Program

From Cape Town, you will travel leisurely up the Garden Route. You will venture through beautiful landscapes, endless coastlines and many little towns with amazing character and cultural diversity. When the season is right (August to November), you will be able to do shark cage diving as well as whale watching in the beautiful towns of Gansbaai / Hermanus.

Your last few nights will be spent in luxury accommodation in one of South Africa’s biggest game reserves where the Big 5 will be seen in their natural habitat. To ensure that you get the most out of your bush adventure, the tour includes two game activities per night of stay. After you have enjoyed the best that the bush has to offer, you will be transferred back to the airport for your flight back home.

Proposed and custom itinerary

Day 1: Cape Town private airport and dinner transfers

  • Accommodation: 5-star hotel at Table Bay Hotel or similar

Upon landing at Cape Town International Airport (CPT), you will be greeted by your private tour guide who will take care of all your Cape Town transfers and tours. You will be transported in a luxury air-conditioned sedan vehicle or mini bus to your hotel. You will enjoy the rest of the day at your own leisure. Welcome drinks and lunch at the hotel restaurant will be served (included).

Your personal driver will collect you later at approximately 7:00 - 7:30 p.m. for dinner transfers (both ways) at a recommended restaurant or your own choice (dinner on own account) and will drop you off at the hotel after dinner.

Day 2: Cape Town private city tour with Table Mountain

Soon after breakfast, you will be picked up at your accommodation at 9:00 a.m. by your tour guide/driver and embark on a driving and small walking tour of this historic city.

Begin in the heart of the city in Adderley street where you will view historical monuments like Bartholomew Dias, Jan van Riebeeck, and Zackarias Waganaer Reservoir. Thereafter, you will visit some heritage museums like the Slave Lodge and Cape Castle. You will see the City Hall and the Company Gardens and proceed past the House of Parliament. Stop at the Noon Gun and continue to the Bokaap where we will see the famous Colourful houses in the Cape Quarter and stop to take some photos.

An optional stop at Afrogem will be offered to witness the production of fine African jewelry with a focus on rich gold, platinum, diamonds, and tanzanite. Guests will be able to walk the working factory floor and visit the showroom. You then proceed to the top of Signal Hill to admire the view of the City Bowl area including the Cape Town Stadium.

Thereafter, you take the cable car up to the top of Table Mountain to explore this unique wonder of nature. Upon your return from Table Mountain, you will proceed to Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens for a tour of one of the most beautiful gardens in South Africa. This unmatched natural beauty can be found at the foot of Table Mountain.

Lunch will be served at Moyo Restaurant at Kirstenbosch or similar (lunch is included). Time permitting, guests will have an option to stop at one of the oldest wine estates in South Africa known as Groot Constantia for a wine tasting. You will be dropped off at your accommodation after the tour at approximately 5:00 p.m.

Your personal driver will collect you later at approximately 7:00 - 7:30 p.m. for dinner transfers (both ways) at a recommended restaurant or your own choice (dinner at own account) and will drop you off at the hotel after dinner. Panama Jack, Baia or the Cod Father seafood restaurants are recommended.

Day 3: Cape Peninsula Private Tour

  • Accommodation: 5-star hotel at Table Bay Hotel or similar

Your pick up at your accommodation will be at 9:00 a.m. (flexible time) by your tour guide/driver where you will embark on a memorable private Cape Town excursion. You will travel along the Atlantic Seaboard, with the mountains on one side and the ocean on the other while passing through Bantry Bay, Clifton, and Camps Bay. You will have a photo stop at Maiden’s Cove. You will then proceed past the 12 Apostles mountain range and Llandudno, without next stop being in Hout Bay. You will then enjoy a boat trip to Seal Island to view the seals (weather permitting),

Upon your return from Seal Island, you will proceed along Chapman’s Peak drive, one of the best scenic drives not only in South Africa but in the world. Various stops for photos will be on the cards. From there, you proceed through Noordhoek and you will stop for the finest roasted cup of coffee at The Village Roast.

