Since you will be visiting wilderness areas, your accommodation will be mostly camping in safari tents, preferably 3 x 3-meter dome tents at times (2.5 x 2.5 meters' dome tents will be used) on a shared basis (i.e. 2 people per tent).

The tents have built-in ground sheets and window nets. Shower buckets, bush toilets, long drop, and all the necessary camping equipment will be provided. Bedding i.e. bedrolls, mattresses, pillows, sheets, duvet, and blankets will also be made available.

For this trip, you will explore the Khwai area which will accord you the possibility of sporting the otherwise elusive leopard, survey the Savuti which has developed a reputation for being one of the world’s premier predator viewing areas and investigate Chobe National Park with its legendary elephant population.

This safari officially starts in Maun, Botswana and can also start in Kasane. A professional guide and a representative of Moonstroll Vantage Expeditions will meet you upon your arrival in Maun at your hotel / lodge. After a brief introduction, your guide will then give you a full overview of your safari trip.

Day 1: Maun - Mokoro Station - Moremi Game Reserve

  • 1st part: Maun - Mokoro Station
  • 2nd part: Mokoro Station - Moremi Game Reserve South Gate

In the morning of day 1, you will depart from Maun around 06:00 and your adventure takes you first to the southern tip of the Okavango Delta for a 3-hour mokoro (dugout canoe) excursion. During this excursion, you will also be treated to a guided bushwalk on one of the islands and floodplains of the delta.

Then, you will be arriving back at the mokoro station from your excursion and you will enjoy a light breakfast before heading to Moremi Game Reserve.

From the Mokoro Station, you will drive through to reach the southern entrance of Moremi Game Reserve. At Moremi’s south gate, you will have a quick lunch. Thereafter your game drive takes you through the varied landscapes of this wildlife reserve to your campsite in northern / western Moremi.

Day 2: Game driving and boat cruise

This morning, you wake up very early to enjoy breakfast prepared by your bush chef before heading out into the Moremi Game Reserve for your game drive. Your drive will eventually take you to Xakanaxa Lagoon where you will conduct a 2-hour boat cruise in the Okavango Delta’s main channel - Moanachira Channel.

This boat cruise accords you the opportunity to experience the unforgettable beautiful papyrus-fringed waterways, stunning mosaics of channels, lagoons, flooded grasslands, and more of this unique ecosystem.

Day 3: Northern / Western Moremi - Khwai (game drive and transfer to Khwai area)

Early morning of day 3, you move camp. You will game drive and head towards the Khwai area. The Khwai River is actually a superb location for seeing the otherwise elusive leopard and a huge variety of birdlife. You will spend 1 night in Khwai, characterized by early morning and late afternoon game drives, searching for the resident game and birdlife.

Day 4: Khwai - Savuti (early morning game drive and transfer to Savuti)

Savuti is best known for its predators especially lion, cheetah, and hyena. One of its greatest mysteries is the Savuti Channel which has over the past hundred years inexplicably dried up and recommenced its flow several times.

The Savuti Channel carries water away from the Linyanti River and then releases it into a vast swampland called the Savuti Marsh, made up of the rolling savannah. This attracts many different species of antelope, zebra, wildebeest, etc. which in turn attract many predators such as lion, leopard, cheetah, hyena, and wild dogs.

One night is spent in Savuti as you continue your search for wildlife and you will enjoy game drives in the early morning as the sun rises and in the late afternoon as the sun sets.

Day 5: Savuti - Chobe (early morning game drive through Savuti as you head northwards and transfer to Chobe)

Chobe National Park is an essential wildlife destination while on a safari in Botswana. You will spend your remaining one night in Chobe National Park in a tented camp.

In the afternoon of day 5, you will take a boat cruise on the Chobe River. This will give you the chance to experience the animals of Chobe National Park from another vantage point. Here you might get up close and personal with hippos, crocodiles, and a mind-boggling array of water birds. At the same time, you will also be experiencing and marveling at the sunsets in this region as they are always spectacular and amazing.

Day 6: Chobe

The safari officially ends after breakfast today. Your guide will be able to drop you off in Kasane before bidding you farewell. It is very important to note that there are no shopping facilities in the wilderness areas where you will be camping most of the times. Therefore, if you require extra necessities, please inform Moonstroll Vantage Expeditions so that your shopping can be done before your safari starts.

The safari is Botswana-based and will take you to Moremi Game Reserve, Okavango Delta, Khwai, Savuti, and finally Chobe. This safari starts in Maun and ends in Chobe. Alternatively, this safari can start in Kasane, Chobe, and ends in Maun.

Contained within an area of approximately 3900-square kilometers, Moremi is an exceedingly diverse reserve that offers an untouched wildlife experience. Habitats range from floodplains, waterways, lagoons, pools, pans, grasslands and riparian forests, riverine, to mopane woodland. This diversity makes Moremi one of the prime game viewing and bird watching areas of the world.

Khwai, as well as being a predator with a rich area, is one of the best wilderness destinations of Botswana with very high concentrations of game. The Khwai River forms a natural border on the north-eastern side of the world, renowned Moremi Game Reserve.
