During the safari, you will stay one night at Nxaraga Lagoon Camp and two nights at Xaxaba Campsite. The campsite is a wilderness area with no boundaries between the campsites and the park, allowing wildlife to move between the woodlands. The staff will provide you comfortable tents. Toilets will be set over a dugout or pit latrine for the bush toilet.

A comfortable toilet seat and towel will be provided. You will stay in a 3 meters x 3 meters tent with a comfortable bedroll and linen on stretchers. The tent includes a bedside table and a solar powered lantern. You will find an attached enclosure at the back of each tent for your shower and toilet.

Day 1

You will be picked up by a representative at Maun Airport (MUB) and transferred to your hotel or lodge.

Day 2

Depart from Maun 9:00 a.m. by motor boat, first on the Thamalakane River then up the Boro River. After the first 45 minutes passing through a rural area, you will then cross the “buffalo fence” and enter the wildlife area of Okavango Delta. The next few hours are spent game and bird watching while navigating the reed channels of the southern Okavango on your way up to Chief's Island.

A light lunch of cold meats and salads will be served en-route. You will arrive at the Nxaraga Lagoon camp at about 3:00 p.m., settle in and take a rest in the shade for a couple of hours. At about 5:00 p.m., depart on foot with a guide for a short one hour game walk around Nxaraga Island to stretch your legs. Arrive back before sunset and enjoy views of hippos from the boat in the middle of Nxaraga Lagoon.

You will return to camp shortly before dark to a warmed bucket shower and a hearty campfire cooked dinner. Retire at your leisure to your tent to fall asleep to the sounds of the Okavango.

Day 3

Wake up call at 5:30 a.m. for anyone wanting to go on an early morning walk. Coffee, tea, and rusks will be served for a little sustenance before the walk. Depart on foot at 6:00 a.m. with a guide for a three-hour game walk. Other than plains game, there is a very real chance to spot the elusive leopard and bushbuck in the forests on the fringes of Nxaraga Island. Arrive back from your game walk to a full English breakfast.

Depart from Nxaraga at around midday and stop for a quick splash in the shallows near a sandbank to cool off. Continue upstream for a couple of hours game viewing on the way. On this stretch of the river, there is a good chance to find elephants playing in the river to ease the midday heat. A light snack lunch will be served en-route. Arrive at Xaxaba Campsite at about 3:00 p.m., settle in and relax for a couple of hours.

The campsite is one of the few places that Chief's Island actually borders on the mainstream of the Boro river even at high water so the game walking possibilities are endless. At about 5:00 p.m., depart on foot for a one and a half hour game walk. Arrive back shortly before dark to a warmed bucket shower and a hearty campfire cooked dinner. Retire at your leisure to your tent to fall asleep to the sounds of the Okavango, most probably including lions on Chief's Island.

Day 4

Wake up call is at 6:00 a.m., coffee, tea, and rusks will be served for anyone wanting something small before the mokoro trip. At 7:00 a.m., depart for a short boat ride to Xaxaba Village to meet your mokoro polers. Depart with guides in a mokoro (traditional canoes) for three hours cruising down uncharted side channels that are not navigable by motorboats and walking on less accessible islands. Arrive back at about 11:00 a.m. to a full cooked brunch.

Leave at about 1:00 p.m. to go upstream past Jugu-Jugu island to spend the afternoon game and bird viewing from the boat. This is one of the most spectacular settings that the Okavango Delta has to offer. The wide open plains of this area are home to a large number of red lechwe, a semi aquatic antelope, lots of crocodiles and birds. Arrive back shortly before dark to a warmed bucket shower and a hearty campfire cooked dinner. Retire at your leisure to your tent.

Day 5

Wake up call is at 5:30 a.m. for anyone wanting to go on an early morning walk. Coffee, tea, and rusks will be served for a little sustenance before the walk. At 6:00 a.m., depart on foot with a guide for a two-hour game walk. Arrive back from your game walk to a full English breakfast. Depart at 10:00 a.m. for a leisurely seven-hour boat trip back to Maun with a light lunch served en-route. For the return trip, you will use alternative channels. Arrive back in Maun at about 5:00 p.m.
