You will visit the Kandt Museum, see old Kigali and the craft centers, then visit the genocide memorial site. You will also learn about Rwanda’s history from pre-colonial times to the 1994 genocide, about other genocides in the world, and how this country has dealt with that past. Tour more and see the new developments in Rwanda. You will see that the recovery has been incredible, a testament to humankind’s resilience.

You will have lunch in Kigali. Later, you will depart Kigali and drive to Ruhengeri. After approximately two and a half hours arriving in the early evening at the Volcanoes National Park headquarters, you will come to Best View Hotel for your overnight stay. Breakfast and lunch are included.

Day 3 - Gorilla trekking in Volcanoes and Lake Kivu

You will begin your day with a breakfast at the lodge. At 07:00, registration is a simple process where the park staff determines which group of gorillas you will visit. The park staff will discuss your fitness level and advise you of the trekking times and conditions to the various groups based upon your location in the park the previous evening.

Once you are put into groups, each group’s lead guide will brief the trekkers of the trekking procedures as well as the "do’s and do not's" while in the presence of gorillas. After the briefing, you will return to your respective vehicles for the drive up the mountain to the starting point. The guides stop frequently to allow you a chance to rest and take photos along the way.

After the trek, you will rejoin your driver guide for a transfer to your lodge for lunch. After lunch, you will depart from foothills of the volcanoes and drive to Lake Kivu Serena, arriving in the evening. You will spend your afternoon at leisure to enjoy optional activities offered at an extra cost. Breakfast and lunch are included.
