Accommodation

You will be provided three nights of accommodation at the Cumaceba Lodge. The construction of the lodge is typical, and every room is designed with a palm roof and wooden structure, similar to the houses of the early Amazonian settlers, built without disturbing the jungle.

There is a reception house, hammocks for relaxing, dining room, and private bungalows, all of which are protected with mosquito nets. Each cabin has its own toilet and shower. In the evening, solar energy based lamps are used to illuminate every room.

Program

Day 1: Cumaceba Lodge

Departure is at 09:00 a.m. After meeting at the reception of Coronel FAP Francisco Secada Vignetta International Airport (IQT), you will have a short city tour. You will be transferred to the private harbor to take the speed boat to visit the floating thatch roof houses in the district of Belen, located on the edge of the Itaya river.

This is available from November to July. You will then continue traveling down the Amazon River to arrive at the ecological reserve Cumaceba Lodge. The reception will be with a welcome drink made of a typical fruit, accommodation in the bungalows with private bathrooms, typical lunch, a long walk in the primary forest to know and learn about medicinal plants and the wildlife of the reserve.

The timetable throughout the tour will start from Cumaceba Lodge every day at 09:00 a.m. and the return to Iquitos will be right after lunch. Estimated arrival will be at 03:45 pm. Dinner and overnight stay will be in Cumaceba Lodge.

Day 2: Cumaceba Lodge and Yagua Indian

You will have an early morning jungle walk for bird watching to see the legendary Hoatzin-Shansho. After breakfast, you will visit the Yagua Indian Village, to see their typical clothing and hear their own dialect, see how they use the blowgun, typical dances, and you can also buy or trade their handy craft.

Typical self-service lunch will be served. You will visit a small zoo to see some local species of animals such as anacondas, sloths, turtles, and others. You will ride on the Amazon River to seek for the gray and pink dolphins. You will have a nocturnal lake excursion in canoes to hear rainforest typical sounds. Dinner and overnight in Cumaceba Lodge.

Day 3: Cumaceba Lodge and Paiches.

You will watch the sunrise at the edge of the river and have birdwatching at the Padre Isla town. After breakfast, you will go on a trip visiting a private conservation project of Arapaima gigas, the Paiche, the largest fresh-water fish in the Amazon River. You will have a short walk around the town to see the everyday life.

You will return to Cumaceba Lodge and then have a canoeing tour and some time for photos. Overnight stay will be in Cumaceba Lodge.

Day 4: Cumaceba Lodge, Lily Pad, and Iquitos.

You will have breakfast and then proceed on a canoe ride to see the Victoria Regia, the largest aquatic flower of the world. You will then return to the lodge and have a typical self-service lunch. Departure will be after lunch. You will return to Iquitos and then get transfer to your hotel or airport.

Location

This wildlife tour will be held in Cumaceba Lodge in Iquitos, Peru. Iquitos is one of the best nature travel destinations in the world including 100% ecological built jungle lodges on the Amazon River. This ecological private reserve is located 21 miles from Iquitos city at the shore of the majestic Amazon River. The transfer by speedboat takes approximately one hour down river.

Food

Daily breakfast, lunch, and dinner is included. Please let Cumaceba Amazonia Tours know about any restriction on your food and / or any health condition you may have to prevent and avoid complications in the jungle excursions. There is also a bar where you can try the local drinks, some of which are said to have aphrodisiac effects. There are also sodas, beer, wine, whisky, rum, Vodka, and more.
