C4 Photo Safaris introduces you the ultimate river safari of a lifetime. This safari focuses on getting the best waterbird photographs possible. It will be timed to coincide with the breeding season of the Carmine bee-eater as well as the African skimmer. You will have full access to these and many other beautiful and brilliant colored birds over the duration of 9 days. It is exceptionally rich in diversity, color, and activity for you to point your lens at!
The maximum participants in the group is 10.
Pangolin Voyager Houseboat is spread over 3 levels affording plenty of space for up to 10 guests at one time. On the lower level, the houseboat has 5 well-appointed en-suite cabins with double or twin beds available depending on the required configuration. The beds are fitted with the finest linen and mattresses.
The cabins have built-in cupboards as well as a cooling fan, and the windows are fitted with a mosquito net to allow the gentle breeze from the river. The middle level is occupied by the lounge and dining area along with a deck at the rear which accommodates barbecue tools.
The comfortable lounge area is stocked with referenced books and binoculars which are yours to use as you drift between your private mooring points. The upper-level hosts a viewing deck equipped with table, chairs, and sun loungers perfect for sun tanning in-between activities and for witnessing the majestic African sunsets.
Luxurious and tranquil, Xaro Lodge is situated on the banks of the Okavango River where the wild side of Africa still exists. Here, you will find yourself awakened by the sounds of eagles. Watch skimmers tear the smooth surface of the river while you enjoy some of the most magnificent sunsets Africa has to offer. The lodge is facilitated with en-suite bathrooms, glass-sliding door, private patio, library, lounge, and an open-air dining area.
You will arrive at the Kasane Airport (BBK) where you will then be transferred directly to the Pangolin Voyager Houseboat, your accommodation for 4 nights. The Pangolin Voyager Houseboat will journey along the Chobe and Zambezi River throughout the year, hosting guests in absolute luxury and comfort as you drift gently through one of the richest game environments in Africa. Chobe attracts wildlife and birds from very far afield and no more so than in the dry season when this photo safari takes place.
Photographing on the Chobe River is a wonderful experience. The houseboat you'll be staying in uses 2 motors, one in the front and the main one at the back. It keeps you rock steady when idling, allowing you to focus on photographing your subject perfectly.
After breakfast, you will be transferred back to Kasane Airport (BBK) for your charter flight to Shakawe Airport (SWX). You will then be transferred to Xaro Lodge for your 4-night stay. Xaro Lodge is a must-visit if you are a birding enthusiast. Besides the prolific number of bird species in the Shakawe region of Botswana, species that are spotted regularly include the Pel’s fishing owl, skimmers, carmines, egrets, herons, kingfisher, boubous, and so on.
After the last breakfast, you will be transferred to Shakawe Airport (SWX) for your flight to Maun Airport (MUB). This will be the end of the safari.
Photography has been a hobby for Andre at his young age. The results of his pursuits with a camera from such a young age have developed into a unique photographic style. His specialty is using his excellent natural history and bird knowledge to predict movements of an animal and position in place so you can get your images in time.
Isak is one of the top photographers in Africa. The benefit of his engineering training is his flawless technical knowledge of camera systems and the post processing software that accompanies them. His highest accolade arrived in 2013 when he was awarded as the winner of the BBC Wildlife Photographer of the Year in the Bird Behaviour category, which undoubtedly proved that he's one of the world's best wildlife photographers.
There is no place like Chobe Riverfront in Africa. At first glance, the large expanse of water that is the Chobe River flows languidly and peacefully through several islands and continue on towards the Zambezi River, offering a peaceful scene. On the islands and along the banks, thrive some of the most prolific animal and bird life in Africa. Elephants and hippos are very common in the water while buffalo herds in large numbers are common in front of the riverbanks.
The waters in the main channel and the smaller channels are extremely calm. There is never a swell or strong currents that may tip the boat or cause you to become uneasy. It is extremely stable and seasickness is a non-issue. In addition to Chobe and Zambezi River, you will also visit Okavango River for your extensive photo opportunity.
You will be served daily meals. The breakfast usually consists of cereals and a hot English breakfast. Lunch is usually light with a variety of salads and a meat option. Dinner will be mostly traditional English-style affairs with a soup starter and freshly baked camp bread. The main course will usually be roast meat with vegetables. Lastly, the dessert is usually a simple affair consisting of fruit or baked pudding. There will be a comprehensive selection of alcoholic and soft drinks for you to enjoy throughout the day from the bar on Pangolin Voyager Houseboat.
Please arrive at Kasane Airport (BBK) in Kasane, Botswana. C4 Photo Safaris' staff will pick you up from the airport. The pick-up is included in the price.