The next stop will be the breathtaking Cape Point Vineyard, known as the masters in producing the best white wines in South Africa. You will sample the wines produced there with great views of Long Beach from a distance. From there, you proceed to the monument of Just Nuisance, the Great Dane who made his own history in the South African Navy in Simon’s Town. You then continue to Boulder’s Beach to see the endangered African Penguins colony in their natural habitat.

The next stop will be at the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve and Cape Point Lighthouse. Please wear comfortable shoes and always bring a jacket. Ask your expert Cape Point tour guide to guide you along the safe hiking trails, should you be a keen hiker. Lunch will be enjoyed at the Two Oceans restaurant at Cape Point (lunch is included)

Once in the Cape of Good Hope Nature reserve, you explore the Dias cross, fauna, and flora and see the meeting point of the two currents: the cold Benguela Current and the warm Agulhas Current. You may also encounter some baboons and other wildlife. Guests are advised not to get too close to the Baboons and avoid feeding them as these are wild animals and can, therefore, be dangerous.

The return route is passing through Fish Hoek, Kalk Bay, and Muizenburg, via the Old Cape Road. You will be dropped off at your accommodation after the tour at 5:00 p.m. Your personal driver will collect you later at approximately 7:00 - 7:30 p.m. for dinner transfers (both ways) at a recommended restaurant or your own choice (dinner at own account) and will drop you off at the hotel after dinner. Nelson’s eye or the Butcher grill steak restaurants are recommended.

Day 4: Cape Town private wine tour

  • Accommodation: 5-star hotel at Table Bay Hotel or similar

Soon after an all-inclusive breakfast at the hotel, you will be picked up at your accommodation by your tour Guide/Driver at 9:00 a.m. Experience the Stellenbosch, Paarl, and Franschhoek wine estates on this splendid route and enjoy a romantic three-course exclusive lunch at Delaire Graff/Indochine vineyard Estate or similar (lunch is included). You begin by traveling along the N2 towards Spier wine estate where you will sample some top South African wines with chocolates. The second winery will be DeMorgenzon wine estate. This award-winning winery has produced the best Chenin Blanc and Chardonnay in the world. Next will be Jordan Wine Estate where you will do a cellar tour and learn how wine is made and sample all top wines which are crafted here. From there, you continue on this route to Stellenbosch (South Africa’s second-oldest town after Cape Town) for a town orientation tour.

Then you will have an exclusive lunch at Indochine restaurant situated at Delaire Graff Vineyard or similar. You will then explore the Town of Franschhoek before heading back to the hotel with a stop at the last Prison of Nelson Mandela in Paarl. You will take some memorable photos with a huge monument erected there to commemorate Nelson’s Mandela freedom. Drop off at the hotel after the tour.

Your personal driver will collect you later at approximately 7:00 - 7:30 p.m. for dinner transfers (both ways) at a recommended restaurant or your own choice (dinner at own account) and will drop you off at the hotel after dinner. Marcos, Gold or Africa Café - African cuisine restaurants are recommended.

Day 5: Shark cage diving tour

  • Accommodation: 5-star hotel at Table Bay Hotel or similar

Pick up will be confirmed at least 24 hours before the time. Prepare for an early morning pick up, usually around 06:00 a.m. You will journey along the scenic N2 road of the Western Cape in luxury. As you head towards the town of Gansbaai, world-renowned for its shark diving facilities, enjoy a light breakfast upon arrival at the diving base and get an introductory briefing with the diving crew.

You then board the chartered boat for a thrilling cage diving adventure. You experience the unique sensation of coming up close to sharks in the complete safety of a cage. There will be fresh towels and diving equipment provided onboard the boat during the three to four-hour experience, along with a dive certificate and DVD of the day upon your return to base. Upon your return to the base, you can freshen up with a hot shower and clean towels.

