On the first night of your safari, you will be staying at Masumbo Lodge in Iringa.
Nights two and three will be spent at Uluti Forest Campsite in Iringa.
Accommodations will be available at Masumbo Camp in Iringa for the fourth night.
Get some relaxation for nights five, six, and seven at Udekwa Juu Special Campsite.
Have a well-earned rest at Hondo Hondo Lodge in Kilombero Valley for nights eight, nine, and ten.
Relax in the cozy Gairo Lodge for nights 11 and 12.
A good rest awaits you at Emmau Hill Lodge near Amani Nature Reserve for nights 13, 14, and 15.
Nights 16 and 17 will be spent at Mullas Lodge in Lushoto.
Recharge for your next adventure at Elephant Motel on nights 18 and 19.
Accommodations for the last night of the safari will be available at Green Mountain Lodge in Arusha.
On day one, arrive at Iringa Airport (IRI) and you will picked-up by your Brown Parrot Safaris guides. Transfer and spend your overnight stay at Masumbo Lodge in Iringa.
After an early breakfast, you will drive through the beautiful Iringa mountains, bird watching en-route. On arrival, you will meet the village chairman and you will stop to have lunch and offload your camping gears. You will do a registration while the porters are arranging the loads.
When you finish, you will start hiking to the forest for about two hours while birding en-route. You will reach the camp to find it already set. Enjoy a nice shower, have dinner, and after that, you will do your bird shortlist. You will stay overnight at Uluti Forest Camp.
Uluti Forest is one of the best forests for bird watching on that part of Tanzania. The usual birds that are seen there are the Dappled Mountain robin, spot-throat, African tailorbird, White-winged apalis, Pale-breasted illaponsis, Iringa and Sharpe's akalat, Swynnerton's robin, Roufous-winged and Mountain sunbird, and many other forest birds. You will stay overnight at Uluti Forest Campsite.
After breakfast, you will take off and drive through a couple of hills with beautiful landscapes while birding en-route. You will have lunch in the middle of nowhere and you will reach Iringa town later in the day. You will stay overnight at Masumbo Camp.
On day five, you will wake up in the early morning, have breakfast, and you will leave for Udekwa which is about a three-hour drive. When you get there, there will be a registration as usual. In the meantime, the porters will be loading the camping gears and go ahead of you to set the camp and the forest TV waiting for you when you get back.
The hike to the camp is almost two hours and you will find everything ready. Get a hot shower, have dinner, and shortlist the birds that you see that day. You will stay overnight at Udekwa Juu Special Campsite.
After breakfast, you will hike more to the interior part of the forest. Birds to be seen there include the Uduzungwa Forest partridge, Moreau's sunbird, Kipengere seedeater, and many other forest birds. You will stay overnight at Udekwa Juu Special Campsite.
On day seven, you will have another full-time in nature surrounded by beautiful and attractive birds singing nice songs for you. You can take photos as much as you can. You will look for more species like Sharpe's akalat, sunbirds, African grass owl, and many more. You will stay overnight at Udekwa Juu Special Campsite.
In the early morning after breakfast, you will close your camp and go down to the village to officially sign out, meet your driver, and load the four-by-four jeep. Then, you will depart to Kilombero. It will be quite a long day with about six hours of driving but there will be lots of beautiful things to see on the way.
You will also have a lot of stops for bird watching and taking photos. You will arrive there later in the day. You will stay overnight at Hondo Hondo Lodge.
You will continue with your bird watching safari on the lowland side. That side is absolutely amazing. Your camera must be fully charged for you to take enough photos of birds and landscapes. The birds to see down there are the Winifridae, Uluguru greenbul, Loveridge's sunbird, and many more. You will stay overnight at Hondo Hondo Lodge.
It is another beautiful day. Brown Parrot Safaris will be there for you to meet your expectations and the highlights of the day are the Uluguru bushshrike, Bertram's weaver, and many other species. You will stay overnight at Hondo Hondo Lodge.
Early in the morning after breakfast, you will load your truck and depart to Gairo for two nights, bird watching en-route. You will arrive there later in the day. You will stay overnight at Gairo Lodge.
After breakfast, you will drive up to the mountains for bird watching while the beauty of the landscapes are calling out for you to take photos! The birds you will write there are the Rubeho akalat, Rebeho warblers, Masked weaver, and Kenrick’s starlings. You will stay overnight at Gairo Lodge.
On day 13, you will drive down, catching up with the tarmac road all the way to Lushoto. A few hours before reaching the lodge, you will be welcomed by trees about 30 meters tall, full of oxygen with wonderful and amazing songs from different birds. You will stay overnight at Emmau Hill Lodge.
As most of the forest birds are active in early hours, so you can walk around and come back for breakfast or you can choose to have breakfast, leave out, and come back later in the day. The birds to be seen are the Usambara eagle-owl, Green-headed oriole, and many more. You will stay overnight at Emmau Hill Lodge.
You will continue enjoying bird watching in Amani’s paradise. There will be lots of bush silence and you can explore more areas for more birds like the Usambara Hyliota, Long-billed tailorbird, and Kretschmer's long bill. You will stay overnight at Emmau Hill Lodge.
On day 16, you will transfer to Lushoto for two nights. The place is astonishing with very brilliant landscapes. Viewing Mkomazi within a distance with the good binoculars, you can spot wild animals. You will stay overnight at Mullas Lodge.
You will explore Lushoto to its very beauty and the bird species key there are the Steppe buzzard, Gymnogene, Kenrick's stalling, Gordon Bleu, Usambara weaver, Brown-breasted barbet, Hartlaub's turaco, White-chested alethe, African hobby, Eastern Double-collared sunbird, and Usambara akalat. You will stay overnight at Mullas Lodge.
After breakfast, you will depart to a new place called Upare. After about a seven-hour drive, you will reach the place at 05:00 or 06:00 p.m. Get a nice hot shower, have dinner, and you will do the list that you have been seeing for days. You will stay overnight at the Elephant Motel.
You are coming close to finishing the program. The highlights of Upare are the Pare white eye, Black-fronted bushrike, Bar-tailed drongo, Cinnamon-branken warbler, and many other beautiful birds. You will stay overnight at the Elephant Motel.
Early in the morning, you will leave for Nyumba ya Mungu. The birds to watch there are the Brown parrot, Green-tinker bird, lovebirds, Speckled mousebird, Black Smith, plovers, Fiscal shrike, go away birds, Crested vulturines, and Wooded vultures. Then, you will drive to Arusha. You will stay overnight at Green Mountain Lodge.
On day 21, you will have a free and easy day in Arusha where you can visit Brown Parrot Safaris projects like the Safiri Kijani which means tree-planting nurseries and the Enyorata women group. Later, you will drive to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO).
This safari will take place in Iringa, Uluti Forest, Udekwa Forest, Kilombero, Gairo, Amani Nature Reserve, Lushoto, Upare, and Arusha.
During this safari, breakfast, lunch, and dinner will be served daily. You will also be provided with one liter of mineral water per day.
Iringa Airport (Nduli Airport)
Please book your flight to arrive at Iringa Airport (IRI). Transfer from the airport is included as well as transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) on the last day. Brown Parrot Safaris will pick you up from the airport.
