On this four-day camping safari, you will visit the three most well-known reserves in north Tanzania namely Tarangire National Park, Ngorongoro Conservation Area, and Serengeti National Park. Unlike the campsites in other parts of Africa, the ones in Tanzania tend not to be fenced and you just need to relax as the experienced guides will look after you and the safari cooks will treat and spoil you with their excellent culinary skills.
Fantastic Safari will accommodate you in private tents in Tarangire National Park, Serengeti National Park, and Ngorongoro Crater.
On this adventure camping safari, you will be immersed in the East African wilderness. You will travel on rough adventurous roads, pass tiny rural settlements, and see fascinating landscapes and abundant wildlife. The attractions included elephants, zebras, hippos, flamingos, jackals, rhinos, elands, many winged creatures, and other species. All your senses will be involved from smelling early morning coffee, experiencing the thrill of a kill to the chill of a morning game drive.
Falling asleep to the hooting of an owl or waking up with the roaring of a lion is what you will experience. The safari experience is all the more intense as you are right in the middle of it all. The nearness to nature, especially at night with its nocturnal sounds, compensates for the luxury of a lodge. The camping safari in Tanzania offers all of this and is therefore perfect for nature lovers and those who are looking for a break from civilization and its comforts. Camping is to experience East Africa’s nature, animals, and cultures in an affordable way.
In the morning, you will be collected from your hotel and drive to Tarangire National Park. The park, which is roughly the size of Luxembourg, covers an area of approximately 2,600 square kilometers. Bush savannah, seasonal marshes, and formidable baobab trees make up the landscape of this nature reserve. The Tarangire National Park is probably one of the best places in East Africa to watch elephants and get very close to the animals. Late in the afternoon, you will leave the park and stay for the night at a campsite.
After breakfast, you will drive to the lush crater uplands where the fertile soil allows crops such as wheat, corn, and coffee grow. You will have lunch at a picnic spot before you slowly drive toward Ngorongoro Crater. On the way, you will pass the Olduvai Gorge where the English couple, Louis and Mary Leak, pioneered archaeological excavation work.
The name Serengeti originated from the Masai word, siringitu, which means endless plains. In the afternoon, you will reach the destination for the day which is the Seronera Valley in the central Serengeti area. You will camp for the night and stay in safari-style tents enjoying a good meal in the middle of the African bush.
After breakfast, you will continue the game drive through the Serengeti National Park. You will sight hundreds of wildebeests, zebras, and often lions and other big cats such as leopards and cheetahs in the Seronera Valley. After lunch at a picnic site, you will drive in the direction of Ngorongoro Crater. As soon as you have reached the edge of the crater, the caldera opens up before you and you will have a remarkable sight over this impressive natural wonder. You will camp for the night on the crater's edge and you will enjoy the fantastic view as the sun goes down.
After an early breakfast at daybreak, you will drive down into the caldera of the crater. Inside the world's biggest caldera, you cannot resist being captivated by the rich and diverse wildlife. On the grass steppe and in the acacia tree woods, you will find almost all species that are found in the East African savannah with the exception of topis, Masai giraffes, and impalas. Quite often, you can observe the Big Five (lions, elephants, buffalos, rhinoceros, and leopards) within a couple of hours. After an extensive wildlife tour and a picnic for lunch, you will leave the caldera in the afternoon and drive back to Arusha.
Notes: The safari vehicle is limited to a maximum of seven passengers.
The tour is run on a full-board basis and meals include 3 breakfasts, 4 lunches, and 3 dinners. Mineral water is also provided, whereas all other beverages (soft drinks and alcohol) are excluded and on your own account. Breakfast can include eggs, sausages or bacon, and toast and jam. Coffee, tea, and hot chocolate are also provided. Lunch boxes are provided for lunch and are enjoyed en route at a picnic spot.
These can contain sandwiches, boiled eggs, and fruits or grilled chicken thighs. Dinner is freshly cooked and the meals consist of meat or fish and some sort of starch (pasta, rice, mashed potatoes, etc.) and vegetables.
