You will stay at Eka Hotel, Naivasha Sopa Lodge, and Masai Mara Sopa Lodge.

Eka Hotel

Eka Hotel is ideally located along Mombasa Road in Nairobi the capital city of Kenya. It is situated minutes away from the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, five kilometers from Wilson Airport (WIL) and five kilometers from the bustling central business district. The hotel rooms offer the very best in comfort, convenience, and efficiency.

Each air-conditioned room is equipped with a flat-screen TV with satellite connection, plug-and-play panels, direct-dial international telephone, complimentary high-speed internet access, mini bar, electronic personal safety deposit box, complimentary tea and coffee-making facilities, and hair dryers that are available upon request.

Lake Naivasha Sopa Resort

Set in one hundred and fifty acres of grassland studded with Acacia bushes and trees, the resort is not only home to the resident giraffe, waterbuck, and both Vervet and Colobus monkeys, but it is also a night stop for the hippos when they leave the lake every night to come and trim the grass on the expansive lawns. With Sopa’s traditional and conscientious care for the environment, the buildings are carefully positioned on the property so not many trees have been cut.

As a result, the resort had to come up with a radically innovative and artistic design for the main public area building which now snakes its way between the trees with long and graceful curves.

Masai Mara Sopa Lodge

Located high on the slopes of the Oloolaimutia Hills, Masai Mara Sopa Lodge was one of the first safari lodges to be built in the Maasai Mara Game Reserve, a reason why its gardens and trees are so lush and mature. All the buildings follow the design of traditional African round houses with conical roofs which stretch along the line of the hills with the impressively large public area buildings and the swimming pool at their center.

Facilities of the lodge include adjoining rooms, gift shop, special diets, babysitting, hairdryers, sundowners, balloon safaris, handicraft market, swimming pool, bird watching, honeymoon suite, telephone at reception, board games, laundry, traditional dances, children’s menu, mosquito nets, turndown service, conferences, nature walks, weddings, flying safaris, outdoor dining.

Day 1 - Nairobi

You will be transferred from the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to the Eka Hotel where you will spend your first night. After lunch, you are welcome to visit the David Sheldrick elephant orphanage at the Nairobi Game Park headquarters. The elephants are fed from 11:00 to noon. You can also visit other endangered animals like the black rhino and the giraffe center.

Day 2 - Lake Naivasha

You will be transferred from the Eka Hotel to Lake Naivasha Sopa Lodge where you will spend your second day and night. Set in one-hundred and fifty acres of grassland studded with Acacia bushes and trees, the resort is not only home to the resident giraffe, waterbuck, and Vervet and Colobus monkeys, but also a night stop for the hippos when they leave the lake every night to come and trim the grass on the expansive lawns.

On the way to the lodge, you will stop at the Great Rift Valley to admire the scenery as they make their way through rural Kenya onto the Rift Valley, an area boasting of quaint little villages which dot the traditional African landscape.

Day 3 - 4 - Masai Mara Game Reserve

You will be transferred from Lake Naivasha to the Masai Mara Sopa Lodge where you will spend the next two nights. Located high on the slopes of the Oloolaimutia Hills, Masai Mara Sopa Lodge was one of the first safari lodges to be built in the Maasai Mara Game Reserve, a reason why its gardens and trees are so lush and mature. After enjoying a cup of hot Kenyan tea and coffee, get ready in the morning for an exciting early morning game viewing adventure.

You'll be back in time for breakfast and then have time at leisure. You will be at leisure on mid-morning and you can choose to visit local Masai village at an extra cost.

  • Game viewing at Masai Mara Game Reserve

This trip takes place in Nairobi, Lake Naivasha and Maasai Mara National Reserve in South Africa.

Lake Naivasha

Lake Naivasha is at the highest elevation of the Kenyan Rift valley at 1,884 meters (6,181 feet) in a complex geological combination of volcanic rocks and sedimentary deposits from a larger Pleistocene era lake. Apart from transient streams, the lake is fed by the perennial Malewa and Gilgil rivers. There is no visible outlet, but since the lake water is relatively fresh, it is assumed to have an underground outflow.

Maasai Mara National Reserve

Maasai Mara (Masai Mara) is situated in southwest Kenya and is one of Africa’s Greatest Wildlife Reserves. Together with the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania, it forms Africa’s most diverse, incredible, and most spectacular ecosystems and possibly, the world’s top safari big game viewing eco-system. Maasai Mara National Reserve stretches 1,510 square kilometers (580 square miles) and rises 1,500 to 2,170 meters above sea level.

