Day 1: Welcome, trip briefing, Nairobi to Masai Mara, and evening game drive
Your gold-level safari guide will be at the airport, hotel, or apartment in the morning to pick you up for your safari. The team shall welcome you, introduce the staff, and give you a short trip briefing so you know what to expect on day 1.
You will then start the road trip from Nairobi to Masai Mara, a 289-kilometer journey that will take about six hours.
After about an hour and a half into the trip, you shall make a stopover at the Great Rift Valley viewpoint. The guide will invite you to take photos of the amazing landscape and enjoy the cool breeze of the area.
Then, continue with the trip, and stop in two hours at Narok town to give you a chance to do last-minute shopping, stretch then followed with lunch on the way. Your gold-level guide will then come for you for an evening game drive the evening is an excellent time to get a glimpse of the animals as they relax in the cool of the evening.
You may occasionally come across an elusive leopard hiding in the shades or some buffaloes enjoying a fighting game.
Evenings at the reserve are magical with golden oars of the African sun warming your skin as we head back to the Mara Serena lodge for the night. Your private guide will leave you to relax and have a good time at the hotel. Kenya Tour Budget Safari recommends an early nap so that you are fresh enough for the full-day game drive the next day.
Day 2: A whole day of game-watching and photo safaris
Day 2 offers you a chance to get up close and personal with the wildlife. Your guide will pick you up after breakfast for the game drives. The sunrise game drive provides an excellent opportunity to catch the elusive cats as they pry the grasslands, readying for hunting.
It is also the best time to spot the over 450 bird species and 99 mammals and reptile species that reside in the Mara. Expect to spot wildebeests, herds of elephants, hyenas, impalas, gazelles, topis, buffaloes, and other animals as they head out for the first meal of the day.
Your gold-level guide knows all the best locations for superb wildlife spotting and fantastic landscapes for photography. In between, he will interrupt with interesting facts about the animals that you find.
You shall stop at noon for some delicious packed lunch, relax, and take photos of the amazing landscape before embarking on our game drive for more fun in the wilderness.
You will get back to Mara Serena Masai Mara in the evening where your guide will leave you to enjoy the night.
You can have a bush dinner, relax in the swimming pool or review the great images and footage that you took during the day trip while relaxing in your room. How about an optional bush dinner at USD 150 per person?
Day 3: A whole day inside the park – optional hot air balloon ride
The third day gives you a chance to view some rare moments that you may not have captured on the second day such as a leopard hunting an impala, a gazelle giving birth, or buffaloes playing in the mud. The expansive reserve provides varied experiences at different corners and you will find many unique events in the jungle.
You may request an optional hot air balloon ride at USD 450 per person to see most of the reserve from a bird’s eye view.
At the end of the third day, expect to have seen countless bird species, the big five, herbivores such as zebras, impalas and gazelles, crocodiles, and hippopotami (by the Mara River).

The Masai Mara migration is an awe-inspiring spectacle that sees over a million wildebeests, 500,000 zebras, and 200,000 impalas cross the Mara River from the Serengeti national reserve into Masai Mara.
The apex predators such as cheetahs, lions, and crocodiles are always at hand to make a kill from the migration, allowing you to see many animals at once.
Day 4: Morning game drive, Masai Village visit, trip back to Nairobi
Your trip is coming to an end on a high note. You will leave the hotel in the morning after an early breakfast with all your bags. You won’t be coming back to the Mara Serena Hotel.
You will then start the day with one dawn game drive, ideally to a location you have not visited before. You will capture some great moments at the reserve and exit the Masai Mara at 10:30 a.m.
Your next stop will be Masai Village. This will be an optional activity at an extra cost of 30 USD per person. At the village, you will get a chance to learn the history and rich culture of the Masai as you purchase some curios to take home.
During the brief stay, you can learn how to make the Masai fire, get adorned with glittering beadwork, or get a leather belt and a shuka to take home. The village has an amazing show of colors, smiling faces, and unique cultural experiences.
You shall then embark on the road trip to JKIA / Nairobi. You will get to see Kenya’s diverse landscape on your way to Nairobi. Make a stopover at Narok at around noon for some packed lunch and stretch your body before continuing the journey.
