Program

Day 1: Nairobi to Maasai Mara

At 8 o'clock, you will be picked up from your Nairobi hotel and commence the drive to Maasai Mara. You will pass via the Great Rift Valley viewpoint, where you will have a stopover of 10 to 15 minutes to view the rift valley. Lunch will be at the camp in Maasai Mara.

In the afternoon, after you check in, depart for a sunset evening game-viewing drive in the Mara Reserve (4:00 to 6:00 p.m.). Return to the camp for a buffet dinner, ending with a good time for resting at Enkajiang Camp, Rhino Tourist Camp, or a similar option.

The tents have toilets, showers, beds, linen, and mosquito nets. Electricity is provided from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. in the evening, and from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. in the morning.

Masai Mara Reserve is the most popular tourism destination in Kenya. It is located in the Great Rift Valley in primarily open grassland. Wildlife is most concentrated on the reserve’s western escarpment. It is regarded as the jewel of Kenya’s wildlife viewing areas.

  • Dinner and overnight at Enkajiang Camp, Rhino Tourist Camp, or similar.

Day 2: Full-day game drive in Masai Mara Reserve

At around 7:00 a.m., after breakfast, you will leave for a full day exploring Masai Mara in search of the Big Five. The annual wildebeest migration alone involves over 1.5 million animals arriving in July and departing in November.

The phenomenal wildebeest migration, which is a spectacular event only seen in Maasai Mara, is considered the seventh wonder of the world.

At midday, you will have a picnic lunch in the park, which is provided by Perfect Wilderness Tours and Safaris. You will visit the site of the yearly wildebeest migration and see the resident crocodiles and hippos located at the banks of the Mara River, then continue with the game drive through the Mara Reserve.

  • Dinner and overnight at Enkajiang Camp, Rhino Tourist Camp, or similar.

Day 3: Depart Maasai Mara to Nakuru

After an early breakfast, depart for your drive to Lake Nakuru with a brief stop at a Maasai village for a cultural encounter. You will learn about the Maasai community and interact with the local people as you make your way out of Maasai Mara.

Thereafter, commence the drive to Nakuru. You will arrive early at the hotel, where you can take some time to relax at the pool, use the Wi-Fi, or take a stroll in the compound.

  • Dinner and overnight at Lanet MatFam Resort, Buraha Zeroni Hotel, or similar.

Day 4: Nakuru to Nairobi

You will have an early breakfast, then check out and depart by 7:00 a.m. straight to the park. It is a small park with magnificent, rare white rhinos, which form part of the Big Five animals. There is also a possibility of seeing the pink flamingos.

The game drive lasts approximately three hours, after which you will depart on a three-hour drive back. Lunch will be along the way at a traveler's motel.

You will be dropped off at your hotel within Nairobi.

Location

This safari trip will take place in Maasai Mara Game Reserve, Kenya. The Maasai Mara is a large game reserve in southwest Kenya. The name is derived from the Maasai people and the Mara River which divides it into eastern and western parts.

The extensive savannah grassland in between the rolling hills hosts a large variety of wild animals. Every year, about 2.5 million wildebeests and hundred of thousands of zebras wander through the Masai Mara between the months of June and October on their Great Migration between the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania and Masai Mara in Kenya. This spectacle has recently been declared the seventh natural world wonder.

Masai Mara is a permanent home to lions, leopards, cheetahs, black rhinos, elephants, buffaloes, hippos, crocodiles, giraffes, antelopes, and around 400 species of birds among many others. Wildebeests traverse its plains during their annual migration.

The landscape has grassy plains and rolling hills and is crossed by the Mara and Talek rivers. The area nearby is dotted with villages (enkangs) of Maasai people. It is named after the Maasai people (the traditional inhabitants of the area) and their description of the area when looked at from afar, “Mara”, which is Maa (Maasai language) for “spotted,” an apt description for the circles of trees, scrub, savanna, and cloud shadows that mark the area.
