During this safari, you will be staying at Sabi Sand luxury mid-range tented camp or lodge located inside Sabi Sand, South Africa (for the first night).

From the second night onward, you will be staying at one of the rest camps inside the Kruger National Park during this safari. Your chalet with en-suite/private bathroom is equipped with an air conditioner, comfortable beds with linen as well as towels, electric outlet, and light.

The Rest Camp has a shop, restaurant, a swimming pool, as well as electric fence around it. This safari uses public facilities, however is an intimate and rustic experience in the comfortable chalet and friendly host (game ranger). You will be on safari with just a few other travellers (maximum 10 people).

Program

Day 1: Johannesburg to Sabi Sand

Please note that the night you will sleep in Sabi Sand will varies according to lodge availability.

Lodge options will range between Tydon Safari/Bush Camp, Umkumbe Safari Lodge, Nkorho Bush Lodge, Elephant Plains Game Lodge, Idube Game Lodge, Arathusa Safari Lodge, Inyati Game Lodge or Notten’s Bush Camp depending on availability.

Start the day early on this intimate small group safari (less than 10 people) from booked accommodations in Johannesburg (the arranged professional pick-up driver will take guests to the shuttle pick-up point). This is at an additional charge.

The shuttle from Johannesburg to Kruger Park leaves at 6:45 am from the OR Tambo bus terminal behind the Intercontinental Hotel (at an additional charge).

Alternatively, we do collect from Nelspruit airport at 13:15 pm (additional charge) and Skukuza Airport (ZAR 700 at any time).

This provides flexibility to get to the safari.

A scenic drive with fantastic photographic opportunities takes us though the escarpment and the lowveld to the Kruger National Park (when taking the shuttle service from Johannesburg). We advise guests to buy take-out meals at the standard road stop (for their own account).

You will be transferred to your exclusive Sabi Sand Lodge.

Throughout the day, it’s likely you will see wildlife around the lodge – nyala antelope and vervet monkeys are frequent visitors, though seeing some of the Big Five is also not uncommon. You are welcome to relax in your room or at the pool. You could also opt for an experience an African Spa Treatment, imagine doing this while viewing Elephants at a distance.

The afternoon drive extends into the evening and you will be spoiled when stopping to enjoy some sun-downer refreshments.

Your guide will assist with a spotlight so that you may view the African Wildlife during the night activities.

Meals are an extraordinary culinary experience where Traditional African Cuisine fuse effortlessly with Modern Trends. Vegetarians and other dietary requirements also are specially catered for.

Overnight at the Sabi Sand Luxury Lodge.

Day 2: Sabi Sand and Kruger Activities

The day starts with an early wake-up call between 5h00 and 5h30. Tea, coffee and muffins are enjoyed before leaving at first light. While seeing big game is always breathtakingly impressive, there are many other species as well as birds. Halfway through the Sabi Sand game drive, there’s a stop for hot drinks and snacks, before returning to the lodge at around 9 am for a full breakfast.

Be transferred back to Kruger.

Your afternoon Kruger Game Drive starts between 14:00 and 15:00 pm (depending on season).

Animal sightings are not guaranteed, however the chances to spot all of the big 5 on our safaris is very good!

Delicious dinner (catering for various diets) is included after the afternoon game drive.

Exchange stories of Africa and listen to the sounds of the immense wilderness around you.

Overnight in Kruger Park.

Day 3: Kruger Activities

The day starts early (after the game rangers or hosts’ wake-up call). The start time of your morning drive will depend on rest camp gate opening times (as it differs throughout the year) and you may still be able to see nocturnal animals. April to September, the rest camp gates open at 6:00 am, November to January (4:30 am). February, March and October rest camp gates open at 5:30 am.

Enjoy coffee or tea with rusks/muffins. The morning game drive offers guests the opportunity to explore spectacular wild Africa, to spot a vast array of interesting wildlife.

After the morning game drive, brunch is a hot breakfast with coffee and tea or juice.

Once again, enjoy the afternoon game drive in Kruger.

Overnight in Kruger park.

An Optional Panorama Route excursion can be booked on one of the middle days of the safari from Kruger Park at ZAR 1500 per person (the morning drive will be a short one out of the park).

Places visited are: Gods window, bourke’s luck, Wonder view, Three Rondavels and one of the amazing waterfalls on route (time dependent). Meal/lunch stop on route in Graskop (for your own expense). This excursion must be pre-booked with your safari and is availability dependent. For guests not wanting to take part in the Panorama route tour, can continue with the standard Kruger safari itinerary (afternoon game drive on the said day). Should you participate in this activity, there will be no other activities this day.

Day 4: Kruger to Johannesburg

The day starts early (after the game rangers or hosts’ wake-up call). The start time of your morning drive will depend on rest camp gate opening times (as it differs throughout the year) and you may still be able to see nocturnal animals. April to September, the rest camp gates open at 6:00 am, November to January (4:30 am). February, March and October rest camp gates open at 5:30 am.

Enjoy coffee or tea with rusks/muffins. The morning game drive is the last chance to spot the big 5, offering guests the opportunity to explore spectacular wild Africa, to spot a vast array of interesting wildlife.

After the morning game drive, brunch is a hot breakfast with coffee and tea or juice.

Guests are dropped off at Skukuza Airport according to their flight time (included in the safari rate), at Nelspruit airport strictly 13h15pm (at and additional charge) and in Johannesburg between 17:00 and 18:00 pm (at an additional charge).

Location

This safari will be located in Sabi Sand Game Reserve, South Africa and afterwards inside Kruger National Park. The Sabi Sand Game Reserve shares a common 50 kilometers unfenced boundary with the Kruger National Park and houses some of the most exclusive game lodges in the country. It is located on the south-western corner of the Kruger National Park. On view will be the Big Five animals and countless other species (some of which are critically endangered) as well as its amazing leopard viewing.

Recommended Airports

Arrival and departure by airplane to Skukuza Airport inside Kruger National Park at any time is recommended.

We include free drop-off to Skukuza Airport, however pick-up is ZAR 700 per person.

Please book your flight to arrive at either of the following airports:

  • Skukuza Airport (SZK) - free at any time
  • For O.R. Tambo International Airport (JNB) arrive at least at 4:00 am GMT+2, as transfer pick-up is at 6:45 am at an additional ZAR 1750 per person (one-way). Our best recommendation is to book a flight from OR Tambo to Skukuza.
  • Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport (MQP) pick-up at 12:00 pm sharp is at ZAR 1200 per person one-way. Drop-off at MQP is at 13:30 pm.
  • Transfers from Johannesburg and Nelspruit (MQP) Airports can be booked at an additional cost.
  • The optional shuttle from Johannesburg to Kruger Park leaves either at 6:45 a.m. from the OR Tambo bus terminal behind the Intercontinental Hotel.
  • Flight check-in and check-out for international flights can take up to 3 hours
