Check-out Time:

During this safari, you will be staying in an ensuite chalet at Skukuza Rest Camp. Skukuza Camp is the capital of Kruger National Park. It is the biggest camp and includes facilities such as a shop, ATM, internet cafe, restaurant, library, fuel station, and more.

Activities, attractions, and facilities are diverse, as are the animals and plants found both within Skukuza Rest Camp and the surrounding area. Skukuza Camp is an excellent rest camp from which to pursue the big five and birds in the vicinity. Lions are frequently spotted along this route. At night, look for the fruit bat that hangs under the eaves of the shop, and the thick-tailed bush baby climbing the trees in search of gum.

Day 1 - Johannesburg to the Kruger Park

You will leave on your Kruger Park Safari from Johannesburg in the early morning to allow for various collection points. The route to your African Safari takes you through the Highveld with its wide open spaces, down the escarpment and through the scenic Lowveld area. En-route to the Kruger National Park and Skukuza Camp, you will stop for lunch (own expense).

You will go out on your first game drive (SANParks Sunset Drive) after settling into your accommodation. A sunset drive affords you the opportunity to see nocturnal African Wildlife. The Kruger Park’s rangers are allowed to return after the normal gate closing times. Note that this is not a private game drive and that other guests may be joining you on this drive.

A three course dinner is included and will be served al fresco at the private camp within Skukuza. Wine is served with dinner, but guests are welcome to bring along additional or alternative drinks which can be purchased at the Kruger Park shop.

Day 2 to 3 - Morning and afternoon safari drives

Safaris are all about early mornings, getting out there, and seeing animals! The time you go on your game drive varies according to the seasons and camp gate opening times. You will have tea or coffee with muffins and fruit before departing on the game drive, which will take approximately three to four hours. Your guide has an intimate knowledge of the park, which contributes a great deal towards brilliant sightings!

On returning to Skukuza, brunch will be ready at the camp. You will then have time to enjoy a swim, visit the Skukuza museum, visit the park shop which includes African curios, general food items and drinks, take a walk around the camp, or simply relax at the viewing platform in front of the restaurant, which overlooks the Sabie River. Be sure to bring your binoculars, Skukuza Rest Camp is also a bird watcher’s paradise!

After a siesta, you will set off on the afternoon Kruger Park game drive. All game drives are conducted in specially adapted 4x4 open game drive vehicles to allow the guests the best possible vantage point. You will share African safari stories at the campfire under the stars after a scrumptious dinner served at the camp.

Day 4 - Kruger Park to Johannesburg

The final day of your Kruger Park Safari will be your last chance to see the Big Five animals that have eluded you thus far. After breakfast, you will return to Johannesburg. The drive back takes at least six hours and guests are advised to sleep over in Johannesburg on this night.
