Program

Day 1: Mombasa (Diani) - Masai Mara by flight

The guide will pick you up from your hotel in the morning and transfer you to the airport for your morning scheduled flight to Masai Mara Game Reserve which takes approximately 2 hours. You will be enjoying the aerial views of the ice-capped peaks of Mount Kilimanjaro in the air with the beautiful views of scenic geological occurrence that includes the sights of the Great Rift Valley with its beautiful lakes.

On arrival at Masai Mara airstrip, you will be met by your host driver guide and transferred to the camp. Experience a game drive en route to the camp. Check in for lunch and later embark on an intensive game drive in the afternoon. Wildlife is abundant in Masai Mara with the chances of spotting the big game almost guaranteed. Return back for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Full day in Masai Mara

After breakfast, enjoy morning and afternoon game viewing in Masai Mara Game Reserve which offers wonderful scenery and plenty of game. It is perhaps the only region left in Kenya where a visitor may see animals in the same super-abundance as existed a century ago.

Explore this part of the Northern Serengeti Ecosystem where the great wildebeest migration takes place. The plain is literally covered with these animals. Grunts and other animal sounds are heard, and territorial fights are commonplace. Soak in the abundance of untamed wilderness, and fresh and natural scenery, filled with exotic wildlife during the expertly guided game drives in open vehicles.

For those interested in a more intimate encounter, Heritage of African Jungles Tours and Travel can arrange a safe and exciting walking safari where you will have a chance to come face to face with nature’s beauty both in flora and fauna.

Renowned for its magnificent Big Cat population that hunts the wildebeest, zebra, and other plains game that dominate the Mara, Masai Mara has even been nicknamed the Kingdom of the Lions. Finding a pride of lions (there are some 400 lions resident in the reserve and neighboring conservancies) is normally relatively easy – and high on most visitors’ must-see lists. Leopards are also seen increasingly often, and good sightings of cheetahs can be expected.

Other predators regularly seen throughout the reserve and conservancies include fascinating spotted hyenas (rarely bothered by human observers and compelling in their social interactions) black-backed and side-striped jackals, and cute pairs of bat-eared foxes.

With luck, you may also see a Serval – a lanky, striped, and spotted cat of tall grass and bush, adept at catching small mammals and birds.

The rear predator of the Maasai Mara, the wild dog, is a beautiful, nomadic pack animal. At one time almost extinct in the region, one or two packs (and what appear to be smaller scouting parties of two or three individuals) are being seen in many areas, though still not on a regular basis. Return to the camp for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Masai Mara - Nairobi (departure)

Early morning breakfast is followed by a final morning game drive in Masai Mara to see the park one last time before departure; as well as also spot some early risers. Later, transfer to the airstrip for your flight scheduled flight to Nairobi where the tour ends.
