Seronera Campsite

One of the most frequented public campsites in the Seronera area is located a few kilometres east of the tourist information centre. Although most of the campsites in the area are similar, it is one of few that are on level ground and well sheltered from winds, meaning fewer cold nights.

It is a tents-only camp with the only facilities provided being separate kitchen and dining areas, a water supply, along with modern toilets and bathrooms - with a separate side for men and women.

Ngorongoro Simba Campsite

One of the public campsites is inside the Ngorongoro conservation area, which is located on the rim of the Ngorongoro crater. It is the largest and most frequently used in the area, due to its proximity to the Loduare gate where most tourists come from, and the crater.

The name ‘public’ refers to the fact that more than one unrelated person or group can use it at the same time, no pre-booking is required, and there are facilities available such as a kitchen, toilets and security. On the other hand, private campsites are exclusive.

Program

Day 1: Arusha to Tarangire National Park

LEM Carnivores Tours will collect you from your hotel and followed by a 2 to 3-hour drive. You will arrive at Tarangire National Park. In this region in Tanzania, Hemmingway often went on big game hunting safaris. After the formation of the national parks in 1970, they turned the seasonal marshes and the endless savannah that one sees today into profitable hunting grounds. Today, however, cameras thankfully have replaced the elephant guns.

The Tarangire National Park has the highest density of elephants in northern Tanzania and you can view these animals all year round in which the herds often can reach an impressive number of 300 animals. The Tarangire River has water all year round and during the dry season, between July and October, many animals from the surrounding areas come to the river for drinking. If you visit the park during the dry season, you will witness an unforgettable natural wonder as you can observe wonderful creatures such as lions, giraffes, wildebeests, and zebras.

Day 2: Lake Manyara National Park

In the early morning, LEM Carnivores Tours will collect you from your camp and drive you to Lake Manyara National Park. The park encompasses the northwest bank and part of the alkaline Lake Manyara which rests itself in the Great Rift Valley. The park is perhaps best known for its flamingos, pelicans, and cormorants but it is also the home to a few hundred other species of birds. It is, therefore, a paradise for ornithologists.

Next to a great variety of birds, the "big game" can also be seen in which elephants can often be spotted in the wooded regions along with the tree-climbing lions. Indeed, it was thought for a long time that this spot is the only place where lions can be found with this atypical behavior of climbing trees. Baboons and guenons are also found among the forested areas and in the more open spaces, giraffes nibble at the fresh leaves while the various types of antelopes common to the region browse for tasty shoots.

Day 3: Serengeti National Park

Covering an area of 14,763 square kilometers, Serengeti National Park is the largest national park in Tanzania. The park is located some 320 kilometers to the northwest of Arusha, lying on a high plateau between the Ngorongoro highlands and the Kenya / Tanzania border, and extending almost to Lake Victoria to the west. Aptly named "endless plains" by the Maasai people, you will immediately experience this vastness as you enter the southeastern plains of the park from Ngorongoro.

Declared a protected area in 1921 and gazetted as a national park in 1951, Serengeti is the oldest national park in Tanzania and undoubtedly one of the most famous wildlife sanctuaries in the world. The principal features of the Serengeti are the short and long grass plains in the south and east, the acacia savannah in the central areas, the hilly and densely wooded areas in the north, and the extensive woodland in the west.

Day 4: Ngorongoro Conservation Area

Ngorongoro Crater is the biggest unbroken caldera on the globe and has been described among the natural great wonders on the planet. On the other hand, two-thirds of Lake Manyara National Park is covered by water and the other third is dry land that supports numerous wildlife within that small expanse. In the morning, move down into the 2,000-feet giant caldera. This amazing natural amphitheater houses the biggest number of animals in Africa.

There are prides of lions, black rhinos, as well as elephants sharing this land with the local Maasai tribesmen. Because the grass is short, game viewing is very easy and animals can be approached very closely. You will spend the morning on the crater floor observing the wildlife.

Day 5: End of the tour

Today, LEM Carnivores Tours will return you back to the Arusha City center.

Note:

Please note that this safari can also be booked with an option to fly back to Arusha on your last day. You might want to consider this option if you need to fly out of Arusha. If you select a "flyback" option for this safari, you will stay at different lodges that are of comparable standards but you will follow the same circuit as described above, with the difference being that your safari ends in the Serengeti from where your flight will depart.

Location

This safari will take place in Tanzania. From Arusha, you will head for Tarangire National Park, Lake Manyara National Park, Serengeti National Park, and Ngorongoro Conservation Area. All the parks have a range of types and styles of safari accommodation to suit every traveler. Some of the best camps and lodges are fabulous destinations in their own right, almost as interesting as the wildlife around them.
