    Day 1

Your Kruger National Park safari begins with collections from Johannesburg town and the airport. Kruger National Park is South Africa’s premier game reserve and it is located in the subtropical savannahs’ of the low veld and provides ideal conditions for wildlife. The park is surrounded by private nature reserves and many of them have removed fences allowing wildlife to roam between the main park and the private game reserves. This whole area is known as the Greater Kruger and is ideal for safaris. Your first game drive is in the private reserve of Balule. Your drive continues into the evening and you'll have an opportunity to view nocturnal animals using spotlights. All game drives are conducted in open 4x4 vehicles. A traditional braai barbecue is enjoyed under the stars deep in the African bush. The night is spent at a comfortable lodge. Note that the Balule Game Reserve is a Big five reserve and is connected to the Kruger National Park. All fences have been removed to allow for the free roaming of animals.

The included meal of the day is dinner.

    Day 2

An exciting day awaits you. You'll depart early morning on a game drive into the African bush where you will do a three to four-hour bush walk. The bush walk is led by an armed knowledgeable ranger and you'll learn about the bush, including spoor / tracks, birds, plants, and smaller animals. Enjoy the thrill of stalking large wildlife on foot. You'll return to the lodge for brunch and a well-deserved rest. In the afternoon you'll board for your game viewing vehicle and head out for a game drive. After a full day, you'll make your way to your camp where you'll have dinner.

The evening is spent in comfortable permanent tents which are located on a nature conservancy. The tents are fully equipped and are a popular option for clients on a budget. The camp is located in the Motlala Game Reserve which is home to a range of animals including black and white rhino, buffalo, giraffe, and numerous antelope species.

The included meals are brunch and dinner.

    Day 3

After an early morning breakfast you'll board for your special game viewing vehicle. The vehicles are open and allow for excellent viewing. You'll enter the Kruger National Park through Orpen Gate, located in the central area of the park. This part of the reserve is ideal for wildlife viewing and has the highest concentration of animals. One can expect to see large herds of elephants, zebras, antelope as well as giraffes, rhinos, and predators including lions, cheetahs, and leopards and enjoy amazing photographic opportunities. You'll take a welcome break and lunch at one of the rest camps before continuing your game drive. After an exciting day of wildlife viewing, you'll return to the tree house for a welcome rest.

The included meals are breakfast and dinner

    Day 4

After breakfast you'll be transferred to the popular Moholoholo animal orphanage. The orphanage is home to many animals including some that have been injured through snares, vehicles, or fences. One has the opportunity to get up close to the animals, including lions, leopards, and hyenas. In the afternoon you'll head to a different private reserve where you'll have an opportunity to spot the Big five.

    Day 5

Your day begins with a short nature walk where you'll have a chance to get more detail about the bush. You'll be accompanied by an armed ranger as there is a good chance of encountering various animals. After breakfast you'll begin your journey back to Johannesburg. En route you'll stop at the scenic Blyde River Canyon and at the view of the “Three Rondawels”. Your tour ends in the late afternoon.

"Me and my girlfriend booked a trip through this company in March 2016. We knew approximately what we wanted to see but we got a lot of inspiration from the web page of Detour SA. We talked a lot to Elana and she was always quick in answering all our questions. We booked and paid 25 percent in advance. We booked a six day trip in Kruger and also some day tours in Cape Town. After all our trips we can summarize by saying that all our expectation has been fulfilled. The prices are amazing and the itinerary that was booked has been 100% correct. We highly recommend this company and when we go to south part of Africa again (Botswana-Namibia?) they will be our travel agent again for sure."

"Elana at Detour Africa came highly recommended to me by a friend who was using Detour to book her Southern Africa adventure. I contacted Elana to book a similar tour for my two friends and I. Over the course of almost a year we exchanged numerous e-mails. Elana patiently and thoroughly answered all of our questions, helped us select and book the perfect tour, walked us through the payment procedure, recommended hotels in Cape Town, and kept us informed of any changes. She was quick to respond to our queries and a pleasure to deal with. Good work Elana! Also, a big shout out to Detour Africa for their very informative website. The toll-free numbers are a bonus also. Their office is well located in Cape Town and convenient to many hotels in the downtown business district. I have no hesitation in recommending Elana and Detour Africa to anyone considering a trip to southern Africa."

"I'm just back from an absolutely awesome three week road trip from Johannesburg to Cape Town. The only word for it is PERFECT. I just loved every minute of it."

"I booked it through Detour, who I'd actually never heard of before. Louise put me at ease right away. She replied promptly to my questions and was always very positive, helpful and friendly. She just seemed to be really on the ball. I knew it would all work out great...and it did. Louise saw to booking an airport transfer for me and my first night's accommodation as well as the trip itself. She was there every step of the way for me...even in the office in Long Street after the trip with other ideas of how to make the most of my remaining time in Cape Town. I know I'll be back for another overland trip ending in CT and without hesitation I'll go through Detour for the trip, transfers and shark diving too...Detour all the way. Thank you so much for helping me live my dream. South Africa is in my heart forever."

"We had pre booked an open vehicle safari to Pilannesburg through Detour Africa. An excellent experience as all the procedures were taken care of very efficiently and Elana patiently guided us through all the details. We spotted some very good game on this safari and our guide J was really informative. Elana Black especially ensured we were well taken care of and she was extremely friendly and helpful. She also accommodated a last minute change in plan request and I was very impressed with her professionalism. Once again, thank you Elana :) I would definitely recommend booking via Detour Africa."

"I went on a 3-day safari that Louise put together for me and had a fantastic time. I couldn't speak more highly about it. My only regret was that I couldn't stay for longer. I was looking last minute and Louise was able to book me on a 3-day trip through Viva Safaris. They greeted me at the airport and took our group directly to Kruger. I was worried because I was late getting off my plane and through customs, so I quickly emailed Louise about my delay and she was kind (and quick!) enough to call Viva and communicate my delay. It was such a relief and great peace of mind to know that she had taken care of it for me. Excellent service. The safari itself was fantastic and the staff at all of the camps were very accommodating. Had a blast!"

"we did the 2D1N tented safari tour at Pilanesburg. our guide 'Braham' was extremely knowledgeable on the animals and showed great passion at his job. The park was huge; we spent hours driving in a mix of close and open vehicles. Accommodation was basic yet comfortable for a 1 night stay(we went in winter however so it got really cold at night!). I would recommend the pilanesburg tour. We managed to see 4/5 of the big five.. all except the buffalo!! :)"
