Ashnil Tented Camp (4 nights)

Ashnil Tented Camp is arguably in one of the very best positions in the Maasai Mara for game viewing and also provides the perfect setting to sit and relax at the end of an exciting day of game drives. It consists of 40 luxury tents and includes luxury en-suite bathrooms, walk-in closets, and a sun deck for relaxation while watching game. It has a clinic, restaurant, a lounge bar, and a swimming pool.

Sarova Lion Hill Lodge (1 night)

Day 1: Nairobi

Following your flight schedule, the staff will greet you at the airport and load your bags to transfer you to the hotel. Once you are settled in, you may select an optional activity or simply relax at the camp for the trip ahead. Some of the possible optional activities include Bomas of Kenya, Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage, Karen Blixen Museum, a tour of downtown Nairobi, the National Museum, or Langata Giraffe Center. Overnight at Sarova Panafric Hotel. Breakfast and drinking water are included.

Day 2: Samburu National Reserve

This morning, you will travel by road to Kenya’s northern frontier. Wild and rugged, Samburu is fiercely beautiful with its arid savannahs watered by the lovely Uaso Nyiro River. It is also one of Kenya’s most protected areas and home to species only found north of the equator, from the reticulated giraffe to Grevy’s zebras and Beisa oryxes.

Enjoy Ashnil Tented Camp, the hostelry set beneath a canopy of acacia trees along the banks of the river. The travel time is about four to five hours. You will overnight at Ashnil Samburu Tented Camp. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, and drinking water are included.

Day 3: Samburu National Reserve

Dawn breaks in golden bands as you start your day in the bush by scanning the river from your tent’s veranda with a cup of steaming coffee in hand. Before the dew is off the grass, you are off in pursuit of the elephants, lions, leopards, and cheetahs that thrive in the reserve’s grasslands and acacia woodlands. The day is spent in alternating pursuits of exploration in the bush and relaxation in your cozy camp.

The morning game drive will be at 6:15 a.m. to 9 a.m. Midday game drive will be at 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., or you may take an optional visit to Samburu cultural village. At 4 p.m., you will have an evening game drive until 6:45 p.m. Overnight at Ashnil Tented Camp. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, and drinking water are included.

Day 4: Ol Pejeta Conservancy

Today, you will travel to the exotic Sweetwaters Tented Camp in the secluded heart of Ol Pejeta ranch and rhino reserve. In this place, these magnificent beasts are given sanctuary from those who would take their lives to sell their horns. Here, the Jane Goodall Institute operates a remarkable chimpanzee sanctuary where you can meet the primates face-to-face. The camp also overlooks one of the busiest waterholes in the area and offers elephant, giraffe, and myriad plains game.

This is Africa as Teddy Roosevelt saw it years ago when he led one of the first safari tours in Africa in comfort and splendor. The tents at Sweetwaters Camp will remind you of this bygone era. The drive time is two to two and a half hours. The evening game drive will be from 3 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. Overnight at Sweetwaters Tented Camp. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, and drinking water are included.

Day 5: Lake Nakuru National Park

Today, you will travel to the exotic Lake Nakuru National Park located in the Great Rift Valley. After lunch, an exciting game run is planned for the afternoon. The game in this park is plentiful and the magnificent bird watching will make a devotee out of even the most reluctant. The park is a home to stunning flocks of lesser and greater flamingos, which literally turn the lakeshores in for a magnificent pink stretch.

The bird life here is world-renown and over 400 bird species exist here, such as white pelicans, plovers, egrets, and marabou stork. It is also one of the very few places in Africa to see the white rhino and rare Rothschild giraffe. The evening game drive will be from 3 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. Overnight will be at Sarova Lion Hill Lodge. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, and drinking water are included.

Day 6: Maasai Mara National Reserve

This morning, you drive through the dramatic Great Rift Valley to the Maasai Mara National Reserve. This enormous reserve is actually part of the vast Serengeti plains, famously known for its spectacular great wildebeest migration and is the home of the Big Five: lion, elephant, leopard, buffalo, and rhino. You will have your lunch at the lodge and relax before departing for the afternoon game run.

Mara Game Reserve is one of the greatest wildernesses of the world. Large mammals are varied and easy to see. Residents among the parks are Maasai giraffe, buffalo, eland, and thousand of plain game including impala, zebra, topi, and both Thomson's and Grants gazelles. The evening game drive will be from 3:30 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. Overnight at Ashnil Tented Camp. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, and drinking water are included.

Day 7: Maasai Mara National Reserve

You will spend the day with a full day game drive from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. The search for great predators and perhaps even cubs continues today during extensive game drives. On the plains, you will see enormous herds of grazing animals plus the elusive cheetah and leopard hiding among the acacia boughs. Overnight at Ashnil Tented Camp. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, and drinking water are included.

Day 8: Maasai Mara to Nairobi

You will enjoy your early breakfast at the camp. Check out of the camp afterwards and conduct a game drive en-route with an optional opportunity to visit a village of the Maasai people to witness the singing and dancing that are part of their daily life and sacred rituals. A glimpse into their homes and social structure is a poignant experience. You will drive to Nairobi and thereafter to the airport for your outbound flight. Breakfast and picnic lunch are included.
