Upon your arrival at the airport, the team will be there to greet you and provide transportation to your city hotel, which will be either the Boma Inn Nairobi or a similar hotel. After your long flight, the team will explain what will happen next and answer any questions that you may have about your upcoming safari, which starts the following day.
Your arrangements are on a bed-and-breakfast basis, which is a suitable option for those arriving in Nairobi in the evening. However, if you arrive early, you can choose to relax at the hotel or take part in various city activities such as the Nairobi city tour, giraffe center tour, elephant orphanage tour, or visit the Karen Blixen before returning to the hotel in the late evening.
After savoring a delightful breakfast at The Ark, you'll depart for Aberdare, the base hotel, to join your amiable driver guide. From there, you'll journey north to Samburu National Reserve. En route, you'll pause at the equator for an intriguing demonstration and a quick restroom break before continuing on to Samburu, where a sumptuous lunch awaits.
In the afternoon, prepare for your inaugural game drive and bask in the enchanting wildlife of Samburu. As the sun sets, you'll return to the lodge.
Samburu's rugged and secluded ambiance sets it apart from other parks, offering a more intimate wildlife encounter. It is the exclusive habitat of unique species such as Grevy’s zebra and the reticulated giraffe. Despite the lengthy journey, the ever-changing landscapes and the prospect of encountering these rare animals will make it an adventure well-worth undertaking.
Samburu National Reserve is a gem in Kenya’s northern region, known for its arid landscapes and rare wildlife. This day, you’ll explore the unique reserve on morning and afternoon game drives. The Ewaso Nyiro River, which flows through Samburu, attracts a variety of animals, including elephants, crocodiles, and over 450 bird species.
The day’s activities will allow plenty of time to relax at your lodge or camp, and the lack of crowds in Samburu means that you’ll enjoy peaceful game viewing. It’s the perfect balance of adventure and relaxation in a truly wild setting.
After enjoying a relaxed breakfast, you'll drive south of Samburu to arrive at Serena Sweet Waters Camp in time for a delicious lunch. Afterward, take some time to explore the camp and its beautiful surroundings, including a waterhole next to the bar where animals come to drink the water and mudbath.
Then, it'll be time for an exciting afternoon game drive! You'll start with a visit to the chimpanzee sanctuary and then head out to explore the park, which is home to a fantastic variety of wildlife, including white and black rhinos, giraffes, gazelles, elephants, lions, cheetahs, and more.
Ol Pejeta is also known as the largest black rhino sanctuary in East Africa and the precious home of two of the world's last remaining northern white rhinos. It's also the only place in Kenya where you can see chimpanzees, as the sanctuary was established to rehabilitate animals rescued from the illegal wildlife trade.
After breakfast, you will take a scenic drive southwards to Lake Nakuru National Park, passing through the fertile highlands of Kenya where tea and coffee are grown. You will cross the equator again and arrive at the highlands of Nyahururu before reaching Lake Nakuru, where you will have lunch.
After checking in to your lodge, you will set out on an afternoon game drive in the park and return at sunset for an overnight stay.
Lake Nakuru is one of the most beautiful national parks in Kenya. It has rocky escarpments, patches of yellow-barked acacia forest, a waterfall, and is home to flamingos, black and white rhinos, lions, leopards, buffaloes, hippos, and the endangered Rothschild's giraffe.
The southern end of the lake is the best place to see wildlife. The forested area below the Rhinos Cliff is a favorite lion-spotting point where lionesses love to sleep in the trees, and leopards frequent the same area.
This day, after a leisurely breakfast, drive east of Nakuru to Lake Naivasha, a freshwater lake in Kenya outside the town of Naivasha, northwest of Nairobi. It is famous for its strong population of hippos, Maasai giraffes, wildebeests, and over 400 bird species in the forest surrounding the lake, making it the perfect destination for birders from all corners of the world.
On arrival after check-in, you will proceed to Lake Naivasha for a boat ride and a walking excursion at the Crescent Island game sanctuary.
Boat rides on Lake Naivasha are refreshing experiences that will take you on the breezy lake waters as you explore the diverse birdlife and wildlife on the lake and its surroundings. You will also have a brief nature walk on the island, which is a great opportunity to appreciate nature.
Return to the hotel for lunch. After lunch, proceed to Hell's Gate National Park for cycling and walking excursions. Return to the accommodation for dinner and an overnight stay.
After breakfast, you will drive through the Rift Valley floor to reach Masai Mara National Reserve. Upon arrival at the camp, you will have a delicious lunch. Later, you will go on your first game drive in this wildlife sanctuary, also known as the "Eighth Wonder of the Animal World."
During the game drive, you will spot the Big Five: lions, leopards, elephants, buffaloes, and rhinos. Return to the camp at sunset for dinner and overnight stay.
Kenya's Masai Mara National Reserve is one of the best places to observe wildlife. The reserve boasts an incredible variety of animals, including big cats such as lions, leopards, and cheetahs, as well as elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, wildebeests, zebras, hippos, hyenas, and impalas.
If you're a bird lover, you'll be thrilled to know that over 500 species of birds have been recorded in the reserve. You'll also enjoy the beautiful savannah landscapes, dotted with acacia trees. Be sure to bring your binoculars for an even closer look at the wildlife.
This is a full day dedicated to game viewing across the rich tree-studded grassland and rolling hills of the famous savanna grassland. The Mara is renowned for its great herds of plains game animals like leopards, cheetahs, lions, and other herbivores. You can find virtually every type of wildlife in Kenya there.
For lunch on this day, you'll have picnic lunch boxes in the savannah under a flat-top acacia tree while watching the animals grazing. You'll continue with the game-viewing en route to your camp and arrive late in the afternoon after thoroughly exploring this massive grassland savannah measuring 1,500 sqm.