Adding the conservancies, the area is at least twice the size. It hosts over 95 species of mammals and over 570 recorded species of birds. This is the World Cup of Wildlife, and together with the Serengeti National Park, there is no better place to witness the best wildlife viewing.

"Hey Lyn. We returned from our fabulous Southern Africa trip and want to thank you for your help in arranging our stay at the African Rock and And Beyond Ngala Safari Lodge. African Rock was so very welcoming and the perfect place to begin our visit to Africa. We loved the people and our dinner was one of the best we had in all of Africa. Ngala was amazing! We saw it all and loved the people there as well."

"Again thank you and the Wares and the Bells will call on you again. Enjoying the news letter."

"Hi Chelse- just a note to tell you what a fabulous time we had at Pumba. Thanks so much for your help! PS- one more thing… Do you know the type of coffee makers they have in the chalets? I think it made a great cup of coffee and would like to get one for my home."

    "Hi Lynn"

"Sorry it’s taken me so long to respond! We had such an amazing time – I’ve been recommending South Africa and East Cape Tours to everyone I know! Your recommendations were spot on and everything went really well. Everyone we met and interacted with was entirely gracious, friendly and helpful and our hosts gave us great recommendations for restaurants and things to do, particularly Sharon at Redbourne Hilldrop. We couldn’t be happier with our once-in-a-lifetime safari vacation and we’re already dreaming about visiting beautiful SA again in the future."

"The only change I would have made is to our reservation at Woodall. The properly was lovely as was the service, however the dinner was a fixed menu and very expensive in comparison to elsewhere (for a nice meal but not the best we had given price). The transfers to/from Addo were also very expensive and not divulged to us ahead of time by the hotel so it was a surprise come checkout time (I think we paid close to R800 for a round-trip to Addo which was only a 15 minute drive). Unfortunately because we had already returned the car we didn’t have another option for transportation and were not able to go to another restaurant so we felt a bit stranded. Something you may want to consider for future guests you book into the hotel."

"That being said the rest of our trip was very reasonable given the fantastic quality in food, atmosphere and service we experienced and we couldn’t have asked for a better trip overall. I tagged East Cape in some Instagram photos and I hear they may be used in your next newsletter! Thanks again for all of your help."

"I wanted to send you a note to thank you and your team so much for making our trip the East Cape in October so completely magical. After having taken that incredible trip with our Aussie friends in 2015, was expecting that our shorter trip booked “last minute” would not have the same level of “adventure” or expansiveness. It ended up being a wonderful trip and completely exceeded expectations. Wanted to give you my thoughts on the itinerary and the lodges we visited."

"We started at Pumba, then moved to Kichaka and ended up at Addo reserve at Camp Figtree. All of these lodges were wonderful. Great accommodations, excellent food, friendly staff and lots of animals. If I was scheduling this again, I would have done Addo first. While we were able to see quite a few elephants and they had a great water hole, after the other two camps, the game viewing was less exciting. It would have made a perfect first camp! Camp Figtree was really a treat, loved being up in the mountains and the lodge was really interesting, having a few less amenities because of its location gave it a charm and feeling of days gone by! Good for a couple of nights though a longer stay may not have been as good as you are really fairly isolated up there!"

"Pumba was a wonderful camp, I believe we were originally scheduled to be the Water Lodge but were changed last minute to the Bush Lodge. I thought the Bush Lodge was great but if I was staying again I would request the Water Lodge. One of the things I missed from our last safari was the ability to sit around the campfire at night or early in the morning and the water lodge had the nice fire pit which I think made it a little more social! We did go over there one afternoon for the spa which was wonderful. The monkeys were just little devils at the Bush Lodge!! But very fun to watch! The animals were very good at Pumba. We had some great experiences with the lions (the white ones were beautiful) and we were able to get very close to these three Cheetah brothers as they walked down the road, feasted on a kill etc. The landscape there was really interesting as well with hills and plains and there was lots to see."

"Kichaka was next and I think both Adrianne and I felt it was absolutely our favorite experience of the three. Loved the cabins, feeling like we were in the tree tops, the main lodge was very inviting right on the water hole. Great good. Best food for trying local game (they had Ostrich Wellington!). What we liked the best were the game drives. Our ranger took us out literally for 3/12 to 4 hours twice a day. There weren’t quite as many animals as Pumba and the terrain was different but we were able to go off road whenever it made sense so we could actually get close to things. Saw some amazing things. It felt more like we were tracking animals, looking at prints and doing more seeking out versus just driving on a path and seeing what was there to see."

