Program

Day 1

At 07:30, you will depart from your Victoria Falls Hotel or Livingstone for Chobe National Park. This is a one-hour drive that should bring you to the Botswana border at about 08:30. You will meet your Botswana guide at the border. After border formalities and a briefing on pertinent facts, such as safety and some regional information, you will go to the Chobe River jetty.

At 09:30, you board the boat and commence a three-hour boat game cruise into the Chobe National Park. The river cruise is considered one of the highlights of the trip, as one gets the opportunity to get up close and personal with fantastic birdlife, hippos, crocodiles, and of course scores of elephant and African buffalo that make their way down to the river for the water. The boat cruise ends at 12:30 and a sumptuous buffet lunch follows at the Chobe Safari Lodge (or similar).

There is an opportunity to do some last minute shopping in Kasane, as there are no shops within the park. An afternoon game drive follows and this is the best time to see Chobe’s large herbivores making their way to and from the river to drink. And this drive will take you to the camp shortly before sunset for drinks around the campfire and dinner.

Day 2

Rise and shine. Your early wake-up will be followed by a cup of hot and refreshing tea and / or coffee. After a quick continental breakfast, you will head off on an early morning game drive. This time of day is best for finding the big cats or and other nocturnals as they are still active and hunting and, with luck on your side, you may even find them on their previous nights’ kills. Around mid to late morning, you will return to the camp for a delicious “bush brunch” and an opportunity to take a refreshing bush bucket shower.

When the day starts to cool off, another afternoon game drive follows after tea, and good sightings are revisited or areas as yet unexplored are visited. Chobe National Park has a wide variety of game - the cats and large herbivores such as elephant and African buffalo being a highlight, but rarer games such as puku, eland, sable, and roan antelope among others can be encountered here. You will return to the camp after sunset for a reflective fireside chat. There will be dinner, as always, accompanied by the unforgettable sounds of the African night.

Day 3

After another dawn awakening, a quick cup of tea or coffee, and some cereal, you will head off on another early morning game drive. This time of day again is the best for finding the big cats, you will try to track those distress calls and the predators’ victory celebration sounds that troubled you the previous night and chances of encountering the troublemakers are not uncommon.

Around mid to late morning, you will return to the camp for a delicious “bush brunch” and an opportunity to take a refreshing shower. When it starts cooling off, you will pack up, break camp, and leave the camp on the last game drive. Guests will be dropped off in Kasane at 16:30 (for the guests staying in Botswana) or in Victoria Falls or Livingstone at 18:00.

Location

This safari will take place in Chobe National Park, Botswana. Chobe National Park consists of 11,700 square kilometers of pristine wilderness, bordered in the north by the glorious Chobe River. All angles are protected by wildlife management areas and forest reserves allowing for the free movement of wildlife.

Chobe National Park is one of the best wilderness reserves in the world and is home to the largest concentration of elephant in the region. Throughout the year, herds of buffalo and elephant can be seen drinking at the river’s edge with their numbers rising into hundreds and thousands during the dry season. This is the only park where one has a realist chance of encountering lions and an incredible variety of other wildlife species on a one day trip.

The river cruise is considered one of the highlights of the trip, as one gets the opportunity to get up close and personal with fantastic birdlife, hippos, crocodiles, and of course scores of elephant and African buffalo that make their way down to the river for the water.
