Come to Africa and go on a safari trip with Moonstroll Vantage Expeditions! On this 10-day safari, a complete range of land and water activities will combine to give you a fantastic and memorable safari experience. You will experience Botswana’s iconic wilderness destinations from every angle - mokoros (canoes), open-sided 4x4 safari vehicles, and motor boats. This is a great trip for those of you wanting to create lasting memories!
Accommodation upon arrival will be at a comfortable lodge / guesthouse in Maun. The second and third nights will be spent at a wilderness campsite in Moremi. Rest will be at a wilderness campsite in Savuti on the fourth night. A wilderness campsite in Chobe National Park will be your accommodation on the fifth and sixth nights.
The accommodation will be camping in ensuite safari tents on a shared basis (i.e. two people per tent). Therefore, bedding (i.e. bedrolls-mattresses, pillows, sheets, duvet, blankets, etc.) and all the necessary camping equipment (i.e. shower buckets, bush toilets, etc.) will be provided.
You will explore the tranquil, crystal clear waterways and papyrus-fringed channels of the Okavango Delta, as well as Moremi Game Reserve, the game-rich Khwai Concession, Savuti, and the illustrious Chobe River.
A professional guide from Moonstroll Safaris will meet you upon your arrival at Maun Airport. After a brief introduction, you will be transferred to your lodge, where you are going to spend your pre-safari night.
The afternoon of the day of arrival will be left for you to spend at leisure, to go shopping for curios, and also to have the option of taking a scenic flight over the Okavango Delta (at an extra cost).
This activity will offer an aerial view of the Okavango Delta, giving you the opportunity to see its unique water system from a different perspective. It is even possible to spot large game animals such as elephants, hippos, etc. from high above during the flight.
You will be picked up in the morning on this day to start your journey northwards to Moremi Game Reserve for a two-night stay.
Moremi is situated in the central and eastern areas of the Okavango Delta and covers about a third of the total land area of the Okavango Delta. At about 3,900 square kilometers, Moremi as a reserve is unfenced. This allows for free movement of animals within the Delta according to their seasonal migrations.
Moremi boasts of diverse ecosystems ranging from floodplains, lagoons, grasslands, and riverine to mopane woodland. Thus, with such a wide variety of vegetation comes a diverse spectrum of wildlife.
You will enjoy your breakfast at Moremi's south gate. This breakfast typically consists of coffee, tea, juice, cereals, rusks, fruits, etc.
Thereafter, you will enter into game drive mode and spend the day searching for the wide variety of wildlife and birds that this area is famous for before being taken to your camp to spend the night.
This day, you will wake up to enjoy an early breakfast. Shortly after breakfast, you will go for a morning game drive. On this safari drive, you should therefore look out for the large herds of African elephants in the mopane scrub, keep an eye out for the elusive African wild dogs, lions, leopards, etc.
You might also encounter birds of prey on this safari drive such as the mighty martial eagle, tawny eagle, the majestic African fish eagle, and the incredible aviator - the bateleur - as well as many others.
You will return to your camp at around noon for lunch and a much-needed rest. In the afternoon, you will set off once again in the safari vehicle for more birding and game viewing.
Come back to the camp just after sunset to have a shower and thereafter enjoy a campfire-cooked dinner. You will have two nights at a wilderness campsite to marvel at this exceedingly diverse reserve that offers an untouched wildlife experience.
This day, after breakfast, you will take a slow game drive through Moremi Game Reserve - a game drive that will provide farewell to the area’s magnificent landscapes and mammals.
Finally, you will head northeast towards the Khwai Concession for a two-night stay. At about 1,800 square kilometers, the Khwai is situated in the northeastern Okavango next to Moremi. It is a wildlife-prolific and varied ecosystem dominated by a patchwork of lagoons, grasslands, permanent flood plains, and large areas of mopane woodland forests.
Khwai also has a marvelous selection of predators such as lion, leopard, wild dog, cheetah, serval, African wild cat, etc.
In the afternoon, you will go for your game drive and possibly watch the sunset unfold over the Khwai River.
This day, after an early breakfast, you will go for your usual morning game drive. Your journey will follow the Khwai River’s watercourse, weaving from the riverside and floodplains then into the mopane veld and woodlands that make Khwai one of the most scenic areas of the Okavango.
The Khwai area boasts an excellent population of the African elephant, both solitary bulls and breeding herds. The swampy areas are home to red lechwe. Other resident species include the southern giraffe, buffalo, Burchell’s zebra, tsessebe, the greater kudu, impalas, and various other nocturnal species.
Khwai is also one of Botswana’s birding meccas. As such, the raptors and water birds are particularly abundant and make for some great photography.
The highlight of this day is a mokoro excursion along the Khwai River part of the Okavango Delta system. During this mokoro excursion, you should have some great encounters with aquatic birds and several species of mammals.
You will rise very early this morning and greet the fresh African morning with coffee and some light breakfast. Thereafter, you will head out on your last safari drive in the Khwai Concession.
Eventually, you will leave the Khwai Concession and travel northeastwards to Savuti for a two-night stay.
Savuti is best known for its predators, both big cats (lion, leopard, and cheetah), and birds of prey - raptors, vultures, and all manner of birds of prey that soar over Savuti’s landscape in search of food.
Perhaps the strangest phenomenon of all about Savuti is the 100 kilometers of Savuti Channel. At times, it will stop flowing and remain dry for years at a stretch. When the channel recommences its flow, it changes the entire ecosystem, transforming the Savuti Marsh and Mababe Depression into wetlands.
This creates an oasis that provides water for thirsty wildlife herds and acts as a magnet for a profusion of water birds.
