Go Volunteer Africa's volunteers enjoy an extremely unique experience not only in the work they do but also in the atmosphere they live in. Volunteers working on the orphanage volunteer project in Nairobi are housed at either the orphanage (GVA has accommodation space for volunteers), the in-country coordinator’s home, host family or volunteers’ house, depending on the interest of the volunteer.

All accommodation environments allow volunteers to meet other travelers and to get to know each other better outside the work-site and forge friendships that will last a lifetime. The accommodations, of course, are clean and comfortable and will quickly become your second home.

The African and Western-style toilet and shower facilities are shared between 4 or 10 people and, while GVA can’t always guarantee the hottest water, the facilities are more than adequate. The accommodation is always equipped with a lounge, TV, kitchen, hand washing facilities, telephones, and spare electricity sockets.

Life at the accommodation facilities is simple, unsophisticated, and fun, perfect for unwinding from a busy day! The hard work volunteers put in during the week undoubtedly warrants some fun and relaxation during the evening free time and on the weekends. During the week, GVA organizes a variety of activities for volunteers in the evenings.

The volunteers often play football (soccer), cards, and board games or chill out around the bar or go out for a dance getting to know one another, from around the world. Musical ballads are known to break out from time to time, as well as the always entertaining pub-quiz nights.

Through this Kenya volunteer program, expect exotic wildlife and ethical volunteer encounters which will leave you with memories to last a lifetime. Sharing your knowledge and skills, helping under-privileged people to achieve better, and bringing smiles to people in need of support makes volunteering in Kenya an intellectually rewarding experience.

Volunteering in Africa is one of the most rewarding, exciting experiences that a volunteer can have. Africa itself is one of the most diverse places on the planet, with everything from deserts to ancient cities to immense and uncharted tropical jungles. As Africa is so vast and varied, it may be hard for you to zero in on exactly where you want to go and what you want to do. With so many choices, this is a struggle that many volunteers experience after deciding to travel to Africa.

Go Volunteer Africa will do two things: give you a basic level of information about volunteering and traveling in Africa and excite you with the knowledge that you are about to serve in a way that is rewarding without bounds for both you and your host community. There are many ways in which Africa is a unique volunteer abroad environment and sadly, it is often overlooked by volunteers deciding to travel to more popular volunteer abroad destinations.

Because of misconceptions about Africa's general level of economic development and the long-lasting and harmful vestiges of colonial expansion, many travelers have skewed ideas about the reality of modern-day Africa. The first thing you must know is that there is no one Africa but thousands of communities that sometimes share only the same continent.

When considering this, you are urged to take a look into the wide scope of diversity that is Africa and find a special community where your hands, and your heart, are needed the most. Volunteer and travel with Africa’s leading and largest volunteer travel organization, Go Volunteer Africa!
