The guided holiday of the northern region of Ghana has rich cultural and historical sites coupled with friendly people who are always willing to share with you their lives and history of their community. You will explore the vast savannah landscape, culture, and wildlife, and enjoy birdwatching, hiking, and many more interesting activities. You will also visit eco-destinations where life is still very close to nature. You will have photo opportunities during sightings of wildlife animals like the African elephants, antelopes, hippopotamus, and crocodiles spread over the duration of the program.
During this tour, you will stay in various accommodations across Ghana. AC will be available.
Upon arrival, have a city tour of Tamale, visit the Tamale central market, the central mosque, and the leather processing site.
You will depart to Tongo to visit the shrine which is believed to give people good fortune and power. You will view the unique architecture of the region, the dramatic granite rock formations, and natural caves. Also visit the Bolgatanga local market for further interaction with the people.
You will drive straight on the 34-kilometer road to Sirigu. Sirigu is known throughout Ghanaian history for its pottery, basket weaving, and unique symbolic wall decorations. You will get a guided tour of traditional homes belonging to members of Sirigu Women Organisation for Pottery and Art (SWOPA). You will also have the opportunity to meet with (SWOPA) women at the gallery. After Sirigu, you will depart to Paga, where crocodiles are part of the daily living of the people.
You are free to spend the day in Bolgatanga.
You will head towards Tumu. You will stop over at Navrongo after about 30 kilometers drive. You will visit the Catholic minor basilica, the first Catholic church building in northern Ghana since 1903.
You will depart very early to begin the day’s tour. After about 32 kilometers on the ‘red dusty road’, you will stop at Gwollu to see the slaves walls built in the 18th century by the chief of the area. Gwollu is also the home of Ghana’s third President.
Wechiau Community Hippo Sanctuary is arguably one of the best wildlife sites in Ghana. While at the sanctuary, you will visit the Wechiau Community Hippo Sanctuary where you can see a white huge skull of a hippopotamus.
You will depart after breakfast to Mole National Park. You will see elephants and baboons for use plus other smaller animals such as dulcimers. There is an Italian-funded introduction of lions that you can perhaps see if you are lucky.
You will depart at around 08:00 driving about ten minutes to Mognori Eco-Village for a two-hour village walk and drumming and dancing and two hours of canoe safari.
Early in the morning at 07:00, you will take a two-hour walking safari. Have breakfast and then depart from Mole National Park to Larabanga to see the mosque.
You will have the option to stay in the hotel and rest or go out to do last-minute shopping of gifts for friends and families or also have a short city tour of Accra.
Today based on your check-in time and departure, you will check out of your hotel and be dropped at the airport.
This tour will take place in Ghana, taking you to Accra, Tamale, Tongo, Bolgatanga, Sirigu, Paga, Navrongo, Tumu, Gwollu Slave-Trader Defence Wall, Wa, Wechiau Community Hippo Sanctuary, Mole National Park, Mognori Eco Village, and Larabanga.
You will also experience the beauty of the extensive savannah, unexplored landscapes, opportunity to participate and share the traditions, visit sacred grooves, ancestral shrines of the Gonja, Kassena, Frafra, and Dagoba’s.
During this tour, you will be served breakfast at your accommodations and 11 lunches. There will also be a complimentary bottled water per day.
During free days, you have the option to do some gift-shopping or tour around Bolgatanga and Accra.
Please book your flight to arrive at Kotoka International Airport (ACC). Transfer from and to the airport is included. M & J Travel and Tours will pick you up from the airport.