Thereafter, you return to Cape Town. Along the way, you stop in the town of Hermanus, known for its high plant diversity and whale watching activities. Guests will have the option to either taste regional wines at two wineries of the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley or do some whale viewing from the shore during whale watching season.

You will have an exclusive three-course food and wine pairing lunch at Creation wine estate (lunch is included). Thereafter, you continue through the small coastal village of Betty’s Bay, where you will explore one of the largest penguin colonies of Cape Town at Stony Point. You will be dropped off at your accommodation at around 5:00 p.m.

Your personal driver will collect you later at approximately 7:00 - 7:30 p.m. for dinner transfers (both ways) at a recommended restaurant or your own choice (dinner at own account) and will drop you off at the hotel after dinner. Karibu restaurant at the Waterfront is recommended.

Day 6: Garden Route Private Tour - Mossel Bay

  • Accommodation: five-star hotel at Africa Oceans Manor on the Beach or similar

Guests will be collected at their accommodation by a qualified tour guide/driver in a luxury air-conditioned vehicle at 9:00 a.m. You will travel along the scenic, mountainous wine route of the Franschhoek Pass, with an optional stop for Wine tasting at one wine estate. Passing through the picturesque Theewaterskloof Dam, you will connect with the N2 just before the town of Caledon. There will be frequent comfort stops along the way.

You will stop for lunch at the beautiful Drostdy Restaurant (lunch is included), situated on the historic Zanddrift building in Swellendam. After lunch, you will proceed on N2 towards Albertinia and will have a stop at the Aloe Vera factory (20 minutes) for a complimentary cup of coffee and optional shopping.

The next stop will be Mossel Bay, where you will smell and come into contact for the first time with the majestic Indian ocean. You will travel to Zorgfontein to walk with the lions. This is a completely safe activity as you will be accompanied by qualified game rangers who will guide you along this thrilling experience.

From there, you will overnight in Mossel Bay. After check-in at your accommodation and freshening up, guests will be taken for dinner at a recommended restaurant at the waterfront (Dinner at own account). Thereafter, guests will be dropped off at their hotel/guest house for a good night’s rest.

Day 7: Garden Route Private Tour - Oudtshoorn, George and Knysna

  • Accommodation: five-star hotel at Conrad Pezula by Hilton or similar

Guests will be collected at their accommodation after check-out and an all-inclusive breakfast. Enjoy a helicopter tour of Mossel Bay. After the helicopter tour, you will explore the Mossel Bay area with the highlights as follows: The Post Office Tree, the Bartholomew Diaz Museum complex and the St. Blaize Lighthouse.

You will depart for Oudtshoorn through the spectacular Robinson Pass to the Cango Caves for the heritage tour. After the Cango Caves, you will have lunch at the Ostrich farm (lunch is included) and you will have a safari tour at this farm. Soon after lunch, you will depart for Knysna known as the jewel of the Garden Route via the spectacular Outeniqua Pass and the 4 Passes situated at 800 meters above sea level with various stops for photos. You will drive through George, Wilderness, Sedgefield, and Knysna, with majestic scenic views of the lakes and rivers. You will check in at Conrad Pezula Hotel or similar.

Guests will be taken to the waterfront at approximately 7:30 p.m. for dinner at own account. 34 Degrees South Restaurant or Anchorage are highly recommended. Guests will be dropped off at the hotel after dinner for a good night rest. Skydiving diving can be requested at own account.

Day 8: Garden Route - Knysna - Plettenberg bay -Tsitsikamma Forest

  • Accommodation: five-star hotel at Conrad Pezula by Hilton or similar

Guests will be collected at their accommodation at 9:00 a.m. Today, you will travel on the scenic route towards Plettenburg Bay to visit the Elephant Sanctuary (one hour). There, you will have the opportunity to walk with the elephants - trunk in hand. From there, you will continue towards Storms River Mouth and have an optional lunch at the Cattle Baron (lunch is included).

