Day 1: Transfer From Entebbe / hotel
On this day, you will be picked up and transferred to Fort Portal, the foothills of the Rwenzori. There, you will have chances to visit the crater lakes and hike as you prepare for a trek.
Day 2: From Ibanda to Omu’ka Kizza Rest Camp (2,977 m)
After breakfast at your hotel / campsite from Ibanda or Nyakalenjija, the trekking will start through the pristine rainforest of Kyambogho Ridge with a view of the Mubuku Valley. Then, climb the heavily forested ridge which is home to many primates, such as black and white colobus monkey, blue monkey, and occasionally the L’hoest’s monkey.
Up the Omu’ka Kizza Rest Camp at 2,977 meters, you will enjoy magnificent views over the Rwenzori foothills and Kasese town 2,160 meters below. During this part of the trip, you may hear chimpanzees and see black-and-white colobus, blue monkey, and the brilliantly colored Rwenzori turaco. The camp will be a camping site in the wilderness.
Day 3: From Omu’ka Kizza Rest Camp To Mahoma Lake
Early morning after breakfast, you will hike to Mahoma Lake. The forest will give you a way towards a long narrow moss-covered ridge up to 3,515 meters and through an incredibly beautiful forest of giant heather covered in layers of bright green moss.
You will follow the footprints of mountain elephants through the bamboo and heather forest; and you may get the chance to watch them having a drink at the hot spring. The ridge will also lead you to the Rukenga Valley, where you will see the everlasting flowers (mimulopsis eliotti) and the giant lobelia.
You will then cross to the Mahoma Lake Camp for overnight. If the sky is clear that day, from the camp, you may be able to see Mt. Baker, Mt. Stanley, and the Portal Peaks.
Day 4: From Mahoma to Ibanda - Night in Queen Elizabeth
After breakfast, you may go for a walk around the lake and then descend back through the Nyaibitaba ranger post and the Mpanga Ridge to adjoin the Mubuku Valley, home of the three-horned chameleon and which will lead you back to Ibanda.
Day 5: Relax at Kazinga Channel
The Kazinga Channel is a natural link, where lakes Edward and George are in an eternal handshake. After this break, you can proceed to the airport or your next destination.
