At 08:00, you will be picked up from your hotel in Nairobi and commence the drive to Maasai Mara via the Great Rift Valley viewpoint where you will have a breathtaking view of the floor of the Rift Valley area. Lunch will be a picnic on the way. In the afternoon after you check in, you will depart for a game viewing drive in the Maasai Mara National Reserve. You will return back to the camp for a sumptuous buffet dinner ending with a good time for resting at Lenchada Tourist Camp.
Maasai Mara National Reserve is the most popular tourist destination in Kenya. It is located in the Great Rift Valley area, primarily in open grassland. Wildlife is most concentrated on the reserve’s western escarpment. It is regarded as the jewel of Kenya’s wildlife viewing area. In Maasai Mara, the annual wildebeest’s migration alone involves over one and a half million animals arriving in July and departing in November. During this time, a visitor can hardly miss to spot the Big Five. The phenomenal wildebeest migration, which is a spectacular event only seen in Maasai Mara, is one of the wonders of the world.
You will spend the full day exploring Maasai Mara National Reserve in search of the Big Five. You will have picnic lunches in the reserve as you scale the Mara beauty by sitting on the banks of Mara river.
Optionally, in the evening, you can visit the local Maasai village for a Maasai cultural tour at 10 USD per person where you can learn about the Maasai community and interact with the local Maasai people. An overnight at the Maasai village can be organized upon request. Furthermore, a balloon safari at 400 USD per person can also be organized early morning on this day and then you can proceed with the normal program.
It is in the Mara that perhaps the most spectacular event of the natural world takes place, the great migration. This is the annual migration of millions of wildebeest and zebra from the Serengeti (in Tanzania) in search of water and pasture. Following on their heels are the predators of the savanna which are lions, cheetahs, jackals, hyenas, and vultures.
You will enjoy the last early morning game drive in Maasai Mara National Reserve followed by breakfast. Thereafter, you will commence driving to Nakuru. Upon arrival at 18:00, you will spend the night at the Golden Palace Hotel and have dinner there.
You will have an early breakfast and depart by 07:00 straight to Lake Nakuru National Park. It is a small park with magnificent, rare white rhinos which is a part of the Big Five animals. There is also a possibility to see the pink flamingos here. The game drive will last three hours and after that, you will depart on a three-hour drive back to Nairobi to arrive at around 15:00. Then, you will be dropped to your hotel in Nairobi.
The Maasai Mara National Reserve (also spelled Maasai Mara and known by the locals as Mara) is a large game reserve in south-western Kenya which is effectively the northern continuation of the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania. It is named after the Maasai people (the traditional inhabitants of the area) and their description of the area when looked at from afar, “Mara”, which is Maa (Maasai language) for "spotted". The word is also an apt description for the circles of trees, scrub, savanna, and cloud shadows that mark the area.
It is famous for its exceptional population of big cats, game, and the annual migration of zebra, Thomson’s gazelle, and wildebeest from the Serengeti every year from July to October. This migration is so immense called the great migration.
Lake Nakuru National Park (188 square kilometers / 73 square miles) was created in 1961 around Lake Nakuru near the Nakuru Town. It is best known for its thousands, sometimes millions of pink flamingos nesting along the shores. The surface of the shallow lake is often hardly recognizable due to the continually shifting mass of pink flamingos. The number of pink flamingos on the lake varies with water and food conditions. The best vantage point is from the Baboon Cliff. Also of interest is an area of 188 kilometers (116 miles) around the lake that is fenced off as a sanctuary to protect Rothschild giraffes, black rhinos, and white rhinos.
You will be served two delicious breakfasts, lunches, and dinners as well as bottled water during this safari.
