During this safari, you will be accommodated in the reserve's camp bungalows (with en-suite bathrooms) and a bed and breakfast in St. Lucia.

Day 1 - arrive and transfer to Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Game Reserve

You will be collected at your required destination King Shaka International Airport (DUR), the establishment in Durban city or any other such place in the province. You will depart in the morning and drive to the reserve. You will have a guided trip as your guide explains to you the history and other interesting facts of the beautiful area. On arrival at the Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Reserve, you will begin your safari, searching for animals as you make your way to the camp.

Once you check into your accommodation, you will be taken on a sunset game drive. Enjoy the sights and sounds of the African bush, stopping along the banks of the Umfolozi River for sundowners and snacks, then you will be back to the camp. Freshen up before joining your guide around the camp fire whilst a braai (barbecue) dinner is prepared. Hopefully, some night animals will come around for a visit, hyena and bush babies are being regulars.

Day 2 - full day Big 5 safari

It is an early rise as you embark on another game drive, after a hot cup of coffee and tea. You will have early game drives when the sun is just peeking over the savannah is the ideal time to catch the night time predators still moving about.

Depending on the season, this drive is about four hours, but also depends on how much it's being seen. In the mid-drive, you will stop for tea / coffee and snack break just to help those grumbling tummies. Then the drive continues as the sun warms up the bushveld and the day, animals like zebra, giraffe, elephant, and other antelopes begin to move about.

You will return to the camp for a scrumptious brunch, cooked for you by your guide. Then the next few hours are your own to do as you please. Take a walk around the camp and enjoy the birdlife and all the common animals that like to feed on the manicured lawns. Sit and enjoy the views or even have a small 'siesta'. Then once again enjoy an afternoon game drive, hoping to keep adding to your now ever-increasing game viewing list.

Enjoy another beautiful sunset and then some more campfire stories and a traditional South African meal. Look upwards to the stars, the lack of artificial light lends itself to amazing star gazing and your guide will help you to identify the various constellations.

Day 3 - final game drive and St. Lucia estuary experience

You will wake early again to the smell of fresh coffee and off on your final game drive, your guide will be intent on finding what is left to see. You will return to your camp for breakfast before packing your bags and checking out. Have a final hour or so in the reserve as you make your way to the exit gate and depart at around midday.

You will drive across to the St. Lucia Wetland and estuary, home to the largest population of hippo and Nile crocodile in Africa. After checking into your accommodation, you will enjoy a two-hour boat cruise on the estuary and up into the reserve. Expect to see the hippo and crocodile, with a myriad of bird species, as well as antelope, and other animals. You will return as the sun sets and enjoy a dinner out in the quaint little town of St. Lucia (own account).

Day 4 - final day

Today’s start will not be as early but still earlier enough as you enter the iSimangaliso Reserve and make your way towards the beach paradise of Cape Vidal. It has beautiful views and 100 of birds to spot are the hallmarks of this place, along with four of the Big Five to see. Cape Vidal beach is unspoiled paradise, with amazing snorkeling and hiking to indulge in. Enjoy a picnic lunch, but just watch out the endangered Samango monkeys, don't let them steal it! After exiting the park, you will then leave St. Lucia and make your way back to Durban where your guide will drop you at your required destination.
