Seize the magnificent beauty of Kilimanjaro! With this package, you will get to the summit of Africa's highest mountain with professional and experienced mountain guides within 6 days. The trek takes you through well-defined altitudinal vegetation zones, from semi-arid scrub to dense cloud forest. The Umbwe Route is steeper and shorter than the Machame Route and once at the Barranco Hut, you will continue the journey with other Machame hikers.
Airport transfer included: Kilimanjaro International Airport
You will be accommodated for 5 nights at several campsites in Mount Kilimanjaro including Umbwe Cave Camp, Barranco Camp, Karanga Camp, Barafu Camp, and Mweka Camp. This package also includes a 2-nights stay at a hotel in Moshi before and after the program.
You will drive from Moshi to Kilimanjaro National Park's Umbwe Gate for about 1 hour. You will then commence the climb through the rainforest with packed lunch on route.
After having breakfast, you will leave the glades of the forest and follow an ascending path on the open moorland to Barranco Camp.
After having breakfast, you will leave Barranco Camp and continue on a steep ridge up the Barranco Wall to the Karanga Valley and the junction which connects with the Mweka Trail.
You will continue the journey up to the Barafu Camp. After completing the South Circuit, which offers views of the summit from many different angles, you will make camp, rest, enjoy dinner, and prepare for the summit day.
In the early morning (midnight to 02:00), you will continue your way to the summit between the Rebmann and Ratzel glaciers. You will head in a northwesterly direction and ascend through heavy scree towards Stella Point on the crater rim. This is the most mentally and physically challenging portion of the trek.
At Stella Point, you will stop for a short rest and will be rewarded with the most magnificent sunrise you are ever likely to see. Faster hikers may view the sunrise from the summit. From Stella Point, you may encounter snow all the way on your 1-hour ascent to the summit. Once at Uhuru Peak, you will have reached the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro and the continent of Africa.
From the summit, you will begin your descent by continuing straight down to the Mweka Camp and stopping at Barafu for lunch. You may want gaiters and trekking poles for the loose gravel going down. After that, you will go to Mweka Camp and enjoy your last evening on the mountain.
After having breakfast, you will continue the descent down to the Mweka Park Gate to receive your summit certificates. At lower elevations, it can be wet and muddy. Gaiters and trekking poles will be helpful.
From the gate, you will continue another hour to Mweka Village. A vehicle will meet you at Mweka Village to drive you back to your hotel in Moshi (about 30 minutes). Don’t forget to tip your guides and porters.
Your trekking will take place on Mount Kilimanjaro located in Tanzania.
Large portions of fresh, healthy, nutritious food will be served for you daily. It includes 5 breakfasts, 5 lunches, and 5 dinners. Clean purified 1.5 liters drinking water will also be provided for you every day.
