Accommodation

You will be accommodated at Avatar Amazon Lodge on the first three nights and at Golden Star Hotel in Iquitos on the last three nights.

Program

Day 1, Tuesday

Transfer from the airport to the city of Iquitos where you will receive a small description of the city on your way to the pier to start your journey (at about 9:00 a.m.). Boat ride along the Nanay River until you reach the majestic Amazon River, the largest in the world, reaching your first stop.

You will visit the Fundo Pedrito, an animal nursery where you will feed fish, piranhas, alligators, turtles, parrots, macaws, anacondas, and you will appreciate the famous Victoria Regia plant. After this, you will arrive at the lodge

Walk to the 26 meters high Mirador from where you can appreciate a wonderful view of the jungle and enjoy the canopy with a circuit of four stations: you will launch by the 150-meter long zipline, suspension bridge, zipline again, and rappel down, having an experience full of adrenaline (the maximum weight allowed is 100 kilograms). You will have lunch at the lodge and then check in.

Then you will have a botanical walk or canoe ride. The professional native guides know all the trails in the area. They will be able to observe typical flora and fauna of the place and tell you the multiple uses that local people give to each plant. At 7:00 p.m. enjoy a delicious dinner and the cozy bar.

A night excursion is planned afterwards. At nightfall you will be guided on a hike or canoe through the mysterious jungle in order to observe the tarantulas, cicadas, spiders, scorpions, praying mantises. You will also distinguish the owl songs and the "ayaymamas" and sounds of the nocturnal animals.

Day 2, Wednesday

You will have an excursion at dawn, at 4:30 a.m., during which you can enjoy the sunrise in this wonderful landscape unique in the world. A bird watching morning walk will take you to observe and know the typical birds of the area in all their splendor. Do not forget your camera and stay silent so as not to scare away the animals. Breakfast will be at 8:00 a.m. Return to the eco-lodge to enjoy a rich breakfast.

After this you will visit the indigenous Yaguas community, one of the 23 native communities of the Amazon River whose settlement very close to the lodge will allow you to enjoy an exhibition of their songs, dances, ways of hunting, and handicrafts. Candies for the children of the community, as well as clothing are well received.

Then you will have an excursion to the Neiser Reserve of free animals. Visit this large and original space where the monkeys will be waiting for fun and to get a bit of your attention. You will also observe macaws, parrots, sloth bears, prehistoric turtle "mata mata", and the much feared anaconda or boa constrictor. Lunch will be at 1:00 p.m. at the lodge.

Afterwards you will take a jungle exploration walk of the La Ceiba de la Selva tree, known by the Indians as Huimba with almost 500 years of age and an imposing height of up to 160 feet and 10 feet in diameter. You will look for Tarzan lianas to have fun for a while, simulating their movements. Dinner will be at 7:00 p.m. Enjoy a delicious dinner and the cozy bar. Legends and stories based on Amazonian mythology will be told by the guides. Overnight at the lodge.

Day 3, Thursday

Breakfast will be at 8:00 a.m. at the lodge. Swimming in the Amazon River located 10 minutes from the eco-lodge is an option for today. Swim in its warm waters and spend some time watching such spectacular and unique landscape.

After this, you can take a mud treatment (in summer) on the banks of the Amazon River. You will find small islands where you can enjoy an excellent bath and mud treatment for the skin in this fabulous natural spa that the jungle has to offer. Do not forget your swimsuit.

The observation of pink and gray dolphins comes next. You will be able to fully appreciate these beautiful dolphins and enjoy their elegance throughout the Amazon River. The bufeo colorado is a very special character in the legends of the jungle. Many women claim to have been seduced sometime by some dolphin turned into a handsome young man. Check out at 12:30 p.m. Lunch will be at 1:00 p.m. at the lodge. At 2:30 p.m. you will transfer back to Iquitos, sailing through the Amazon River. You will overnight at the hotel.

Day 4, Friday

After breakfast at the hotel and a presentation from your guide, you will start the excursion to the south zone of the city in comfortable and safe buses. The adventure begins with a visit to the center of rescue and conservation of the Manati (Trichechus inunguis) species of aquatic mammals in danger of extinction. You will be able to appreciate and interact with this species.

You will then continue with the adventure via land until arriving at the Casa del Ayahuasca, an interpretation center of the healing and medicinal benefits of the Ayahuasca (soga de los espiritos), where the shaman (healer or doctor of the jungle) will give a short explanation.

After an esoteric experience in the house of Ayahuasca and as a final part of your circuit, nothing is more pleasant than visiting the Quistoococha Zoological Park where you can appreciate the different species of flora and fauna of the Amazon, a variety of birds and primates in semi captivity, and enjoy its artificial beach and swim in the lagoon after having enjoyed a delicious regional lunch. Finally, at the end of the afternoon, you begin your return to the city and later transfer to your hotel.

Day 5, Saturday

After breakfast at the hotel, transfer by land to the floating neighborhood and to the place where you will board a boat, thus starting your adventure inside the Peruvian Venice, name under which the floating neighborhood of Belén is known due to the peculiar constructions of the houses on balsa wood which allows them to float during the growing season of the rivers, making their streets navigable.

During the tour, you will learn about the customs of the inhabitants of this area, you will be able to interact with them, and learn more about their customs. After some short explanations from your guide, you begin your return to the hotel for lunch.

In the afternoon, after a short break, you start the city tour which will allow you to know more about the history of the city of Iquitos, visiting its old European-style mansions dating from the rubber era and its cultural museums that graph the processes of development of this small city in the middle of the Peruvian jungle. At the end of the tour return to the hotel.

Day 6, Sunday

After breakfast at the hotel, you will have some free time and then transfer to the airport.
