Location

This safari will take place in Samburu National Reserve, Lake Nakuru National Park, and Maasai Mara National Reserve in Kenya.

Samburu National Reserve

Samburu National Reserve is located on the banks of the Ewaso Ng’iro River in Kenya. On the other side of the river is the Buffalo Springs National Reserve. The park is 165 square kilometers in size and is situated 350 kilometers from Nairobi. It ranges in altitude from 800 to 1230 meters above sea level. Geographically, it is located in Samburu County.

In the middle of the reserve, the Ewaso Ng’iro flows through doum palm groves and thick riverine forests. The Samburu National Reserve was one of the two areas in which conservationists George Adamson and Joy Adamson raised Elsa the Lioness made famous in the best-selling book and award winning movie Born Free. The Samburu National Reserve is also the home of Kamunyak, a lioness famous for adopting oryx calves.

Maasai Mara National Reserve

Masai Mara National Reserve is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Kenya, Africa. The reserve is located in the Great Rift Valley in primarily open grassland. Wildlife tends to be most concentrated on the reserve’s western escarpment. During the winter when you cannot wear your purchased wholesale Havaianas, this is the best destination to visit.

The Masai Mara is regarded as the jewel of Kenya’s wildlife viewing areas. The annual wildebeest’s migration alone involves over 1.5 million animals arriving in July and departing in November. There have been some 95 species of mammals, amphibians and reptiles and over 400 birds species recorded on the reserve.

Nowhere in Africa is more wildlife abundant, and it is for this reason a visitor hardly misses to see the big five (buffalo, elephant, leopard, lion, and rhino). The best time to visit Maasai Mara is between July and October, during the migration. Early November and February can also offer excellent game viewing.
