Experience Zambia like never before. Enjoy the abundant wildlife, the beautiful scenery, and plenty of varieties and densities of animals. See the breathtaking and stunning sights in a conservational land. By traveling to these areas you are helping to patron the conservation of the wildlife. Do fun activities all day and when nighttime comes you can relax in luxurious lodges surrounded by incredible sights.
On your first three nights, you will stay at the Kanyemba Lodge. The lodge strives to provide a haven where you can enjoy the beauty and activities on offer in the Lower Zambezi. Catering for a maximum of 20 guests, the lodge comprises six stone and thatch “rondavel” chalets, each with their own large private deck overlooking the Zambezi River, full en-suite bathroom and walk-in wardrobe.
You will spend your last two nights at the Mfuwe Lodge. This award-winning safari lodge set in the most prolific game area of the South Luangwa is the perfect place to enjoy excellent game viewing, recharge your batteries, or to start and finish your journey to the bush camps.
You will arrive by flight in Lusaka, Zambia. There you will be greeted at the airport and will be transferred to Lower Zambezi. You will stay at Kanyemba Lodge in an en-suite luxury chalet where you will be served snacks and dinner. Depending on what time your flight arrives, you can do a sunset boat cruise on this day. Lusaka to Kanyemba Lodge is a three to four-hour drive.
You will have two activities a day for two days, a walking safari, followed by game drives, boat cruise, or canoeing.
In the walking safari, you can get up close and personal with nature in a way that you just cannot manage from a vehicle. You will depart the lodge in the early morning for a quick boat trip across to Kanyemba Island, where you will be taken on a game walk with one of our experienced guides.
The focus of the walks will be on vegetation, tracks, and other signs of life on the island. Insects and birds are a feature, though it is not uncommon to see herbivores such as bushbuck, waterbuck, and even elephant while on foot. You will complete your walk at the Kanyemba Island Bush Camp ready for a transfer back to the lodge around 9:30 a.m.
Guests must be fit enough to complete a walk of around three hours and 30 minutes and to move quickly if required. The ground is somewhat uneven, so sturdy shoes are best. Natural colored clothing only, no white or bright colors, and a hat is recommended.
Game drives start early morning. You will depart for a boat ride of approximately one and 30 minutes downstream to the base camp of Conservation Lower Zambezi (CLZ), where you will transfer to the open top game drive vehicle.
The full day is spent in the National Park, exploring loops to find four of the big five like elephants, buffaloes, lion, and leopards, as well as a variety of herbivores and birds. After a picnic lunch, you will wind your way back towards Conversation Lower Zambezi to transfer back to the boat for the two-hour trip back to the lodge, so you will be arriving around 6:00 p.m.
Note that due to vegetation within the national park, the vehicle has no shelter from the sun, so a long-sleeved shirt is recommended especially for those with a fair complexion. Neutral colored clothing is required.
Depart the lodge early morning for canoeing safari. You will be taken upstream from the lodge to commence your canoe trip down the Zambezi. As you disembark the boat, you will be given a full safety briefing by your guide, and then it is time to hop into the canoes for an amazingly tranquil journey downstream.
Your canoe trip will take you through channels often not accessible by motorized craft, and with only the sounds of paddles dipping in and out of the water, approaching birds and other wildlife is much easier. As the sun rises and the animals wake there is nothing more magical than drifting silently through one of nature’s marvels.
Canoe safaris are the perfect way to enjoy the tranquility of the river while experiencing the Zambezi's unique emotional power. Canoes provide a totally different approach to Zambian fauna and you will be able to silently get close to the animals drinking along the river or quietly soaking in the shallow waters. With a stop to stretch your legs and have a drink halfway through the trip, you will arrive back at the lodge at around 9.30 a.m. No prior paddling experience is necessary, though guests should be able to swim. Comfortable and neutral colored clothing, hat, and sunscreen are recommended.
For those wanting to experience the bush from the water, without the effort of paddling a canoe, boat cruises are offered on the Zambezi River. Morning cruises depart the lodge around early morning or a little later if required, but the early morning light is by far the best to spot and photograph bird and animal life as it starts on its daily journey. You will be back at the lodge around 9:30 a.m.
Sunset cruises depart the lodge at 4:00 p.m. and will take you up and downstream to view the late afternoon activities of the abundant wildlife that call the Zambezi their home. From bushbuck and waterbuck on the lookout for predators to elephant coming down to the water to drink and play, hippos wallowing and crocodiles cruising the river, even lions sunning themselves on the banks of the river may be seen.
The Zambezi at sunset is truly an amazing and enchanting experience. You will arrive back at the lodge just after sunset, around 6:00 p.m to 6:30 p.m. depending on the time of year. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are included at your stay at an en suite luxury chalet in Kanyemba Lodge.
You will leave Lower Zambezi after breakfast and you will be transferred to Lusaka in a flight connection to Mfuwe in the afternoon. After your arrival in Mfuwe, you will be transferred to the lodge, so you can settle in and relax. There will be an evening game drive if you arrive early. Your dinner and breakfast will be provided at your overnight stay at Mfuwe Lodge.
There will be an early wake-up call at 5:30 a.m. for a morning game drive. Then you will return to camp for brunch after four hours of game drive. You can relax after brunch. At 4 p.m. you will go for an evening game drive for another four hours game experience. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner will be served at your overnight stay at the Mfuwe Lodge.
After breakfast at the Mfuwe Lodge, you will be transferred to the airport for your flight to Lusaka where you can connect for your flight back home. Depending on the times of flight, you can do a morning game drive there.
This safari holiday will take place in various locations in Zambia. You will get to see the Zambezi River, the South Luangwa National Park, and the Kanyemba Island.
Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are included in the price.
Please book your flight to arrive at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport (LUN). Transfer from and to the airport is included. Dens Safari Tour and Transfers will pick you up from the airport.
