, journey to Queen Elizabeth National Park, encountering tree-climbing lions at Ishasha and relishing the picturesque landscapes of rural Uganda and the Rwenzori Mountains. Embark on game drives and a boat ride within Queen Elizabeth National Park to witness its diverse wildlife, including hippos, crocodiles, and captivating birdlife. Optional activities include night game drives.

Day 9 and 10: Chimp Trekking in Kibale Forest

Travel to Kibale Forest National Park, home to the highest concentration of chimpanzees in East Africa. Engage with the Bigodi community, learn about women's group projects, and embark on birding at Bigodi Swamp. Enjoy a chimp-tracking adventure, observing these playful creatures and encountering other primates like the red colobus and L’Hoest monkeys.

Day 11: Royal Palace and Community Engagement

Explore Fort Portal town, visit the King's palace, and engage with local community projects. Choose to participate in candle-making from bee wax at a honey cooperative group or visit the UNESCO-listed Ruboni Community Camp on the slopes of the Rwenzori Mountains.

Lake Mburo National Park

Lake Mburo National Park is the home of the zebras, impala, and eland. It is also habitat for the elusive bird African finfoot.

Things to do (optional)

A visit to Semuliki National Park

Semuliki is an interesting conservation area, partly forested and partly savannah. On this extension trip, you will visit the Sempaya hot springs and have the chance to boil eggs and go for a nature walk through the forest.

Later on, you will visit Amabere’ganyinamwiru caves. This site has an interesting legendary tale. A guide will tell you about Nyinamwiru a daughter of Bukuku, one of the historical rulers of the Cwezi Dynasty that gave birth to the current Bunyoro and Toro Kingdoms. She was an attractive beautiful girl who declined to marry the man her father had chosen for her.
