The safari will take place in Mikumi National Park and Selous Game Reserve.

Mikumi National Park

Mikumi National Park is the third largest national park after Serengeti, covering an area of about 3,230 square kilometers. It abuts the northern border of Africa’s biggest game reserve, Selous Game Reserve. The open horizons and abundant wildlife of the Mkata floodplain, the popular counter pierce of Mikumi, draw frequent comparisons to the more famous Serengeti plains.

The Mkata River floodplain supports large population of wildlife, including buffalo, wild dog, eland, elephant, giraffe, hartebeest, zebra, leopard, antelope, greater kudu, and many others. More than 400 bird species have been recorded with such colorful common residents, such as the lilac-breasted roller, yellow-throated longalow, and bateleur eagle. The Mikumi National Park is accessible all year round due to its fine roads, which never get affected by the rains dropping during the wet season.

Selous Game Reserve

Selous is Africa’s largest game reserve with an area of about 55,000 square kilometers. It is bigger than Switzerland and almost twice the size of Belgium.

Its quietness and the rivers and lakes are the lifeblood to a park that hosts phenomenal volumes of game, including the Africa’s largest elephant and wild dog populations, and probably the largest hippo, buffalo, crocodile, and lion prides.

Selous Game Reserve is home to some of Africa’s best boat safaris, walking, and camping trips, making the Selous the park in the country with the greatest diversity of safari activities.
