Day 1: Nairobi - Samburu Game Reserve

Pick up from your Nairobi Hotel at 7:00 a.m. and depart by road driving north crossing the equator from the Southern to the Northern hemisphere to Samburu Game Reserve a semi-arid region excellent for photographers. Arrive at the camp in time for lunch followed by some leisure hours for a siesta/swim before you depart at around 4:00 p.m. for an afternoon game viewing and return back to the camp before sunset.

Samburu is the name of Masai origin ‘Samburu’ being a traditional leather bag for carrying honey and milk. The region is characterized by vast, open landscapes, dried riverbeds (depending on the season of the year) and red volcanic soil. Rock outcroppings contrast against the dense woodland vegetation along the banks of Ewaso Nyiro meaning ‘River of brown water’, the river that gives life to the reserve.

Day 2: Samburu Game Reserve

This full day in the Samburu Game Reserve will be spent searching for the big five, the Samburu five and observing the vast unspoiled scenery during morning and afternoon game viewing drive, watching crocodiles bask on muddy riverbanks and velvet monkeys frolicking in the late afternoon sun. In addition, you will have a chance to interact with the Samburu People to learn about their culture.

These five particular animals are usually only found north of the equator – the long-necked gerenuk, the reticulated giraffe which is characterized by its liver-colored geometric patches defined by narrow white lines, the Grevy’s zebra which is smaller than the common zebra and looks more like a horse, the beisa oryx with black horizontal stripe running across its lower flank and the Somali ostrich males which have blue-grey necks and thighs.

Day 3: Mount Kenya National Park

After breakfast, depart for the Mount Kenya region. Arrive for lunch at Serena Mountain Lodge. Nestled in the foothills of Mount Kenya National Park, the lodge is famous for high perches and balconies, overlooking a salt lick and waterhole. Boasting a remarkable record of wildlife sightings from their floodlit waterholes and salt licks, there you will enjoy the finest in high-altitude game viewing.

Day 4: Lake Nakuru National Park

After breakfast, depart for Lake Nakuru National Park. Arrive for lunch at Ziwa Bush Lodge. Afternoon game drive in Lake Nakuru. On the floor of the Great Rift Valley, surrounded by wooded and bushy grassland, lies the beautiful Lake Nakuru National Park. Visitors can enjoy the wide ecological diversity and varied habitats that range from Lake Nakuru itself to the surrounding escarpment and picturesque ridges. Lake Nakuru National Park is ideal for bird watching, hiking, picnic, and game drives.

Day 5: Masai Mara National Reserve

Breakfast at the hotel and then depart for Masai Mara. Arrive for lunch at Mara Sopa Lodge. At 4:00 p.m., depart for an afternoon game drive. Explore Masai Mara, Kenya's finest and most outstanding wildlife sanctuary where gentle rolling grassland ensures animals are never out of sight. The first sight of this game park is breathtaking. There is nowhere else on earth to compare with this wildlife marvel. The combination of a gentle climate, scenic splendor and untold numbers of wildlife makes the Masai Mara National Reserve Kenya's most popular inland destination.

Day 6: Masai Mara Game Reserve

After breakfast, leave for a full day game drive with picnic lunch at the Mara River. Wherever you go in the vast Masai Mara, you will see a frequent amount of wildlife such as Masai giraffe, baboons, warthogs, bat-eared foxes, grey jackals, spotted hyena, topis, impala, hartebeests, wildebeest. Elephants, buffaloes, zebras, and hippos are also found in great numbers.

The ultimate action there is, without doubt, the annual wildebeest exodus, the Great Migration, in July and August when millions of these grass eaters move north from the Serengeti in search of lusher grass before turning south again in October to December.

Day 7: Masai Mara Game Reserve

Depart for a full day game drive at 8:30 a.m. Enjoy about six hours of extensive game drives in the Mara. This full-day safari game drive will enable you to discover other areas of the Masai Mara Game Reserve. Optional hot balloon safari can be organized.

Day 8

Depart for Nairobi after breakfast. Drop off at your hotel/residence in the afternoon. End of the tour with unforgettable memories!

Samburu Reserve

Samburu National Reserve is located in the Samburu district of Kenya. The park is semi-desert that has remained almost undisturbed for many years by mankind. The park is an ideal retreat for those who enjoy natural and calm serenity. A home to “Elsa the Lioness", this park is full of birdlife and Kenyan game animals and is a great park to spot Kenyan leopards that are elusive.

The reserve is well known for its rare species of animals unique to the park, such as: the long necked gerenuk, Grevy’s zebra, Baisy Oryx, and reticulated giraffe. Kenya leopard in this area is often known to visit the park in the evening mostly. The other wildlife present in the park includes hippos, cheetahs and lions, as well as elephants and buffalos.

Birdlife is as plentiful as wildlife at Samburu National Reserve, which boasts over 350 different species of birds including vultures, kingfishers, marabous, bateleurs, guinea fowl, and Somali ostriches.

Mount Kenya National Park

Mount Kenya lies within the Mount Kenya National Park which is Kenya’s highest mountain. The park flourishes with pristine wilderness, fauna, glaciers, snow-capped peaks and flora. Mount Kenya is an ideal park for hiking and mountain climbing, as well as for viewing some of Kenya’s rare and endangered animals.

The park was created to encourage tourism, to preserve the area’s natural, outstanding beauty, and to conserve the animal habitat and protect it as a water catchment area. The Park is in between Kenya’s other safari parks Meru National Park and Aberdare, Samburu.

Lake Nakuru

Lake Nakuru National Park is just about 95 miles northwest of Nairobi. For the lovers of bird watching, Lake Nakuru is home to over 400 bird species, including both the greater and lesser flamingoes, as well as home to white rhinos.

The lake is easily accessible by road from Nairobi. It is famous for its flamingos but is also home to other bird species including African fish eagles and pelicans. Surrounding the lake are woodlands and grassland inhabited by rhinos and lions.

Maasai Mara National Reserve

The Masai Mara is regarded as Kenya’s favorite and most popular game reserve, with over 140,000 visitors per year. The reserve lies approximately 270 kilometers west of Nairobi and covers an area of approximately 1,510 square kilometers, bordering the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania. The landscape is mostly open savannah grasslands and acacia shrubland.

Starting any time from late July large herds of wildebeest and zebra follow the rains and start grazing in the wide and open grasslands of what has become fondly known as “The Mara”. They may be late, but they will always make the trip, driven by dry conditions in the Serengeti and led by the lightning and thunder to the north. Come November they start the homeward journey bound again for the Serengeti. This annual spectacle is known as the “Wildebeest Migration” and is not to be missed!

At this time of year, you will also see a large number of lion, hippo, crocodile and vultures, all of which prey on the weak and young migrating animals. Other games to be found in the Masai Mara at any time of the year include elephant, cheetah, baboons, gazelle, giraffe, jackals, leopard, hyenas, water buffalo, ostriches, and a large variety of antelope and birdlife.
