This safari includes big game viewing activities in various sought after safari destinations, including Klaserie River Safari Lodge’s private property, the Kruger National Park, and exclusive private reserves. Game drives in each of these areas provide the opportunity to encounter the Big Five, as well as a host of wildlife species iconic to Africa. Also included in this package is a boat cruise on the Blyde River, which offers a fascinating, scenic experience in the world’s 3rd largest canyon.
Klaserie River Safari Lodge is named purely for its idyllic location along the banks of the river. The prestigious positioning of guest rooms provides a tranquil retreat in between a variety of activities and adventures arranged according to expertly sewn-together itineraries.
There are two main areas to the lodge: Top Lodge and River Camp. Roughly a five-minute bush walk apart, each area has a swimming pool, dining area, kitchen, and bar.
Top Lodge has an expansive verandah overlooking a waterhole, and is a scenic and sunny spot for breakfast or lunch. River Camp has a boma, ideal for dinner under the stars, accompanied by the sounds of the river.
The lodge itself is located in a fenced property but built on the banks of the Klaserie River, a variety of general game species can be found roaming the grounds, however Big Five game drives are conducted in the Greater Kruger Big Five region which is open to the Kruger National Park.
11 thatched chalets are located along the Klaserie River within a stone’s throw of the fish-filled water. Each room has a shaded wooden deck with chairs and a table from which to enjoy the view and the bird activity in the surrounding riverine trees. A host of water-loving wildlife visits the papyrus-lined channel in front of guest rooms.
Two of the chalets share an inter-leading door, which is designed for a family travelling with children. The accommodation is modern and comfortable with big glass windows to enhance the river views, and cool tiled floors throughout the bedroom and bathroom. The swimming pools, bar, and boma area are situated close to the rooms allowing for effortless movement throughout the camp.

Klaserie River Safari Lodge is located on a private property neighboring the Thornybush Game Reserve in the Greater Kruger Area. Morning or afternoon activities on the property include sunset game drives with sundowners or guided bush walks in the area surrounding the lodge. This is an opportunity to enjoy the smaller details of the bush and to learn about tracks and signs of Africa!
Full day trip to the Kruger includes a packed breakfast, which guests will enjoy at a rest area in the national park. Guests will depart Klaserie River Safari Lodge in the transfer vehicle before breakfast and head to the Kruger’s Orpen Gate, which is a short 30-minute drive away.
Enjoy the phenomenal game viewing in South Africa’s most famous wildlife reserve, indulge in some curio shopping, and enjoy lunch and refreshments (at own expense) at a rest area before returning to the lodge.
Enjoy a game drive in a Big Five safari property with some exclusive game viewing opportunities on its grounds. The Blyde River boat cruise is a unique experience of an historical and scenically beautiful natural area of South Africa. At the foot of the Drakensberg Mountains, the Blyde Canyon is the third largest in the world and its slopes are alive with greenery and fascinating rock structures, while the Blyde Dam itself is home to hippo and crocodile! Following in the footsteps of the herbivorous mammals are the carnivorous species of the South African bush. Lion, leopard, hyena, cheetah, African wild dog, and the Nile crocodile are some of the prominent predators residing in the Kruger region. Smaller predators include jackal, mongoose, civet, and genet, among others.
Some of the world’s largest mammals find their home in South Africa, where elephant, giraffe, hippo, buffalo, and rhino reside in the wild Kruger Park. Game drives into the famous national park and surrounding private reserves lead to unforgettable sightings of these large species, in addition to general game, such as zebra, impala, kudu, gnu, waterbuck, bush buck, duiker, and steenbok.
The various habitats in the Lowveld accommodated a complete smorgasbord of birder’s delights. Water bird species are abundant near rivers and waterways, while summer brings in the migrant species, which fleck colour through the trees. Grassland and forest orientated birds are found in their habitats, and birds of prey are seen and heard throughout the day.
