An excursion to Bardia National Park is a perfect trip in the Nepalese wilderness. The short 4-day trip is filled with amazing wildlife adventure in the sweltering jungles of Bardia National Park. While here, we keep ourselves busy with nature walk, float-safari, bird-watching, and take part in indigenous culture of the jungle’s original inhabitants. Bardia National Park, which is the largest national park in Nepal, is home to many wild species, including rare, and endangered flora and fauna.
During this holiday, you will be staying at Bardia Eco Lodge. The accommodation is simple but comfortably furnished twin cottages. This lodge is a perfect place to live the Bardia experience. Bardia Eco Lodge is an eco-friendly and carbon-neutral wildlife lodge located in a beautiful riverside setting in Bardia National Park in Nepal, very close to the park entrance. A representative from Hi Nepal Travels & Treks will pick you up from the Nepalgunj Airport (KEP). Bardia National Park is only 90 kilometers and two hours’ drive away from Nepalgunj. After checking in to the resort, you take a tour of an authentic Tharu Village. The Tharus are believed to be the original inhabitants of the local jungle area. You will also visit the Bardia National Park visitor center and tour its crocodile farm. Overnight will be in Bardia National Park.
After breakfast, you will embark deep into the woods on foot. You will be accompanied by a nature guide and porter. The steamy jungles of Bardia is home to a number of wild animals including Asian elephant, one horn rhinoceros, spotted deer, hog deer, barking deer, samber, swamp deer, black buck, wild boar, royal Bengal tiger, leopard, golden jackal, striped hyena, and others. There are also towers (Machan) at different places within the jungle where you can wait for unsuspecting wild-lives to pass by. The experienced nature guide will help you track the wildlife. After the jungle tour, you will return back to the resort and enjoy dinner and take part in the traditional Tharu dance.
After breakfast, you will drive for an hour to Chisapani, a village located over the Karnali River. You will embark on the wildlife discovery tour on a safari float which is a pleasant way to experience the rivers and wildlife of western Nepal. You will be accompanied by a trained guide, well suited for maneuvering the river which does not have any rapids. Throughout the journey, you get to admire the beautiful sub-tropical landscape along with the plentiful wildlife. Catching glimpses of wild animals quenching their thirst in the vast Karnali River will be an amazing experience! If you must know you would not be the only ones floating in the Karnali River as the river is home to endangered Gharial crocodile, marsh mugger, and Gangetic dolphins. Furthermore, this trip is also good for bird-watching as there are quite a number of resident and migratory birds in the Bardia National Park. You will end the day with another Tharu cultural dance program. Overnight will be in Bardia National Park.
After breakfast, you set forth on an interesting jeep safari. There, you may see deer, langoor monkeys, rhinos, and boars.
You can enjoy a village cultural tour and experience true Tharu culture and lifestyle.
Bardia National Park (968 square kilometers) is home to the endangered royal Bengal tiger and Asian famous one-horned rhinoceros. The national park is located in Bardia District, lying in Far West Nepal and bordered by Karnali river in the west and the Churia range in the north. The Babai River flows right through the park providing wild species with an excellent habitat. The best time to visit the park is during autumn, winter, and early summer when the weather is warm and dry.
The park is situated in Midwestern Nepal. It extends from the lowlands, which contain sal and riveting forests and grasslands, into the Siwalik Hills, which are covered in chir pine and stunted sal. Mammals living in the park include tiger, swamp deer, and the recently introduced Indian rhinoceros. The park is rich in lowland forest; birds include some Western specialties, such as the white-napped woodpecker. The best way to reach the park is via Nepalgung in Banke District. Nepalgung is connected easily accessible by air and road from Kathmandu.