You will have the option of booking a balloon ride on this day, which takes off early in the morning. After landing, the crew will help you out of the basket and escort you to a lovely setting for a champagne bush breakfast, which is a once-in-a-lifetime experience and worth the price. Later, you can join your driver guide at a location and proceed with your full-day game drive.
After breakfast, get ready for a long but visually stunning drive to the Isebania border post, separating Kenya and Tanzania. Once you complete the border immigration process, you will switch vehicles and meet your Tanzanian driver / guide.
They will welcome you and take you to the vast Serengeti National Park in Tanzania, which means "endless plains." Lunch will be served en route.
You will arrive at the camp late in the afternoon. Keep an eye out for the millions of animals that call this place their home during the drive. This night, you will have an authentic African safari experience. The lodge is situated within the national park, right in the middle of all the animal action, and is an unfenced site.
Once you arrive, your driver / guide and the camp manager will provide you with a comprehensive safety briefing. Please note that the drive from Masai Mara to Serengeti, including the border crossing, can take up to eight to nine hours. Alternatively, Camptrek Safaris can arrange a three-hour air transfer.
Wake up to another beautiful day in the Serengeti. Start your morning with an early game drive to see the animals in their most active state. After the game drive, head back to the lodge to enjoy a relaxed breakfast and lunch.
During the hottest part of the day, take a break to relax in the camp by reading your favorite book, writing about your safari experience in your journal, or simply listening to music while observing the birds. Don't worry, the animals will also be taking a break from the heat.
Later in the afternoon, go for another game drive through the park. After the drive, return to the lodge for dinner and another night under the beautiful Serengeti sky.
Please note that there is an option for an early hot-air balloon ride. If you are interested, please ask the tour manager before booking the trip.
You will have an early breakfast at 06:00 and then go for a final game drive through the Serengeti as you exit the park. After this, you will depart for Ngorongoro with picnic lunches. Once you arrive, you will descend into the crater floor for a half-day crater tour.
The crater is approximately 20 km /12 miles wide and 600 m / 2,000 ft deep, and there are only two roads that connect the crater rim with the crater floor, one for driving down and another for driving up. It takes about 45 minutes to descend to the crater floor from the top of the caldera.
The floor is home to a rich and highly concentrated wildlife population, with around 20,000 mammals of varying sizes living there, including approximately 20 black rhinoceros. This makes the crater the best place in Tanzania to see these animals.
The animals in that area are less wary of humans and vehicles, making it easier to observe them up close. You can watch them as they roam the lakes, rivers, woodlands, and hills.
You will head to Lake Eyasi, a vast seasonal soda lake that has been home to the Hadzabe people for over 10,000 years, and it is one of the few places in Africa where traditional life is still practiced without modern influence.
This day's visit to the Hadzabe lands will offer you an incredible insight into their ancient culture, and you will have the chance to learn about their way of life.
You can meet members of the community and participate in daily activities such as hunting, gathering, and traditional dances, and also learn about their unique 'click' language, which is believed to be one of the oldest languages still in use today. You will then proceed to your lodge in Tarangire National Park, arriving in good time for lunch.
After lunch, you will embark on your first game drive to explore this beautiful park, which is considered the second park with the highest concentration of wildlife in Tanzania after Serengeti. You will return to the lodge for your dinner and overnight stay.
Depart at 07:30 and head towards the border with Kenya via Arusha, leaving Tarangire National Park behind. Once you reach the border, proceed to the immigration office, which is a one-stop border post.
After completing the clearance process, you will meet your Kenyan driver guide, who will take you to Amboseli National Park, located approximately two hours away from the border. You will arrive in time for lunch.
At 16:00, go on your first afternoon game drive, exploring the acacia woodland, freshwater swamps, scrub brush, and open plains in search of wildlife. Part of the park comprises a dried-up lake bed, where mirages rise from the shimmering heat. Return to the lodge at sunset for dinner and an overnight stay.
You can opt to end your safari on this day and head on to Zanzibar Islands for a beach extension. Talk with Camptrek Safaris' travel consultants when booking so they can arrange a seamless experience.
Leave the camp after breakfast, carrying your packed lunch to be enjoyed in the wild. Spend the whole day exploring the marshlands and swamps of Amboseli, which are fed by subterranean water channels. Water is abundant throughout the year and so is the pasture. Elephants and various other herbivores are found there.
You will retreat to the lodge late in the afternoon after a long exploration of this 392 sq km. park.
You will also have the option of starting the day with an early morning game drive to search for animals when they're at their most active, then return to the lodge for a relaxed breakfast and lunch.
Spend the hottest part of the day relaxing in camp reading your favorite book, writing on your journal about the safari, or just listening to your favorite music while observing the birds. Don't stress, as the animals will be doing the same. Then, head off again in the afternoon at (16:00) for another drive through the park. Return to the lodge at sunset for dinner and overnight.
After enjoying a leisurely breakfast, you will be transported back to Nairobi. From there, you will have the option to have lunch or dinner at the Carnivore Restaurant. Afterwards, you will be dropped off at your hotel in Nairobi or at the airport, marking the end of your safari.
You will need to coordinate the departure time from Amboseli National Park with your driver guide, depending on the time of your departing flight.
If your flight departure is scheduled for later in the day, Camptrek Safaris can arrange a visit to the Giraffe Center, which is home to a crew of the endangered Rothschild giraffes. Alternatively, you may visit the David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage, a rescue and rehabilitation center for orphaned baby elephants.
It is open to the public for one hour between 11:00 - 12:00, when you can watch them during mud baths and feeding. You will then be dropped off at the airport in the evening.
