Accommodation

You will stay at various accommodations arranged by Kenya Tour Budget Safari.

Accommodations on safari are usually a combination of lodges and permanent or mobile tented camps. "In the bush", and miles from civilization, these luxury camps and lodges are all unique and in amazing settings. Lodge rooms have complete bathroom amenities as do most permanent tented camps. Mobile camps can have either private en-suite facilities or shared bathrooms and shower tents. Unless you are in a major city, there will be no TV or phones with outside lines. Electric lights, running on generators, are generally lit for a few hours in the early morning and from dark until 10 or 11 p.m.

Program

Day 1: Nairobi to Masai Mara National Reserve.

You shall be picked up from your hotel in Nairobi early morning and depart to Masai Mara Game Reserve through the Great Rift Valley. There will be a brief stopover at the viewpoint of the Rift Valley. Below you can see a spectacular view of the Rift Valley floor and its beautiful landscape. You will also stop at Narok town for a break and refueling. Arrive at your destination in time for lunch; take lunch at the camp as you relax before proceeding to the afternoon game drive.

Proceed with the afternoon game drive thereafter through the park in search of animals popularly known for the wildebeest migration from Serengeti in Tanzania in July –October. Be keen to spot the wildebeests, zebras, lions, cheetahs, elephants, buffalo, Thompson’s gazelle, hyena, black-backed and side-striped jackals, impala, bat-eared foxes, baboons, warthog, Thompson’s gazelle, Grant’s gazelle, waterbuck, reed-buck, hippo, crocodile and elands.

Dinner and overnight at the camp

Day 2: Full day in Masai Mara

Full-day games viewing as you explore this spectacular park. The Mara is the land of African legend: Lions are abundant throughout the park, as are the elephants, giraffes, and a variety of gazelle species and zebra. Cheetahs and leopards are also regularly seen and, less commonly, rhinos.

The annual wildebeest migration, one of nature's few remaining wildlife spectacles, occurs in the Mara from July to September where the big animals and their predators are to be present in abundance during the time frame of this trip. Several species of Bee-Eater, the flying rainbow that heads the list of Mara's birds, occur in the reserve.

Day 3: Full day in Masai Mara

After breakfast, leave the camp with packed picnic lunch for both the morning and evening game drive in this reserve which is essentially the Northern extension of Tanzania's Serengeti National Park. Visit the river Mara and River Talek cutting through the park and the source of water for the animals. Here you will have a chance to see the hippos and crocodiles.

The annual wildebeest and zebras migration happens along the river Mara. You may be lucky to witness the crossing and the struggle for survival as the animals avoid the hungry crocodiles and hippos waiting to feed on them. The Masai Mara is also home to many members of the colorful Masai tribe who may be seen around the borders of the park - Moran’s (warriors) loping across the plains, young boys herding goats, or elders grouped under a tree discussing matters of the day.

A visit to a Masai boma (homestead) reveals this outstanding culture and customs (optional).
