Program

Day 1: Windhoek to Sossusvlei

You will travel southwards, journeying through the Kalahari Desert that extends onto the eastern side of Namibia. You will have stopovers in small towns along the way, these include Rehoboth, the traditional home of the Baster people and Kalkrand.

You will have a wonderful experience in the Kalahari Desert as it is different and unique from any other desert that you may know, this is because of its ability to upkeep its flora and fauna. You will be allowed to have a good time close to the waterhole where you can look out for a diversity of game as they come to drink water. If you like you can even go for a game drive in search of animals. Overnight stay will be at the Sossusvlei Desert Lodge. You will be served lunch and dinner on this day.

Day 2: Fish River Canyon

You will wake up early in the morning to join a nature drive into Kalahari before departing for the town of Mariental and then further south to Keetmanshoop. On the outskirt of the town, you have the chance of exploring the Mesosaurus Fossil Site and Quiver Tree Forest where you can admire the oddest plants.

You will have a relaxing break around the Ai-Ais Hot Springs Spa and Resort, located in the southern end of the Fish River Canyon, it qualifies to be an excellent place to relax in and around the thermal baths and heated swimming pool, particularly after a hot and dusty day out. Overnight stay will be at Fish River Lodge. You will be served breakfast, lunch, and dinner on this day.

Day 3: Fish River Canyon

Marvel your encounter with the Fish River Canyon which is spectacular because of its sheer size. To make the river more magnificent there are gigantic rocks formed as a result of water erosion. It is estimated that the river is about 160-kilometers long, 27-kilometers wide, and 550-meters deep.

An early sleep is advised as you will be preparing to proceed with your journey to reach Aus, the next morning. Overnight stay will be at Fish River Lodge. You will be served breakfast and lunch on this day. Dinner will be at your own expense tonight.

Day 4: Ghost town and wild horses

You will rise up early in the morning for a short drive to Luderitz, in hope of meeting the unique Namib wild horses (not guaranteed). You will be in Luderitz in time to join a voluntary additional expedition to the 'The Sedina', the old wooden sailing ship that cruises around the bay and also to Halifax Island where you will have a great time with the Jackass penguins.

Just after the Sedina trip you will drive out to Kolmanskop (this is an additional optional activity), a ghost town desert which is about 20-kilometers away from Luderitz. Later in the afternoon, you will then return to Klein Aus Vista. Overnight stay will be at Klein Aus Desert Horse Inn. You will be offered breakfast on this day.

Day 5: Ghost town and wild horses

Today, you will proceed with your journey to venture deep into the ancient southern Namib passing by some small rural communities. The setup has been termed punitive and sometimes hostile. Erosion in these areas is well radical therefore you will pass by 'kopjes', the arid terrain and outcrops of tortured rock.

Further exploring this dreary yet attractive landscape, the topography starts to look different, and you will pass farmlands prior to entering the enormous red sand dune desert of the Namib. The objective will be to arrive at your lodge late in the afternoon so that you can have the chance to witness the color glow and change of the eastern mountains at a distance. Overnight stay will be at Klein Aus Desert Horse Inn. You will be served breakfast, lunch, and dinner on this day.

Day 6: Sossusvlei

A pre-dawn start is essential this morning to catch the soft light of the sunrise on the desert. After passing through Sesriem, the gateway to the dunes and driving into the heart of the dune field, you will reach Sossusvlei by walking the last five-kilometers through the dunes. The walk is like nothing else, in the cool of the morning witness the soft sunlight, just beginning to play over the dunes, creating a sharp light and shadow contrast across the whole desert!

Ancient mineral pans, stunted camel thorn trees, and the chance of seeing a gemsbok or maybe an ostrich makes for a perfect photo opportunity. You will spend the morning in and around Sossusvlei, also visiting Dune 45, and as the day wears on you will return to Sesriem for lunch to escape the heat of the afternoon. Overnight stay will be at Hoodia Desert Lodge. You will be served breakfast, lunch, and dinner on this day.

Day 7: Departure to Windhoek

Soon after breakfast you will depart passing right over the mountains and along the picturesque roads, back to the capital city. You will journey above the Naukluft Mountains as well as the Khomas Hochland Range. You will be dropped at any hotel or lodge located in Windhoek. You will be served breakfast and lunch on this day.
