Bundox Explorer Camp
Bundox Explorer Camp is a lesson in simplicity and its four double tents take their inspiration from a bygone era when less was more. Each has twin beds with sprung bases and comfortable divan-style mattresses, dressed in cool cotton sheets and lightweight duvets. Additional blankets are kept in a wooden kist for the cooler months and crisp winter nights. The camp is off-grid with a solar system that provides power in each tent, enabling you to recharge your devices and camera batteries as needed. A fan offers the perfect cooling breeze whenever you need it.
The en-suite bathrooms include a flushing toilet, a single vanity unit with a basin, and a shower with running cold water. Hot water is available on demand and is run through a bucket shower system that is both effective and wonderfully sustainable. Mosquito flaps allow the tents to remain secure but airy, providing good ventilation in the warmer months. There is insect repellant and bug spray in each room and packing and hanging space for clothing. Outside is a small deck with comfortable chairs and views of the camp.

Greetings! Step into the awe-inspiring beauty of South Africa. Upon landing at Hoedspruit’s Eastgate Airport, your guide will warmly welcome you and accompany you to an open safari vehicle for a scenic 45-minute transfer to Bundox Explorer Camp in the Olifants West Private Nature Reserve, an esteemed Big Five reserve nestled within the Greater Kruger National Park. Following entry formalities at the reserve’s Olifants West gate, enjoy a 20-minute drive to the camp, savoring game viewing along the way.
The camp’s hospitable team eagerly anticipates your arrival, and after a refreshing welcome drink, they will guide you to your tent for a comfortable settling. A delectable light lunch awaits in the dining area before you embark on an afternoon or evening game drive, unveiling the breathtaking landscapes of this photographer’s haven. Pause sundowners in the bush before returning to camp. Unwind with drinks around the crackling fire, culminating in a delightful three-course dinner.
Day 2
Before the break of dawn, the invigorating aroma of freshly brewed coffee rouses you from your slumber, marking the commencement of an adventurous early morning game drive. Gather in the dining area for a piping hot cup of coffee before setting out into the African wilderness, witnessing the sun’s ascent over the untamed landscape. Along the journey, take a moment for coffee and snacks before traveling alongside the Olifants River.
There, relish a delightful breakfast on the banks of the Olifants River before returning to camp for leisure time on the viewing deck. Day 3

Return to camp for a delightful breakfast before your transfer to Bundox River Lodge in Balule North. Nestled on the banks of the Olifants River, offering breathtaking views, you will arrive in time to settle into your beautiful tent and savor lunch on the shaded deck overlooking the river. Take a refreshing swim or indulge in an afternoon siesta before venturing out on an afternoon or evening game drive.
The late afternoon along the river is a breathtaking spectacle as sunlight filters through tall shade trees - perfect spots for leopards to lounge until the sun dips below the horizon. Day 4
Begin your day with an early morning game drive, traversing the captivating landscapes surrounding Bundox River Lodge. Return to camp for a gratifying breakfast and relish some leisure time before lunch. In the afternoon, set out on a delightful cruise along the Olifants River, gaining a unique perspective of the wilderness. Relax as the boat glides along, providing incredible views, and observe wildlife approaching the river for drinking and bathing. Following the cruise, engage in a leisurely game drive back to camp, arriving in time for another splendid dinner on the deck.
Day 5
Embrace the early morning tranquillity just before the sunrises, as the gentle light breaks on the horizon and the sounds of the dawn chorus fill the riparian trees around Bundox River Lodge. Savour coffee and rusks on the deck before embarking on a morning game drive, tracking the signs and traces that reveal the night’s activities. Perhaps you will be fortunate enough to spot a lion or leopard or come across buffalo as they start to stir.
Pause for a coffee break along the way, providing an opportunity to stretch your legs before returning to camp for a leisurely breakfast overlooking the river. After breakfast, take your time to freshen up and pack before being picked up for your 90-minute transfer to Bundox Safari Lodge. Upon arrival, relish in a delightful lunch and treat yourself to a rejuvenating afternoon massage at the exquisite Spa@ Bundox, nestled among the tall shade trees that envelop the lodge.
Spend the remainder of the afternoon unwinding, whether it is by one of the two swimming pools or in one of the many secluded spots in this beautiful lodge.
