Accommodation

During this safari, you will be staying in lodges within or near the national parks / destinations you'll visit.

Program

Day 1: Arrival at Arusha

Meet Migration Venture Africa's safari coordinator at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) or Arusha Airport (ARK) and transfer to Masailand Safari Lodge for briefing for safari and overnight. Migration Venture Africa will check your camping outfit and sleeping bag. You will also have a chance to select you preferred meals during safari.

Day 2: Tarangire National Park

After breakfast, your driver/guide will collect you and your safari will commence. It will take three hours' drive to Tarangire National Park. Tarangire is spectacular in any season and many of the migratory wildlife species can be found at the permanent waters of Tarangire River. Huge herds of wildebeest, zebras, elephants, elands and Oryx gather until the onset of the rain, when they migrate again to good grazing areas. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.

Day 3: Serengeti National Park

Drive to Serengeti National Park via Olduvai Gorge, which takes between three to four hours. Olduvai George is an archaeological site located in the eastern Serengeti plains, where early human fossils were first discovered.

Serengeti National Park has the amazing landscape that earned it the Maasai name Serengeti – Endless Plains. In the evening, enjoy a game drive in the Serengeti. Again this is a great time to view game - particularly the carnivores as this is their favorite time to hunt. Before dark, you shall return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4: Serengeti National Park

After breakfast, venture out to the Serengeti’s watering holes, hippo pools, and other sites of interest in a full-day game drive. At midday, partake in a picnic lunch while enjoying the vastness of the Serengeti with the largest concentration of plain game on earth. In the late evening, return to the lodge for rest, dinner, and overnight stay.

Day 5: Serengeti National Park - Ngorongoro Crater

After breakfast, begin your day with a morning game drive in the Serengeti, and then later in the afternoon drive to Ngorongoro via Olduvai Gorge. Once at the crater’s rim, get some rest and dinner. Overnight at Rhino Lodge.

Day 6: Ngorongoro Crater

After breakfast, drive down into Ngorongoro Crater and enjoy a full day game drive. This is undoubtedly one of the best places to see the rare black rhino in Africa, not to mention the prides of lion and the magnificent black-mane lions. There are lots of colourful flamingos and the variety of water birds.

In the crater you are also likely to see leopards, cheetahs, hyenas, many members of the antelope family, and small mammals of all sorts. In the late afternoon, you will drive onward to Karatu town where you can settle in for dinner and rest at the lodge.

Day 7: Ngorongoro Crater - Lake Eyasi

After a well-prepared breakfast, you will begin your drive to Lake Eyasi. Here you will see a great variety of birdlife along the shore of this beautiful lake, and the location alone makes it a great place to spend a couple of nights. The meadows along the shore are home to a wide variety of wildlife including the elusive leopard, hippos, a variety of monkeys, and most importantly a host of both greater and lesser flamingos.

Several very pleasant private lodges and tented camps are located in the forest clearings by the lake; these provide great accommodation and are made as much as possible from local materials.

Day 8: Lake Manyara National Park - Arusha / Moshi

Early in the morning after breakfast, you will drive from Lake Eyasi to Lake Manyara National Park. This takes approximately two hours before entering the park. Frequently seen in Lake Manyara National Park are zebras, impalas, monkeys, giraffes, buffaloes, hippos, and warthogs among many others. Before dark, you will be driven back to Moshi or Arusha for dinner and overnight stay.

Location

This safari will take you from Arusha to Tarangire National Park, SerengetI National Park, Ngorongoro Crater, Lake Eyasi, and Lake Manayara National Park in Northern Tanzania.

Tanzania

Tanzania is country so wealthy that it would practically take years to document all the resources. Not only is the country proud to bear witness to the highest and largest free standing mountain in the world but also to the rich and diverse wildlife concentrations, mineral, and other resources available. If Africa’s tourism opportunities were to be summarized by one single country, that country would be Tanzania.

Wildlife of Tanzania

The wildlife of Tanzania refers to the fauna of Tanzania. Tanzania contains some 20 percent of the species of Africa’s large mammal population, found across its reserves, conservation areas, marine parks, and 17 national parks, spread over an area of more than 42,000 square kilometres (16,000 square miles) and forming approximately 38 percent of the country’s territory.

Wildlife resources of Tanzania are described as “without parallel in Africa” and “the prime game viewing country”. Serengeti National Park, the country’s second largest national park area at 14,763 square kilometres (5,700 square miles), is located in northern Tanzania and is famous for its extensive migratory herds of wildebeests and zebra while also having the reputation as one of the great natural wonders of the world.

The Ngorongoro Conservation Area, established in 1959, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and inhabited by the Maasai people. Its Ngorongoro Crater is the largest intact caldera in the world.

The national parks are also part of the wetlands of Tanzania. The wild animals tend to be closer to the wetlands, particularly the water loving species such as the hippopotamus, waterbuck, common warthog, elephant, crocodile, sitatunga as well as water birds such as flamingoes and ducks.

Since the colonial era, wildlife conservation in Tanzania has been the prerogative of the government. Under this structure, the use of wildlife resources by local communities had always been restrictive, causing increased rural poverty and poaching.

In recent years, the Tanzania National Parks Authority (TANAPA) has initiated corrective actions to involve the local community in conservation efforts, which is aimed at contribution to local economies by way of equitable benefits sharing.

Food

Your daily breakfast, lunch, dinner, and drinking water are included in the price.

If you eat every meal you are offered, anywhere in the tropics, you will undoubtedly become ill. Be selective. Possible disease hazards range from minor bouts of travelers’ diarrhea to dysentery and more serious parasitic diseases that may ruin your trip, so precautions are worthwhile. Always choose food that has been freshly and thoroughly cooked, and is served hot.

Avoid buffet food, or anything that has been re-heated or left exposed to flies. Avoid seafood. Raw fruit and vegetables tend to be very difficult to sterilize: don’t eat them unless they have been carefully and thoroughly washed in clean water, or are easy to cut open or peel without contaminating the flesh. In the tropics, the easiest and safest fruits are bananas and papayas.

Do not be afraid to reject food you consider unsafe, to ask for something to be prepared specially, or to skip a meal.
