During this safari, you will stay in two different accommodations:
- Night 1 - 3: Camp Bastian Mikumi
- Night 4 - 7: Twisted Palms Lodge
Camp Bastian Mikumi
Camp Bastian Mikumi offers a different type of accommodation to suit all needs. The camp consists of seven chalets in different sizes and a campsite. All the chalets are decorated with locally made furniture and fabrics to keep an authentic atmosphere.
Camp Bastian Mikumi is a unique tourist camp just outside of the Mikumi National Park. The camp offers comfortable accommodation and a warm and friendly atmosphere. This camp is a perfect choice for your tours and safaris in Southern Tanzania or if you just need a peaceful rest while on the road.
Twisted Palms Lodge
Situated right on a beautiful white sand beach on the coast of Indian Ocean. Twisted Palms Lodge and Restaurant offers a quiet, tranquil atmosphere of real African life at the beach. Here you will enjoy clean and comfortable rooms in a typical African standard, excellent food in our restaurant and you can enjoy in the Hill swimming pool garden, swimming in low tide hours, playing beach volleyball, or just relaxing in a small bar.
Free Wi-Fi is available on all property. Additionally, you can enjoy the library, reading, taking or exchanging books, spending evenings on the beach around the bonfire, or joining tours around the island.
At Twisted Palms Lodge, you will find all you need to spend the holiday such as the beach of white sand for walks and a hot shower to cuddle yourself after a swim in the ocean.
Program
Day 1: Mikumi National Park
Pick up at Julius Nyerere International Airport (DAR) and drive to Mikumi National Park with lunch en route. Upon arrival at the accommodation, you can relax and in the late afternoon, visit a Maasai village nearby and learn about the Maasai culture. Go back to the camp for dinner and overnight at Camp Bastian.
Day 2 and 3: Mikumi National Park
Whilst on safari, you can see a rich variety of bird species, as well as large numbers of giraffes, buffalos, and elephants. If you are lucky, you may also be able to spot lions, leopards, and African wild dogs. Likely to be seen animals include zebras, hippos, hartebeests, wildebeests, impalas, warthogs, elands, and antelopes. Several observation towers enable you to overview the park in its entirety. Overnight at Camp Bastian Mikumi.
Day 4: Zanzibar
After breakfast, drive back to Dar Es Salaam and connect to a domestic flight to Zanzibar departing at 16:00, arriving at 16:20. On arrival, transfer to Jambiani and overnight at Fun Beach Hotel or similar on bed and breakfast.
Day 5 to 7: Zanzibar
The beautiful coastline with its palm-fringed beaches creates an image of a forgotten paradise. Here, you can relax on the balmy, tropical shores of the Indian Ocean. In the morning, it may be possible to see some of the local fishermen, in their traditional dhows, bringing in their catch of the day.
Spend your days relaxing on the beach, snorkeling in crystal-clear water, or taking a diving trip at Mnemba Atoll. There are bicycles for hire or several optional excursions can be arranged through the hotel, such as scuba diving, boat excursions, or a spice tour of the island.
You could also opt to visit the nearby turtle sanctuary where injured turtles and other marine animals are cared for until they are well enough to be set free into the wild.
Day 8: After breakfast, transfer to Zanzibar airport for international flight home.
After breakfast, you will be transferred to Zanzibar Airport for international flight home.
Note: You may need to take a short connector flight at additional cost if you fly from Dar Es Salaam.
Location
Mikumi is Tanzania’s fourth-largest national park. The national park is also the most accessible from Dar es Salaam. With almost guaranteed wildlife sightings, the national park makes an ideal safari destination for those without much time.

You will have one lunch en route to Mikumi National Park. At Camp Bastian, you will have three breakfasts, two lunches, and three dinners. You will only have four breakfasts at Twisted Palms Lodge.
