On this safari, you will enjoy tours and guided game drives in several landmarks of Madagascar. The guides are Tody, Tahiana, Hery, and Désiré. The guides have been living and guiding on the island for more than 20 years, and are experts on Madagascar animals and wildlife tours, adventure tours, overland safaris, and holidays in Madagascar.
After arriving at Ivato International Airport (TNR), you will be greeted by Madagascar Travel and Tours' staff. Then, you will go and stay at your hotel in Antananarivo.
After enjoying breakfast at the hotel, you will meet your driver-guide and go to to the north part of the capital to Ambohimanga or Blue Hill, where the old summer palace of the last monarch is settled. This one-of-a-kind cultural heritage site is considered to be the spot of unification of the Imerina kingdom.
You will then have a lunch in a restaurant on the overlook spot and return to the center of Antananarivo in the afternoon. After that, you will visit Rova of Antananarivo (the Queen's Palace) and return to the hotel at the end of the afternoon.
After having breakfast at the hotel, you will go to Route Nationale 7. The first stop where you spend the night is the valley town of Antsirabe. You will then stop en route in small towns and highlands villages such as Ambatolampy, the third highest point of the island, which is up in the great Ankaratra hills. After having lunch, you will continue to Antsirabe in the afternoon and have a short sightseeing tour by cars or by rickshaws. After that, you will be transferred to your hotel.
The day will be fully dedicated to visiting Antsirabe or the "Vichy Malagasy". This modest-sized scenic cultural town is known for its thermal springs. You will then meet with your local guide and be transferred by cars to the trailhead for trekking through the countryside of Antsirabe. After that, you will walk high through rice fields, encounter peasants and see the locals' daily work and life. After having a lunch, you will go to Tritriva and Andraikiba crater lakes to hear the fascinating history about them.
After having breakfast at the hotel, you will go to Ranomafana rainforest, situated in the south‐eastern highlands, and stop in Ambositra, which is noted primarily for the master woodcarvers and furniture manufacturing. In Ranomafana, there are wildlife everywhere and endemic plants in its immense emerald misty tree canopy, stretching over miles like a green ocean.
In the evening, you will make a night walk along the national park to meet some nocturnal species of fauna such as the Microcebus or lemur mouse (the tiniest primate) and also the biggest carnivore in Madagascar, the Fosa or Cryptoprocta Ferox. These are just a few of the famous inhabitants of thousands of unique birds and plants that call Ramanofana rainforest home. There are also possibilities of other visits depending on the timing including to the park museum and education center. You can also visit the thermal pool if it is open.
After having breakfast at the hotel, you will be transferred by cars to Ranomafana National Park. The national park is characterized by its unmistakably spectacular rain forest, lying at an altitude of 800 to 1200 meters. It was created in 1990; thanks to the discovery in 1986 of the “golden bamboo lemur” (Hapalemur Aureus). This particular and amazing species of lemur has strange eating habits and can’t be seen anywhere else. Apart from this, you will hunt through the woods in a search of other species such as the red‐fronted brown lemur, red‐bellied lemur, and the shy gray bamboo lemur.
Other frequently-seen specials in the national park are the nationally rare brown mesite, the lovely blue coua, grey‐crowned tetraka, the peculiar velvet asity, and the diminutive common sunbird‐asity. Ranomafana is a holy grail of herpetology as well, with a variety of chameleons, geckoes, skinks, snakes, and frogs being spotted in the humid rainforest. The floral diversity is bewildering, with numerous species of palm, bamboo, and orchid thriving in the sea of green.
After having a lunch, you will go to Ambalavao by passing through Fianarantsoa, the capital of the Betsileo tribe. You will visit the old city of Fianarantsoa (classified by UNESCO). You will keep on driving to reach the small town of Ambalavao which is renowned as the town of wine lands. You can also find the biggest open market of Zebu (the Malagasy species of cattle) every Wednesday. After arriving in Ambalavao, you will be transferred straight to your hotel.
After having breakfast at the hotel, you will start the day with a walk in Anja Community Reserve. It is owned by the villagers and benefits the local community. The countless cute ringtail lemurs that are extremely friendly and known to even hang out with the guests can also be found.
You can also find and approach easily the famous "Maki" or Lemur Catta, the emblem of Madagascar. Maki is characterized by its ringed tail and appearance. After the visit, you will go to Ranohira in the afternoon.
You will have a full day to visit Isalo National Park, the coolest geology of the island. The ruiniform rocks which were wildly carved by the wind and the rain give Isalo strange ghostly shapes as if it is from another planet.
A lot of tours are proposed depending on your physical capacity and curiosity on foot too, but on this day, Isalo is your playground. You will enjoy a picnic lunch inside the park. for you. You can also enjoy a beautiful sunset during an aperitif. After that, you will back to the hotel and stay overnight there.
You will leave Ranohira and pass by the new village of Ilakaka which has an experienced rapid demographic increase because of the existence of sapphire mines and other mining exploration.
On the route, you will see baobabs and the funerary art of the southern ethnicities, represented in typical tombs (“fasambezo”,) encircled by erotic funerary carvings, to express life and fertility of the deceased. Take the sandy track to Sarodrano to see the mangroves and some marvelous coral rag scrub habitat with large and bloated Moringa trees. After that, you will drive back to your hotel and stay overnight there.
After having breakfast at the hotel, you will enjoy a sightseeing city tour of Toliara, the capital of Vezo Tribe. Then, take the track to join Ifaty, a fishermens village which is scattered with the famous Madagascar baobabs standing proud like alien monoliths guarding the coastline.
On the route, you will visit the baobab forest where you can find different kinds of endemic plants, especially those which are typical to south region. You can also observe several other types of baobab such as the Reniala one.
After going back to the hotel, you will spend the remaining time of the day at leisure. After your installation at the hotel, Madagascar Travel and Tours' staff (driver-guide) will leave you and start his way back to Tana the day after.
In Ifaty, you will spend the day at leisure.
You will be transferred to Toliara Airport and fly to Tana. You will be welcomed by Madagascar Travel and Tours' staff, after which you will have a car at your disposal for a last visit of Tana and any shopping for buying souvenirs. In the evening, you will return to the airport for your flight departure.
This safari will take place in several landmarks of Madagascar, including Antananarivo, Ambohimanga, Rova of Antananarivo, Antsirabe, Ambatolampy, Lake Tritriva, Lake Andraikiba, Ambositra, Ranomafana National Park, Ambalavao, Fianarantsoa, Anja Community Reserve, Ranohira, Isalo National Park, Toliara, and Ifaty.
