The place where the lodge is located is ideal to combine adventure with rest, since it is located in the middle of the primary jungle surrounded by nature and wildlife which mix to make your stay an unforgettable moment. Our main purpose in our lodge is to make you feel like family so you can enjoy the benefits of nature in a family environment.
Thanks to the excellent location of our lodge, located 260 km south of Iquitos in one of the most beautiful and protected areas of the Peruvian Amazon, near the Pacaya Samiria National Park and the Yarapa communal reserve, around the lodge you can find 173 mammals of different species, such as monkeys, sloths, pink and gray dolphins, reptiles such as alligators and boas, including the queen of the Amazon, the anaconda, more than 600 species of birds, including macaws, toucans and the harpy eagle, in addition to different amphibians, including poison dart frogs, tree frogs and more than 400 species of fish (catalogued) and innumerable species of plants such as lianas, mushrooms and trees with medicinal and traditional uses.
From Iquitos, you will be picked up at any hotel in Iquitos. Pick-up at the Iquitos Airport is possible with prior coordination with the client.
To get to the Curuhuinsi Lodge (located three hours from Iquitos) we first go to Nauta by land transportation and then we board a typical boat from the area that will take you directly to the lodge.
Before arriving at the lodge, you will make a brief stop where the three most important rivers of Peru meet: the Amazon River, the Marañón River, and the Ucayali River. Here you can see the pink dolphins, they are mainly in the Amazon river, so you will have many chances to see them!
Arrive at the lodge and enjoy lunch. Then, take a canoe ride along the river and around the lakes to familiarize ourselves with the jungle and the area where the lodge is located and to search for birds, monkeys, sloths, and other wildlife.
You will go out to visit a native community afterward. Here you will have the opportunity to learn and observe their way of life on the banks of the Amazon River. You will appreciate their homes, types of construction, schools, and churches, and will interact with the inhabitants, and learn about their farming and fishing techniques. You will observe their customs and traditions, understanding their natural and austere lifestyle.
People in the jungle are very cheerful and welcoming, they like to share their culture with foreigners, especially children, who like to play sports a lot. Many families work making crafts and then sell them. Here you will have the opportunity to buy typical handicrafts from the Peruvian Amazon!
Then you will meet Pablito, the lazy bear. Pablito grew up in the community from a very young age, and since then he has never wanted to leave. Sometimes he can get lost in the jungle for a few days, but he always returns to the community. He is very affectionate with people, so you can carry him and play with him!
Finally enjoy the sunset in the jungle from the boat.
Continue your journey deeper into the jungle to observe alligators. The guide will take you to remote places to find these wild animals. At nightfall, you find a clear sky, appreciate the splendid brightness of the moon, as well as the stars and constellations, and with luck, you can even see a shooting star!

Finally, you will take advantage of the walk to collect some typical foods of the jungle, such as chonta and mushrooms, which you will eat for lunch. After lunch, take a break in the hammocks.
After a moment of relaxation, you will go out to see and swim in the Amazon River with the river dolphins. You will go by boat to the Amazon River, where you can bathe and enjoy its fresh water. It is very likely that the pink dolphins are present very close to you, however, you must keep your distance without touching them since they are wild animals, let them get close to you, not the other way around!
Then you make a brief stop on the banks of a tributary river to get a mud treatment. Wallow in the mud to be able to absorb the nutrients and minerals that it possesses. Also, you will enjoy other healing benefits: free the body from stress and anxiety, relax the muscles, hydrate the skin and eliminate toxins.
Finally, you will end the day watching the beautiful sunset of the Peruvian Amazon from the boat.
Later, you will take out your flashlights and walk through the jungle at night in search of anacondas, tarantulas, scorpions, snakes, and giant frogs! You will witness the enchanting transformation of the jungle into a dark environment, where nature takes on a different character and nocturnal creatures come to the fore. You will be able to differentiate a completely different range of fauna compared to what is usually found during the day, listening to the magical sounds of insects, birds, felines, and owls.
