Masai Mara Reserve is the most popular tourism destination in Kenya, located in the Great Rift Valley in primarily open grassland. Wildlife is most concentrated on the reserve’s western escarpment. It is regarded as the jewel of Kenya’s wildlife viewing areas.
Maasai Mara National Reserve is an area of preserved savannah wilderness in southwestern Kenya, along the Tanzanian border. Its animals include lions, cheetahs, elephants, zebras, and hippos. Wildebeest traverse its plains during their annual migration. The landscape has grassy plains and rolling hills, and is crossed by the Mara and Talek rivers. The area nearby is dotted with villages (enkangs) of Maasai people.
Samburu is famous for its truly wild semi-arid landscape, and the large concentration of wild animals and bird-life. Together with the adjoining Shaba and Buffalo Springs National Reserves, Samburu is popular for hosting the rare Northern-Kenya animal species (gerenuk, reticulated giraffe, grevy's zebra, beisa oryx, and somali ostrich) which are not found in the other popular parks and reserves in Kenya.
It is also home to all the African big cats (lion, cheetah, and leopard), alongside other big game including elephants, buffaloes, warthogs, hippos, impala, water-buck, and many others.
Samburu is also a renowned bird watching haven, with hundreds of bird species resident here. These include kingfisher, bee-eaters, tawny eagle, guinea-fowl, yellow throated spur-fowl, lilac-breasted roller, red-billed horn bill, secretary bird, verreaux's eagle, superb starling, yellow-billed hornbill and vultures. The unique culture of the Samburu tribe who live in the region is the icing on the cake for the amazing Samburu National Reserve.