You will wake up early in the morning to freshen up with some hot water in the face basin. This will be followed by a light breakfast of some coffee, tea, rusks, cereals, bread, etc.
After breakfast, you'll head out for your morning game drive to explore the Savuti and its marsh. The Savuti Marsh is a vast expanse of grasslands dotted with dead acacia trees, creating an intriguing, almost ghost-like landscape. You will return to camp at around midday for lunch and some siesta time.
Another point of interest in Savuti is the Bushman rock paintings, thought to be well over a thousand years old. These are paintings of giraffes, elephants, and elands. If time permits, you can pay these rock paintings a visit.
In the afternoon, you'll head out again for your afternoon game drive and return to camp just before sunset. Dinner will follow before you turn in for the night to rest or as you hold some discussions about the events of the day around the campfire.
Wake up early for some breakfast and thereafter, leave Savuti on a leisurely game drive and travel northeastwards to a wilderness camp inside Chobe National Park. This wilderness camp will be your home for one night of your safari vacation.
Tucked up in Botswana’s far northeastern border with Namibia, Chobe is one of the great wildlife destinations of Africa. At approximately 11,900 square kilometers, Chobe is made up of rich ecosystems and pristine landscapes consisting of savanna plains, river, swamp, and scrub.
With such varied environments and habitats, Chobe provides a magnificent array of wildlife. It is the ultimate haven for vast herds of elephant - as many as 120,000 of the animals depend on the Chobe River’s life-sustaining waterways when the dry season kicks in.
Other resident game species are large herds of buffalo, zebra, wildebeest, the rare puku, roan, and sable antelopes. These are normally trailed by the notoriously fearless lions of the Chobe, leopard, and cheetah.
Wake up early on this day for your breakfast and thereafter, head into Chobe for your safari drive.
Chobe is one of the best places to see and photograph roan and sable antelopes. In the mid- to late-afternoon, herd after herd of elephants come down to the Chobe River’s banks and each takes its turn to drink the precious water or just swim in the cool river.
Also, the massive herds of African buffalo that inhabit Chobe are constantly flanked by the ever-hungry lions of the Chobe.
This afternoon, you will go for a boat cruise in the Chobe River. This will give you a chance to experience the animals of Chobe from a different perspective. Therefore, you might get up close and personal with hippos, crocodiles, and a mind-boggling array of water birds.
At the end of your Chobe River boat cruise, you will be taken to a lodge in Kasane to freshen up, ready yourself for dinner, and then spend the last night of your safari vacation.
You will leave your lodge first thing in the morning and head out to Chobe National Park for your last safari drive.
Finally, after your morning safari drive in Chobe, you will return to Kasane. On arrival, you will be taken out to lunch at one of the nice restaurants found in Kasane. Your safari will end immediately after your lunch. You will be dropped off at your hotel or to Kasane Airport for your onward travel.
Note that transfers to Victoria Falls can be arranged at an extra cost.
The safari is Botswana-based and will take you to Moremi Game Reserve, Okavango Delta, Khwai, Savuti, and finally, Chobe National Park. It will start in Maun and end in Chobe.
Maun, Botswana’s tourism capital, lies on the southern fringes of the Okavango Delta. Snaking its way through Maun, the Thamalakane River will welcome you as it sets the scene and creates the mood of what lies ahead of your safari trip into Botswana’s pristine wildlife destinations.
Contained within an area of approximately 3,900 square kilometers, Moremi boasts of diverse ecosystems ranging from floodplains, waterways, lagoons, pools, pans, and grasslands, to riparian forests, riverine, and mopane woodland. This diversity makes Moremi one of the prime game viewing and birdwatching areas of the world.
Khwai, being a predator-rich area, is one of the best wilderness destinations of Botswana, with very high concentrations of game. The Khwai River forms a natural border on the northeastern side of the world-renowned Moremi Game Reserve and is actually a superb location for seeing the otherwise elusive leopard and a huge variety of birdlife.
Savuti is best known for its predators, especially lion, cheetah, and hyena. One of its greatest mysteries is the Savuti channel, which has over the past hundred years inexplicably dried up and then recommenced its flow several times.
When the Savuti Channel is flowing, it carries water away from the Linyanti River and then releases it into a vast swampland called the Savuti Marsh, made up of the rolling savannah. This will attract many different species of antelope, zebra, wildebeest, et cetera, which will, in turn, attract many predators such as lion, leopard, cheetah, hyena, and wild dogs.
The Chobe National Park, covering approximately 11,900 square kilometers and encompassing floodplains, swamps, and woodland, supports a diversity and concentration of wildlife unparalleled anywhere else in the country. Thus, Chobe National Park is an essential wildlife destination while on a safari in Botswana.
During this safari, you will be provided with breakfasts, lunches, and dinners. Snacks and drinks (bottled water and soft drinks) will also be provided. It is very important to note that there are no shopping facilities in the wilderness areas where you will be camping most of the times.
Therefore, if you require extra necessities, please inform Moonstroll Vantage Expeditions so that shopping can be done before your safari starts. If you have any special meal requirements, please let them know in advance so that provisions can be sourced well in time and provided accordingly.
Offering an aerial view of the Okavango Delta, this activity will give you the opportunity to see the Okavango Delta’s unique water system from a different perspective. This activity can be arranged for you at an extra cost and can be undertaken on the day of your arrival.
You can take a trip to Victoria Falls for an extra cost.
Another point of interest in Savuti is the Bushman rock paintings, thought to be well over a thousand years old. These are paintings of giraffe, elephant, and eland. If time permits, you can pay these rock paintings a visit.
