Okapuka Horse Safaris offer you an unforgettable horse riding safari experience. This is your chance to enjoy the unspoiled corner of Namibia trekking along trails that they have carefully selected to give you breathtaking views of wildlife. During the safari, you will be accommodated in a Park Room at Okapuka Ranch. The thatched Park Rooms overlook the river of the Otjihavera or have a view over the savannah. The rooms are spacious and have an en-suite bathroom (shower, toilet, and washbasin), safe, coffee and tea making facilities, mini-bar, fan, telephone and a terrace.
On this safari, you will be accompanied by an experienced guide and you will ride beautiful Arabian horses through a very varied landscape always on the lookout for the game and enjoy the stunning scenery. During a week’s stay, you will ride for an average of 4 hours per day. The riding can be fairly intensive and you are welcome to take either a morning, afternoon, or day off “out of the saddle” to enjoy the other activities or just recuperate by the pool.
You should have a minimum age of 10 years and be riding fit and strong. For the sake of the horses, Okapuka Horse Safaris have a maximum weight limit of 85 kilograms, 13,5 stone or 187 pounds for the safari. For the endurance and mountain trails, the weight limit is 80 kilograms, 12,8 stone or 176 pounds.
This safari will take place in Windhoek, Namibia. Okapuka is a malaria-free private game reserve of 10,000 hectares. Okapuka Horse Safaris have riding rights throughout the neighboring farms which make the total area 30,000 hectares and the possibilities almost unlimited. The wildlife at Okapuka is outstanding for its variety and quantity. Great effort is put into maintaining Okapuka as one of the best stocked private game reserves in Namibia.
The rides will have you explore the different habitats of the game and the diverse topography. During your stay, you are likely to see white rhino, giraffe, eland, blesbok, gemsbok, kudu, black and blue wildebeest, red hartebeest, waterbuck, steenbok, duiker, ostrich, impala, springbok, black-backed jackal, bat-eared fox, mountain and plains zebra and the rare sable antelope. Sightings of cheetah, leopard, and brown hyena do happen, but you need to be lucky.
The terrain is a combination of savannah and rocky mountains up to 2,000 meters. Some of the rides are designed to explore the mountainous trails where the views are stunning yet the game can be scarce and difficult to spot. Other rides, mainly along game trails on savannah plains which will bring you in close contact with the game.
The full board a la carte meals will be served daily except when having picnic(s) and / or braai(s). Drinks such as sparkling and still water, fruit juice, fizzy drinks, beer, red and white wine during picnic(s), sundowner(s) and / or braai(s) are included. All drinks consumed at the bar and / or restaurant are not included.
