Kagera Safaris arranged a Saturday visit to the Mabamba Swamp on Lake Victoria. The tour included car transportation from hotel to lake, a well-informed driver/guide, an excellent birding guide and boat trip through the swamp's channels, which are teeming with all kinds of birds. We saw a shoebill in flight as well as Purple Herons, African Jacana, Cisticola, Long-toed Lapwing, Malachite Kingfishers, Pied Kingfishers, Blue-breasted Bee-eaters, Northern Brown-breasted Weaver, and cormorants. It was a very nice day trip (ca. 8am to 3pm). Traffic is likely unavoidable in afternoon--recommend leaving earlier in the morning though.

A very interesting tour of Rwanda. Exploring Kigali, several genocide memorial centres, local community experiences and a gorilla safari. Very well organised with Peter, our local guide and driver and Miriam, the owner and guide. My wife and I were the whole group, and Miriam and Peter became friends. Kigali is a modern town, and we learnt a lot about the genocide in 1994. We would actually like to find out more about the reconciliation afterwards. Sharing the daily life of a family in a local village was very interesting, and the gorilla safari was amazing. We had never dreamt of coming so close to them. We were also impressed by the cleanliness all over the country and the beauty of the thousand green hills.