"All three were fabulous in their own way! Really appreciate the great service from your team and so nice to be picked up and taken from one destination to another and to the airport. Took all of that anxiety of transportation away and let us just enjoy the adventure!"

"We had a fantastic trip. I really would like to thank you for all your wonderful help along the way. It was invaluable and nothing was too much trouble. This resulted in a wonderful self-drive trip through South Africa, Swaziland and Zimbabwe before heading onto Botswana. With your help we were well prepared and had an amazing experience. I really appreciated your prompt response to all my questions and the numerous changes we made along the way. Once again thank you so much. We would definitely seek out your help again and have no hesitation to recommend you to anyone."

"Everything went smoothly with our complicated booking when we were dealing sith Karen Engelbrecht, who was amazingly helpful. She even returned one of my calls while she was out of the office on Family leave. The only problem occurred when the travel vouchers were issued as they were incorrect. This problem was resolved by my phoning the office in PE and having the correct vouchers issued. I would be happy to deal with East Cape Tours again."

"We won’t hesitate to give 5 stars to East Cape Tours, you’ve certainly earned them. We arranged our own tour from Denmark to Cape Town, before we contacted East Cape Tours for a short safari. You responded quickly, and make quick adjustments to our special wishes. Everything was taken care of; flights, airport shuttles, accomodation; and I learned that you could have handled the whole tour from Denmark and back; but I’ll remember that for later! It’s no problem being the family’s tour guide, with you as supporters!"

"If (when) we visit South Africa again, you will certainly hear from us!"

"I just wanted to write to you to say thank you to your team for the most amazing three-week holiday that was organized for us. Firstly, Helga created a perfect itinerary. Everything went smoothly, every small detail was organized and waiting for us, each accommodation destination was unique and the service and standard could not be faulted. We would never have been able to pick such amazing accommodation and experiences ourselves. It didn’t stop there, though. Once we arrived in South Africa, Shannon made contact with us to advise us she was our new contact. We had a few questions and bits and pieces that we needed assistance with along the way and nothing was ever a hassle. She was prompt and sorted everything for us. It gave us such peace of mind to have that local support while we were in the country. The whole trip was a highlight but if we had to pick our two favorites it would be Cape Town and our stunning accommodation in De Waterkant Village and our stay at Pumba Water Lodge. My husband, two kids (seven and 12) and I have returned home with a smile on our face and the best experience of such a beautiful country and it would not have been possible without the foundation that was laid by East Cape Tours. We still have so much to see and explore the stunning country of South Africa. We will be back and we will be booking with East Cape Tours!"

"I want to thank you both for this unforgettable vacation. The stay in luxury apartments, Cape Town, was amazing. excellent place and location. as for the other hotels on our way to the reserve, each one of them has, it’s own charm and yet all of them had great service, welcoming staff and tasty food. But the best was for last with Pumba game reserve. We had the best days of our lives, good mood, and good food. My family and I, we appreciate everything you did for us to make our vacation in South Africa unforgettable. I would definitely go back and for sure recommend you to everyone I know who wants to visit your beautiful country. Just one more thing, concerning the white shark dive, it didn’t happen due to bad weather and I was wondering how the refund will be done."

"Thank you for all your help everything turned out perfect. Ebrahim was super I’d highly recommend him to anyone traveling to Cape Town. Ismail was also excellent. We met Robert More at The More Quarters one morning he was extremely nice thought he might be at Lion Sands when we were there but left us a special message because he left the day we arrived and a book signed by him his great grandfather wrote. The staff at More Quarters were so friendly we loved our room and the hotel itself. Mont Rochelle is probably the most beautiful place we have ever been. Loved Franschhoek, The vineyards, and wineries were magnificent. Could have spent more time there. The Lion Sands River Lodge was absolutely beautiful the staff was great and we had the best range in Neil and tracker Albert. Made friends with two couples we did our safaris with. Trip of a lifetime all we can do is pray we can go back some day. If we know anyone who is interested we will definitely refer you. Thank you again."

"We have just returned from our travels in Africa. Shamwari was brilliant! Beautiful place and we were fortunate to have Jessica as our ranger and her knowledge of animals, birds, plants and the environment was amazing! We have had quite a few very good rangers take us on game drives on this trip and our previous trips, but Jessica stands out as the best! The highlight of our two months in Africa was Christmas day at Shamwari where we were able to experience a private escorted walk around the outside of the enclosures of the Born Free lions and lionesses, leopards, and cheetahs! As a Born Free Foundation supporter for many years it was the perfect Christmas present on the best Christmas day ever!"
