During this safari, you will be staying in Ku Sungula Safari Lodge. Ku Sungula Safari Lodge experiences the wild heart of Africa’s bushveld with a touch of luxury. Ku Sungula Safari Lodge is a Greater Kruger Park safari lodge which exudes the romance and beauty of a bygone age whilst offering everyday comfort and convenience. This Africa safari lodge has multiple rondavels which blend in with the charm and serenity of the surrounding bush. The interior of the rondavels feels luxurious and is fully safari styled.

Double beds with classically draped mosquito nets grace every room. All of the rondavels have an en-suite bathroom and air conditioning. A private terrace is placed at the front of your Africa safari lodge. One of the rondavels is wheelchair accessible and has modifications in the bathroom to make it suitable for disabled guests. Besides the rondavels, the lodge has a stunning terrace, a pool, and a campfire site. Free Wi-Fi is offered.


Day 1 - arrival

You will check in at the lodge from 1:00 p.m. Your lunch will be served between 1:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. to enjoy. Between 4:00 p.m. and 4:30 p.m., the qualified guide will take you along the winding paths of the reserve in an open safari vehicle for a three-hour drive searching for animals. If necessary, he will go off road to take you close to animals. At the sunset, you will stop for a drink and snack while you are watching the sun going down. When it is getting dark, chefs will serve you a delicious dinner under the stars.

Day 2 - full day game drive in Kruger

After a night with the sounds of the bush, you will get up early. A coffee or tea and a snack will be waiting for you before the guide takes you to the Kruger National Park in an open safari vehicle. You will enter the park at Orpen gate and stop at a picnic site for your packed breakfast and around noon for your lunch. The guide will take you along nice routes to look for animals and share his knowledge of the bush with you. At the end of the day, you will return to the lodge where your chef will serve a delicious meal again.

Day 3 - bush walk and boat trip

You will greet the new day in the bush and explore the fascinating African nature by foot, accompanied by a qualified and armed guide. On the walk, you will learn about tracks, plants, trees and birds, and much more. After the breakfast and early afternoon, you will leave for an unforgettable boat trip on the magnificent Olifants River, one of the largest rivers of the Kruger National Park. Back at the lodge, chefs will serve your dinner in your Boma.

Day 4

In the early morning, your experienced guide will take you out on a morning game drive. You will stop and enjoy a cup of coffee and see the sunrise. After a delicious breakfast, it is time to say goodbye and you will leave to your next destination.

Things to do (optional)

Hoedspruit endangered species center

You can avail a tour at the Hoedspruit Endangered Species Center which focuses on the conservation of rare, vulnerable, or endangered animals. Cheetah conservation is one of their core disciplines.

Horseback safari

Horse trails are offered and welcome beginner and advanced riders. You will leave the stables and ride into the wildlife estate for a unique safari. In the one-hour tour trial, you will explore the small winding paths in the tranquility of the surrounding bush. You will encounter various plains game and much more.

Hot air balloon flight

You will experience the magic of floating over the scenic Lowveld in a hot air balloon at sunrise. In the hour-long flight above the Blyde River area just west of Hoedspruit, you can enjoy the beautiful views. You can come aboard for the experience of a lifetime.

Mariepskop and Blyde River pick-nick spot

You will discover the places where most tourists do not come. Ku Sungula Safari Lodge can take you on a trip to the Mariepskop, the highest mountain in the area with a height of 1944 meters above the sea-level. The Mariepskop can only be reached in a four-by-four vehicle. After this stunning view, you will know a secluded pick-nick spot at the Blyde River where you can spend a wonderful day with a nice pick-nick and swim in the river.

Microlight flight

This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that you will not easily forget. The flights above big five areas around Hoedspruit and the Klaserie Nature Reserve will give you a birds-eye view of the bush. A 30-minute flight will take you over the areas and see from the air all the beauty that nature holds from the sky.


Moholoholo situated in the shadow of the majestic Mariepskop, the unique conservancy is home to many wild animals. Whenever possible, rehabilitated birds and animals are returned to the wild and those that are not so fortunate due to the nature and extent of their injuries are used to educate the many people who visit each year.

Panorama route

You will discover the beauty of the scenic panorama route with its magnificent views and waterfalls. From the lodge, you can do a day trip to explore this route through the Klein Drakensberg Mountains. You will see God’s window, the tree rondavels, Bourkes luck potholes, Mac Mac Falls, and much more.

How to get there

Recommended Airports

Driving directions from Johannesburg

  • From Johannesburg take the N12 to eMalahleni (Witbank), here it becomes the N4.
  • Follow the N4 till Belfast.
  • At Belfast take the R540 towards Dulstroom and Lydenburg.
  • In Lydenburg follow the R36 leading to Ohrigstad.
  • From Ohrigstad take the R527 to Hoedspruit.
  • In Hoedspruit follow the road to a 4 way stop, where you turn left on to the R40 to Phalaborwa. After 16 kilometers you will see the sign "Balule, Olifants West Gate", you turn right here and enter the reserve.
  • Inside the reserve turn left onto Maroela Road. Follow this road, first alongside the fence then turning right into the reserve. *After about 4 kilometers you are at a crossing where you turn right into Sable Road.
  • After 1 kilometer you will see the Ku Sungula sign on your right hand side.

Arrival by airplane

Please book your flight to arrive at Air Force Base Hoedspruit (HDS) or Hendrik Van Eck Airport (PHW).

Cancellation Policy

  • A reservation requires a deposit of 50% of the total price.
  • The deposit is non-refundable, if the booking is cancelled.
