East Cape Tours Uganda Safari Itinerary

Day 1 - Arrival

Upon arrival at the airport, you will be warmly welcomed by the guide who will then transport you to the Forest Cottages for an overnight stay and dinner.

Day 2 - Bwindi

The guide and driver will pick you at 07:30 from your hotel or place of residence in Entebbe or Kampala. You will be driven to Mbarara (283 kilometers from Kampala) via Masaka. You will make the first stop over at the Equator crossing for snacks and photography. You will visit Igongo Cultural village where you will have a more rewarding and amazing experience at the Ankole museum.

Lunch break is at Agip Motel Mbarara. After lunch, you will head to Bwindi, the lushest highland rain forest on earth, filled with primates and exotic birds, valleys, hilltops, and papyrus swamps. You'll have dinner and stay overnight at Buhoma community Bandas or Wagtail Eco Camp.

Day 3 - Gorilla trekking at Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Begin the day with breakfast and get ready for trekking which begins with a briefing from the Uganda Wildlife Authority staff. The guides will lead you inside the jungle to see the shy primates for a group you have been booked for. Do not forget to take your lunch boxes and all the necessary gear to track the rare mountain gorilla, perhaps one of the most exciting wildlife experiences on earth.

The tracking may take between two and six hours but it’s well worth the effort. The afternoon is spent on a village walk. The Buhoma Village walk gives you a great opportunity to see the people surrounding Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. The walk, which begins with your guide at Buhoma Community Rest Camp, is most informative and rewarding. You'll have dinner and stay overnight at Buhoma community Bandas or Wagtail Eco Camp.

Day 4 - Departure

After your morning breakfast, drive back to Kampala using Kasese-Fort Portal road via Queen Elizabeth National Park for en route game viewing. You may spot the elephants, antelopes, and warthogs. You will have a stopover at the Equator line in Kasese for some souvenir pictures. Enjoy the winding scenery of the foothills of Mount Rwenzori before arriving in Fort Portal for lunch. Continue your trip to Kampala or Entebbe to catch up with your outbound flight back home or to your next destination.

Location

This trip takes place in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in Bwindi, Uganda.

Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park lies in Southwestern Uganda on the edge of the Rift Valley. Its mist-covered hillsides are blanketed by one of Uganda’s oldest and most diverse rainforests, which dates back over 25,000 years and contains almost 400 species of plants.

The forest also protects an estimate of 320 mountain gorillas, roughly half of the world’s population, including several habituated gorilla groups. This biologically diverse region also provides shelter to120 more mammals, including baboons, chimpanzees, elephants, and antelopes. There are also some species of birds hosted in this forest, including 23 Albertine Rift endemics.

The neighboring towns of Buhoma and Nkuringo have an impressive array of luxury lodges, rustic bandas, and budget campsites, restaurants, craft stalls, and guiding services. Opportunities abound to discover the local Bakiga and Batwa Pygmy cultures through performances, workshops, and village walks.