After lunch, you will embark on a guided walking tour of about 900 meters to the hanging bridge and participate in a canopy tour over the Tsitsikamma Forest. Should you want to do bungee jumping, please speak to your tour guide. You then return to the hotel to freshen up at your accommodation and relax before dinner.

Guests will be taken to Thesen Island at approximately 7:30 p.m. for dinner at own account. Sirocco restaurant is highly recommended. Guests will be drop off at the Hotel after dinner for a good night rest.

Day 9: Garden Route - Port Elizabeth and Addo

  • Accommodation: five-star hotel at Woodall Country House, Addo Elephant Park or similar

Check out at the agreed time and depart for Addo Elephants National Park, home to more than 600 African elephants and other species of the Big 5 for a safari of a lifetime. After the safari, guests will check-in at Woodall Country House in Addo Elephant Park or similar. Dinner will be served at the hotel (dinner is included) with local beverages.

Day 10: Kruger National Park Tour

  • Accommodation: five-star hotel at &Beyond Ngala 5 Star Lodge or similar

Pick up at Woodall Country House in Addo Elephant Park, explore Port Elizabeth and transfer to Port Elizabeth International Airport for flight to Hoedspruit. Pick up at Hoedspruit and transfer to Ngala Safari Lodge, Kruger (5-star establishment). Check-in will be at 2:00 p.m., followed by a welcome drink, small orientation and indemnity form signing. Lunch will be served between 2:00 and 3:00 p.m.

You will be met at high tea by your ranger who will interact with you throughout your stay at the lodge. After high tea, you will go out on your first game drive which will end after 6:00 p.m. depending on which sightings you have. You will return to the lodge, freshen up and dinner will be served after 7:00 p.m.

Day 14: Johannesburg private transfers

Today, you will check out of Ngala Safari Lodge at approximately 11:00 a.m. and transfer to the main airstrip for their flight to Skukuza at 12:30 p.m. You will arrive in Skukuza at 1:05 p.m. and from there, you take a connecting 1:30 p.m. flight to OR Tambo International Airport (JNB)and arrive at 2:35 p.m. Guests will receive a transfer to their hotel in Sandton, Johannesburg for their overnight.

Day 15: Johannesburg airport transfer

Soon after an all-inclusive breakfast, pick up at hotel in Sandton, Johannesburg and transfer to OR Tambo International Airport for your flight home or onwards.

Fondly known by locals as the 'Rainbow Nation', South Africa has 11 official languages and its multicultural inhabitants are influenced by a fascinating mix of cultures. Discover the gourmet restaurants, impressive art scene, vibrant nightlife and beautiful beaches of Cape Town; enjoy a local braai (barbecue) in the Soweto township; browse the bustling Indian markets in Durban, or sample some of the world’s finest wines at the myriad wine estates dotting the Cape Winelands.

Some historical attractions to explore include the Zululand battlefields of KwaZulu-Natal, the Apartheid Museum in Johannesburg and Robben Island, just off the coast of Cape Town. Above all else, its remarkably untamed wilderness with its astonishing range of wildlife roaming freely across massive unfenced game reserves such as the world-famous Kruger National Park. With all of this variety on offer, it is little wonder that South Africa has fast become Africa’s most popular tourist destination.

Cape Town (days 1 to 6)

Resting at the confluence of the Indian and Atlantic oceans, sandwiched between the slopes of the iconic Table Mountain and the glistening sapphire waters of Table Bay, the exceptionally scenic city of Cape Town is in a class of its own. Some cities boast rich culture, vibrant nightlife, a cosmopolitan atmosphere, and extraordinary architecture, while others boast breathtaking landscapes and extraordinary natural wonders. Cape Town is lucky enough to be blessed with all of these attractions and so much more.

With its bustling harbor, world-class beaches, top-notch vineyards, and its mountainous surroundings brimming with diverse flora and fauna, Cape Town consistently captivates the hearts of all who visit.

