Find your way back to nature on this 10-Day Yoga Safari Retreat in the Selati Game Reserve. Safari Tent

The camp consists of five Safari Tents (stand-up height) which will have two comfortable beds with top quality linen provided (can be joined to form doubles on request), en-suite open-air bathrooms with hot showers, toilets, and a washbasin with a mirror. There are a cupboard and charging points for your electronics available.

In front of the tent is a cozy seating place at your disposal where you can enjoy the beautiful view into the bush and watch the animals walking past.


This program gives you some insight into our retreat. Changes in the sequence or the content may occur.

Day 1

Guests typically arrive in Hoedspruit in the morning and will be met and collected by us at the Rock Fig Center. Followed by an hour's vehicle transfer to Lalapalm Yoga Safari camp in the Selati Game Reserve. Or they meet you directly at the gate of the Reserve.

You will have time to settle and freshen-up in your tent prior to a light lunch followed by a safety briefing and a talk about the program for the upcoming days – setting expectations and prepping you for what will be an epic wildlife and yoga experience.

Then you will depart for a relaxed walk outside of camp, slowly introducing everyone to the environment and stretching our legs after a long day of travel.

After dinner you will have a fire ceremony. Fire is symbolic of change and transformation. Lalapalm Yoga Safari set a personal intention for the upcoming days together.

Day 2

Youur days will start early, typically before sunrise, for meditation practice and a cup of coffee/tea and some cereals prior to meet for your Game Walk. This walk will focus on the introduction of Selati, the Savanna Biome and the vegetation in this area. Lalapalm Yoga Safari will explain to you the walking technique and the way of finding and approaching animals.

Potential target mammal species in the Selati Game Reserve include leopard, lion, elephant, buffalo, hyena, zebra, giraffe, warthog, waterbuck, chacma baboon, vervet monkey and nyala.

Eventually, you will slow down from chasing down the larger, rarer iconic mammals as you start to focus more on the birdlife and other creatures that call this reserve home.

Target bird species are far too numerous to mention them all, but a few specials include Grey-hooded Kingfisher, Western Osprey, Lappet-faced Vulture, Thick-billed Cuckoo and many more species.

The morning game walks are typically 3 to 5 hours in duration and consist of a mid-way breakfast break in a nice spot.

Arriving back in camp you will have a chance to return to your rooms and freshen up briefly before a well-deserved lunch around 1 pm.

There is then a break during mid-day. You can use this break to relax, to cool down in the splash pool, to read a book, or just to observe the animals that pass by in camp.

In the afternoon at around 3 or 4 pm, you will start with a pranayama practice, inhaling the fresh air of the wilderness, followed by a yoga session. Those sessions throughout the week are dedicated to specific topics. After our session tea and snacks are waiting for you.

After your practice you have time to rest and freshen up prior to dinner and discussions on the next day’s program.

Any changes or additions to the daily routine will be discussed on a day to day bases.

Day 3

As every day you will start this day again with a meditation, coffee and tea before we start our morning game walk. On this walk, Lalapalm Yoga Safari will teach you different tracks and how to track an animal. If you find fresh tracks you will start following the animal and try to find it.

In the afternoon is another asana practice waiting for you.

After dinner you will have an astronomy talk, where Lalapalm Yoga Safari introduces you to the stars of the southern hemisphere.

Day 4

After coffee and tea you will leave early morning with the vehicle towards the area of an archaeological site. The last stretch you will walk on foot to explore the hill and its surroundings. After a meditation session on top of the hill you will have your breakfast while enjoying the view. This place is normally a good area to spot elephants, rhinos and lions.

In the afternoon you will have another pranayama and asana practice.

Day 5

You meet each other early morning for our meditation session while the wilderness around you is waking up. You find coffee and tea ready before we head out for a beautiful bushwalk. Today we are focusing on behavior of the animals.

There will be another yoga session in the afternoon. After dinner, you will head out for a night game drive. Drive with a spotlight searching for some nocturnal creatures. These can include leopard, lion, genet, civit, various mongoose species, bush babies and much more.

Day 6

After your early morning cup of coffee and some cereals, drive towards the Cycad reserve and stop at the bottom of Lillie Koppie. You will then walk on top, where you will visit the ancient cycads and learn more about them. On top of the Koppie on those big rocks, you will find ourselves a beautiful spot for a guided meditation. Then while enjoying the amazing view you will have your breakfast break.

In the afternoon you will have another pranayama and asana practice.

Day 7

This day is dedicated to the birds. Start with meditation in camp and a cup of coffee or tea before you head out for another beautiful safari walk. You will learn more about the birds of the area, their call and their typical behavior.

After lunch you will have a yoga session before you drive out to visit the vulture restaurant. Where you learn more about this amazing and often misunderstood creatures. From there you will be driven to a nice sundowner spot where you will watch the sunset.

Day 8

After a cup of coffee or tea we drive out to another beautiful viewpoint. You will hike up the highest mountain in the area, called La Bela France. Around this mountain, you can usually find Black Rhino, Elephants and Elands. You will slowly spiral up the mountain towards the peak. Vultures normally fly around the mountain due to the updrafts it creates, giving you a spectacular view of White-backed Vultures as they soar around you. On the top you catch your breath in a guided meditation before you enjoy your breakfast and then slowly descend again.

In the afternoon, stretch the muscles you used in the morning during asana practice.

After dinner you will enjoy a yoga nidra before heading to bed.

Day 9

Start your day with an early morning meditation and coffee or tea before you go on your morning game walk where you will learn more about the vegetation in this area, about the trees, shrubs, grasses and flowers.

Youur yoga session in the afternoon is followed by a sundowner drive. Drive to a magical place and enjoy the last sunset of your retreat together before you head back to camp for your dinner.

Day 10

Today marks the end of your retreat. Start with the last meditation practice early morning and a full cooked breakfast prior to your departure.

The Selati Game Reserve is a 27 000 ha private reserve situated in the Limpopo Province of South Africa with unique biodiversity and unmatched beauty. It is the Ga-Salati River running through it which is a tributary of the Olifants River. Founded in 1993 through the collaborative effort of landowners in the area who shared a common vision, the reserve plays a vital role in conserving and enhancing the wildlife heritage of South Africa.

The reserve is home to the Lillie Cycad Reserve which contains the critically endangered Encephalartos dyerianos cycad, which can only be found here.

Selati is a Big Five area but also has Cheetah, Black & White Rhino, Hyenas, Hippo and many more. It is also home to the biggest population of free roaming Sable antelope in Southern Africa due to a very good breeding program.

Due to vulture numbers diminishing in Southern Africa, Selati has established a vulture restaurant which feeds vultures on a regular basis, contributing to their conservation. This allows for some of the best vulture viewing opportunities in Southern Africa.

Breakfast is prepared as taking away so we can bring it on our morning walking safari, during which we will have a break and enjoy our breakfast out in the bush.

Lunch and dinner will be prepared and served at the camp.

The menu plan consists of international dishes combined with traditional South African cuisine.

Arrival by airplane

If you book a flight to O.R. Tambo International Airport (JNB), you can choose to arrive by shuttle service from O. R. Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg to Hoedspruit, where iLala Safaris organizes transport for you to get to the camp.

It is as well possible to book a domestic flight directly to Hoedspruit Airport, wherefrom iLala Safaris will organize a transport for you to get to the camp.

Cancellation Policy

  • A reservation requires a deposit of 50% of the total price.
  • The deposit is non-refundable, if the booking is cancelled.
  • The rest of the payment should be paid 30 days before arrival.
