Lodge Safari in Peru

This is Curassow Amazon Lodge's basic Amazon jungle tour. Travelers will go to the Curassow Amazon Lodge, located at the buffer area of the Tamshiyacu Tahuayo Communal Reserve. This short program is ideal for travelers that have not much time in Iquitos and wish to observe some wildlife in their natural habitat. Activities included in this jungle tour are hiking in the jungle to observe birds, primates, and medicinal plants, canoe rides, viewing of river dolphins, both grey and pink, and much more.

Accommodation for the jungle tour is at the Curassow Amazon Lodge, with private rooms (bungalows), each one with bathroom, shower, and 24-hour running water. Electricity is provided by solar panels to charge batteries.

The lodge, built with local materials and in harmony with the natural environment, has 10 private cabins (bungalows), all with their own bathroom with shower, toilet, cold water all day, mosquito netting on doors and windows, closet, and a private terrace with hammock and beautiful views of the river or the jungle, as well as electricity (220 volts) generated by solar panels for lighting, recharging batteries, and small devices such as laptop, cell phone, and CPAP machines for sleep apnea.


Curassow Amazon Lodge’s excursions are aimed at observing animals in their natural habitat. They guarantee that travelers will observe wildlife due to the fact that the lodge and operations are deep in the jungle. Easiest animals you will observe during the jungle tours are sloths, monkey species, birds, caimans / alligators, pink and gray river dolphins, piranhas, tarantulas and other spider species, snakes, among others. Also, you will be able to find useful and medicinal plants.

Day 1: Iquitos - Curassow Amazon Lodge

The transfer from the airport or hotel to the port in Iquitos city will be at 9:30 a.m. Navigation along the Amazon River lasts for three and a half hours. Arrive at Curassow Amazon Lodge. Check into your private bungalow and have lunch. You will have an expedition by boat to observe birds and the hotzin or shansho (Opisthocomus hoazin), a prehistoric-looking bird. After this, you will have dinner. Excursions by boat to observe caimans, nocturnal birds, mammals, etc. are planned in the evening.

Day 2: Curassow Amazon Lodge - Iquitos

An exploration by boat and a jungle trekking to observe medicinal plants are planned for today. You will have breakfast on the boat. Today you can swim near the dolphins in the Amazon River. You will also observe iguanas and the Victoria Regia water lily, the biggest aquatic plant in the world. After this, you will have lunch, followed by Amazon River navigation back to Iquitos city. Arrival in Iquitos is scheduled at 5:00 p.m. You will be transferred from the port to the airport or your hotel.

The lodge is located in the vicinity of the Tamshiyacu Tahuayo Communal Regional Conservation Area (ACRCTT), three hours or 100 kilometers (62 miles) south of the city of Iquitos by fast boat. The ACRCTT protects one of the Amazonian ecosystems with the greatest diversity of mammals, primates, amphibians, reptiles, birds, and trees of the world according to the Chicago's Field Museum of the USA, which means that Curassow Amazon Lodge can guarantee the observation of wildlife during their excursions.

During your stay, you will be provided with breakfast, lunch, and dinner, as well as bottled water, coffee, tea, milk, and fruit 24 hours a day. Special diets like vegetarian or celiac are available, if requested before booking. At Curassow Lodge the chef prepares a wide array of local Peruvian and international cuisine, fresh fruit, and many made-to-order snacks you may want in the afternoon or evening.

Typical meals include rice or potatoes, chicken, beef, pork, or fish, as well as fresh fruits, vegetables, and salads. You’ll have the opportunity to sample unique ingredients from the rain forest, such as fresh bananas, heart of palm, ginger, plantains, and yucca.

How to get there

Arrival by boat

It is suggested that the traveler arrives in Iquitos before 8:30 a.m. and takes his departure flight after 7:00 p.m. or the following day; however, your departure and return times may be adapted to the traveler's flight itinerary. Please inform Curassow Amazon Lodge in advance. In case of not being able to adapt, you will have to hire a private boat with an additional cost of 280 USD per section.

Cancellation Policy

  • A reservation requires a deposit of 20% of the total price.
  • The deposit is non-refundable, if the booking is cancelled.
  • The rest of the payment should be paid 1 days before arrival.