Mossel Bay (days 7 to 8)

Idyllically set along the Garden Route on South Africa’s spectacularly scenic coastline, the port town Mossel Bay has rapidly grown from its days as a little fishing village. Today, it is a thriving holiday resort town boasting a large bay edged by long sandy beaches. Mossel Bay serves as an excellent base from which to explore the renowned Garden Route. This historic town has plenty of recreational attractions - one of which is the Mossel Bay golf course, which boasts a spectacular sea view from every tee affording visitors the chance to whale watch as they line up their next shot.

Visitors can also enjoy an array of other wonderful activities including visiting the 19th-century Cape St. Blaize Lighthouse, sampling local cuisine, as well as enjoying 4x4 excursions, swimming, hiking, and kayaking.

Greater Addo (days 9 to 10)

Stretching from the spectacularly scenic Zuurberg Mountain Range to the beautiful Sundays River, the Greater Addo area is known for its malaria-free big game viewing opportunities. It is an area rich in history and diverse in culture featuring lush citrus valleys, rolling dunes, and abundant fauna and flora. Easily accessible from the large city of Port Elizabeth, Greater Addo boasts numerous private game reserves, which are home to the Big Five.

Must-see sites include the renowned Addo Elephant National Park, hosting one of the most densely populated elephant herds in the world and the thriving Nanaga Farm Stall known for its delicious pies. The Greater Addo area offers an exciting array of activities ranging from hiking, horse riding, fishing, canoeing and mountain biking; to bird watching, game safaris, and 4x4 off-road adventures.

Timbavati Private Nature Reserve (days 10 to 14)

Located in the Mpumalanga Province, north of the Sabi Sands Private Game Reserve, the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve shares a fenceless border with the world-renowned Kruger National Park. This 60,000-hectare reserve is best known for its two very rare white lions that were discovered here in the 1970s.

The name ‘Timbavati’ refers to these two unique creatures, it means 'the place where something sacred came down to earth from the heavens'. It is home to a number of exclusive African-style bush lodges set amidst spectacular African savannah and abundant game including over 40 mammal species, 360 bird species, and the famous Big Five. Visitors can enjoy a wide selection of activities including daytime safaris, night game drives, guided bush walks, and bird watching.

Johannesburg (days 14 to 15)

Johannesburg is one of Africa’s biggest and most vibrant cities. It is the economic capital of Africa and the gateway to Southern Africa. Although not as famous as other South African destinations, there is plenty to do in Johannesburg and nearby Pretoria.

The old city is a multi-cultural mixture of traditional medicine shops, Chinese restaurants, taxi ranks, and ultra-modern skyscrapers. There are excellent museums, art galleries and organized tours of historical and political interest. The shopping is Southern Africa’s best and the many restaurants cater for all tastes. The nearby township of Soweto is Johannesburg’s most popular tourist attraction.

Food

During your stay in the lodge, you will be provided with three daily meals, soft drinks, house wines, local brand spirits and beers, teas and coffees, refreshments on game drives. While in Cape Town and Garden Route, you will be provided with breakfast, lunch and bottled water on the vehicle.

Standards of hygiene in relation to food health and safety in South Africa are generally high in hotels, restaurants, pubs, and nightspots. Tap water in South Africa is safe to drink and cook with when taken from taps in urban areas. Not all tap water in rural areas is safe for consumption, so take precautions if necessary.

It is safe to eat fresh fruit, vegetables, and salads and put ice in your drinks. South Africa's fish, meat and chicken are of excellent quality, so there is no need to limit yourself when enjoying the local cuisine. Restaurants are subject to South Africa's food safety control legislation, which is implemented by the local government. Regulations include certification and regular inspections by health inspectors to ensure hygienic standards are maintained.

Street food is not as common in South Africa as it is in other countries, although vendors selling traditional snacks and meals can be found in city centers and townships. Food safety in such instances cannot always be guaranteed.
